Our system of higher education is data rich, but information poor. Unbeknownst to most people, students and families are missing key information when trying to choose which college to attend and policymakers lack the data necessary to provide insight into a complete picture of higher education outcomes when making decisions about student supports and funding.
As but one example, only first-time full-time students are counted in graduation rates. That misses more than half of today’s college enrollees including returning adult students, those attending part-time while working, and many others.
