- For the launch of my channel I've decided to demonstrate how to test and properly adjust the Throttle Position Sensor on a series 4 Mazda RX-7.
Pin at ECU for the TPS is 2G. Pinout located on page 4A-30 for N/A cars, and page 4B-33 for Turbo cars in the Factory Service Manual in the Control Unit section.
FSM is available for view/download @ www.foxed.ca

This is the best resource I’ve found about tps, thank you!!🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for actually showing the process and explaining things thoroughly. I don't usually leave many comments on youtube videos but setting the TPS properly on my FC has been more of a pain than id like to admit. Every video and thread ive read on it sucks and gives little valuable info. Now my FC's tps is on the money and no more 3800rpm hesitation!
You should make a video show casing the adjustment of the entire t2 throttle body and explaining it's systems
Hi,my name is nick I live in boston.how much would it cost for you to come do a tps adjustment on my car? Thanks
When measuring my un plugged TPS it reads 1.4ohm at closed and reads up to 4.30 and then stops even tho the throttle has more room to open. Is this okay? (Multi meter set at 20k ohms)
You can do this without warm up the engine before? At the Factory Service Manual they said that it should be warmed. Page 4A-33 for N/A.
As stated in the video, it definitely needs to be warmed to Normal Operating Temperature so that the thermowax is not acting in the throttle body while you're adjusting it.
I have an 87 Rx7 and would love to see more or know more tips on keeping my Rx-7 running. I'm from NYC and it's pretty cold here. Also, do you premix your rotary?
I do premix as I have removed my metering oil pump. Even when I was utilizing the factory oil injection, however, I still premixed a little less than half what I do without it. I am originally from Vermont, so I would run a lighter engine oil in the winter and 20w50 in the warmer months.
@@TheSpinCycle7 Here's a good question for you. I noticed in your video you have two gauge pods and I am guessing you have them both for boost and A/F ratio. The main question, I can start my vehicle and I notice she can warm-up with no issues. However, when I drive when coming to a stop or I notice on my RPM gauge she does idle low and stalls on me. (Bummer) Could it be that my spark plugs maybe bad? I am not running any pods and was told I should.
This could be a variety of things. First, you need to guarantee your baseline.. start by making sure you have no vacuum leaks. Then verify your timing, set the TPS, idle speed and mixture. If there is still a problem, meter the BAC valve. If that's all good, I'd check compression. Of course other things could also be at play here... fuel pressure, an injector issue, poor spark, etc. It's hard to say, hence the laundry list of go-to's. Let me know!
Hey mate nice video, Do you know anyspare TPS sensors for sale? ive been looking everywhere and no one sells them, Cheers
atkins rotary?
I have an issue. I did everything you said and run for like a minute and then goes down from 1 volt.
The engine must be warmed fully to operating temperature.
I turned a screw and now my car won’t go passed 1500 rpm without leaning out can you help me
Verify your timing is set properly.
So tps unpluggged and push in dial all the way like throttle is closed. Reads.67. Shouldn't thr range be no lower the 1. To 6.
Do you have Facebook?
@@TheSpinCycle7 yes whats your name
@@13bHappy hit me up through the Facebook page facebook.com/SpinCycleEngaged/
Adjusted with ohms got it within range. Went to adjust with voltage and im at 3.3 volts on my tps. If i try and go down to 1 volt the screw will come out. Any ideas?
What is the resistance range when you ohm it out? If you're having to adjust it so far that the screw is maxing out either way, the sensor is likely kaput.
@@TheSpinCycle7 thanks a lot for getting back to me man. Okay so it was under 1. When i ohm tested it. So adjusted screw until i hit 1. And the range dosent go past 6. So i said that's good but then did the jumper wire and plugged sensor back in and gave power it was way out of wack
@@13bHappy measuring the resistance is to check that the sensor is within spec. With the engine warmed up to operating temperature and the initial set coupler shorted is when you're looking for one volt at idle. If this is not possible under these conditions, then either your sensor is donezo, or the mechanism for the TPS has been tampered with.
@@TheSpinCycle7 i do not have any emissions. And throttle body has been simplified. I still have the adj screws. Can i have power running to it or does the car have to be running
@@13bHappy the engine doesn't *have* to be running.. but the engine does have to be warmed up due to the thermowax that I'm assuming you still have. I find it best to do this with the engine running because the thermowax can cool down pretty quick and start acting on the throttlebody again skewing the voltage reading. Just be careful.
Put a Pontiac 455 in that , make that blue monster REALLY GO.
Mines ded… no readings at all🥲
