    This reminds me of shop class when I was a kid. You learned how and why to measure things. But, this is how to work it out if you don’t have a tape. Made you think outside the box(no pun intended). And the key to every job. Keeping your blades clean and SHARP!

    Hi James ... interesting build ... I have those same plastic inserts with the same problems and have been thinking of a re-fit for years ... your vid is the stimulus! One change: I will likely site the silverware section to the back since silverware lies north/south and would extend mid-drawer ... those clever side cutouts will allow easy retrieval without over extending the drawer ... the one or two east/west catch-alls will end up filling with the various odd gizmos one accumulates after watching UA-cam ads ... if at the front, those bins will be more accessible and stuff won't be able to hide ... cheers and stay well ... I would not have thought of the spacers at the front of the drawers.

    Very nice. If I make one, it would be removable though.

    Hey James, a tip for you. For projects like those where you don't even know how to start measuring things it's a good idea to make it out of foam board first. There are many product names... Poster board, depron... Depron your can get in many different thicknesses, including 1/4" I believe. And you can glue it with hot glue or CA glue (if it's foam safe). 😉
    And it's a pretty cheap thing. You know? You can even use a chisel with depron, for example. And once you're happy with the project... It's just the matter of measuring and cutting the wood. 😊
    I use those things to make rc airplanes... You know? It's a fantastic material and pretty forgiving. 😊

      I truly prefer not to measure it all. It's better to just make marks off of reality. The more you measure the more you introduce irregularities and inaccuracies. As you have to transfer it from reality to tape measure to the piece you're working on.

    I need to make this for 2 drawers. Could you provide me with the name of your finish? finish did you use? I love working with hand tools and I’m just starting to make projects. Thanks for sharing your processes and positivity!

      You may want to take a look at the how to version of the video. On that channel I do a lot more talking about what I am using and why. The finish is. Orange oil wax from feed and wax.

    I love the dividers! Great job. For why he video, can I suggest you tell us which tools you used? Looks like a carcass saw (pretty sure a Veritas, though your tool page shows different than that), but I wasn’t sure. Also, can you tell us where to get that holdfast? (I checked your tool page and it is definitely not the same as we see there.). Thanks!

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I usually talk through the tools on the how to channel. Every time there is a video on here there is a how to version on the other one. The hold fast are made by black bear forge. My tool page is suggested tools as many of mine you can not buy new.ost of mine are anteques.

    I just made one for our kitchen. I may need to modify it based on your techniques.
    Do you have a problem with the butter knives sliding under the organizer? My drawer bottom flexes enough for the blades to get caught.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  3 роки тому +1

      I had a problem with that on the last one but on this one it has not been an issue. I think the tolerances on this one are just a little bit tighter.

    Is there a reference for why the ring on drill bit shafts?

    • @shookings
      @shookings 3 роки тому +1

      Keep the ring in the same place on the drill shaft, you can make sure it's level. Then you just have to sight for left/right

      Yeah. It's a problem with the cheap drawers from the big box store. That's on my list for someday. Lol

    Now you need better drawer slides, that can actually hold the weight.

    You don't have a router plane that narrow, do you?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  3 роки тому +1

      My narrowest iron is a quarter inch. And unfortunately these are slightly thinner than a quart.

  • @z4zuse
    @z4zuse 3 роки тому

    The number of narrow and shallow dados would allow for a temporary router using that narrow chisel and a block of wood. Paul Seller’s poor man router.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  3 роки тому +1

      That's very true. However I absolutely love the skill of free hand chisel work. It's part of the fun.
