Dude YEA!!WIPER...WIPER .....WIPER...BEST FISH OUTSIDE THE OCEAN. I LIVE IN MIDDLE KANSAS .........AND I HAD DAY WHERE 42 OF THOSE 10 TO 12 HAWGS WERE ROLLING. NEVER EVER EVER WILL I FORGET IT! LIVE SHAD....BAM
I agree, wipers are my favorite freshwater fish. You guys have some nice lakes for catching them over there in Kansas. It's a blast to get them on live bait for sure! Thanks
I keep catching wipers when I'm trying to catch catfish on freshly netted shad in my local lake that's 5 miles away. Not complaining, they fight so strong, there's no mistake when the drag starts ripping. You really have this spot dialed in, congrats on a banner day.
They will definitely take advantage of live bait or cut bait when they get the chance. It makes for a great bycatch while catfishing! They are the one fish that lets you know in the first seconds of the fight what they are. This spot has been really good to me the last few years. Thank you!
Sure dig the honest way you fish. I grew up fishing the upper Potomac, Shenandoah, New river and much more, used to wade and fish for miles. Every day was good and still is. Catching up on your vids I've not seen. Keep the rods stiff and the line tight!!! Thanks for the trouble you go to.
Thanks, I appreciate all the support. It makes the hard work on these videos seem worth it. I've never fished the areas you mentioned but it would be nice to try someday. Tight lines to you as well!
Those flukes are perfect for white bass and wipers. I'm going to continue to use them in the future at the spillway for sure. Thanks for sending me some!
I'm glad you could feel the wiper fever all the way in SA. If you lived closer it would be fun to hit a spillway session with you. Hooking up with a wiper is like nothing else in freshwater fishing (for a US angler at least). These fish are very healthy for sure - some might call them very fat! There is an abundance of shad (baitfish) and they don't know how to stop eating them.
It's nice only living 10 min from this spot but it just means that my mind is always distracted by the thought that "hey maybe I should go make a few casts real quick". Thanks for watching!
love to see such good fishing...i was just thinking, if i was close enough, i could be yall net boy...can carry the net to just watch yall fishing, lol
Colorado sounds fun. High mtn trout fishing is one of my favorite things to do. I lived in Boulder for 5 years and had a blast fishing tiny streams in the high country. I need to target some smallmouth soon. I need some topwater action in my life.
Thanks, this spillway has been on fire for wipers this year. I've seen so many double digits caught that it is almost getting routine. I don't want to take it for granted because I know this is unusual and it won't last.
You should try using a mimic minnow thats what I usually catch white bass on i have to down grade my bait size tho because minesota white bass all they eat are minnow
I would first do some research on the rivers and lakes that have wipers and white bass in your state or surrounding areas. The DNR usually documents their stocking programs pretty well. Also, a lot of online fishing message boards are available where people are talking about where the fish are biting near you. Even searching wiper fishing in your state and looking at google images will lead you to places where big ones are being caught. Once you find a river that has white bass and wipers I would target any spillways you can find in the spring and fall periods. In the lakes I like to target them early morning or late evening. They will chase shad on the surface and you can use topwater or spoons/plastic swimbaits to target them. This is fun all summer long on some lakes.
He custom made this color for me. I think he has chartreuse on the website but not the white and chartreuse combo. You might be able to inquire on his website to see if he can make you some or if he is planning on making that color in the future.
Awesoooooome!!!!!!!!!!i have a question what catagorie do you use for fishing videos you know how you upload vids in youtube studio what catagory do you put for you vids??!
I don't put it in any specific category. I do put tags on like wiper fishing, white bass fishing, etc. which helps the video be placed in the search algorithm.
@@BackroadsAngling Ok thank you, Cause I caught two 25 inchers and did not have a scale. I fish on a lake were there are a ton of alewife and the stripers are eatin them like crazy. Its a blast we wade out like chest high.
@@TrentDaughertyYT Sounds like a good time! I find that wipers vary more than just about any other fish when trying to convert length to wt. They can be short and round or long and skinny or somewhere in between. A 25 inch fish could be 11-12 lbs if it is super fat and round or 6-7 lbs if it is long and lean. Most likely it is somewhere in the middle.
If you would like to pick up some flukes you can find them here: www.engineeringhooksets.com/

Everyone should be lucky enough to do something that keeps them from sleeping! Great job and thanks for sharing
Spot on. Well said! I've got plenty of time to sleep when the fish aren't biting!! Thanks as usual for watching!

Thats pretty cool
This is very contagious. Getting the fever to. Great fishing, wish I was Mike to go with you. Fish looks very healthy indeed.

What a day! Those wipers are such a rush. Great video. Thanks for sharing!
It was a memorable one for sure! I agree, every time you hook a wiper the adrenaline starts flowing! Thank you!
Nice! Very healthy. Wipers are the best!
Thanks! Healthy fat fish for sure! Plenty of shad for them to eat and they won't stop until they've eaten every last one of them.
Boy, if i had a spillway that held giant monster stripers like that I wouldn't sleep much either. Fantastic fish, dude!
It's nice only living 10 min from this spot but it just means that my mind is always distracted by the thought that "hey maybe I should go make a few casts real quick". Thanks for watching!
Need a Fishing partner .
If we can connected go Fishing I can show you some Spot also .
love to see such good fishing...i was just thinking, if i was close enough, i could be yall net boy...can carry the net to just watch yall fishing, lol
Thanks it was a good day! A net can really come in handy at this spillway. I might have landed the first big fish if I would have brought one.
I have wanted to get over there but have not had time. Heading to colorado in couple days.. great video I have been after smallies lately

Please where is this spillway I would love to catch Wiper for the first time.
Wipers on steroids. Nice fish for sure!🤗
Indeed! Thanks for watching!
Its funny how Al was like "Take it home!" And you were like nope biggens go back cuz they dont taste good. I can tell he was like "really?"
I think it was hard for Al to watch me release a fish like that. He definitely thought it should be eaten.
@@BackroadsAngling Ya, lol 😂
You've been on a tear dude and this trip tops them all so far

I see some people using mimic minnows. A white PulsR will always be my #1 at this spot. The fish just lose their mind for it.
Never fish for big white bass or stripper before. Any suggestion on where to fish for them? Thank you.

Which spillways way please!!!
is this red rock dam?
Nice video. What size lb line are you using for these huge white bass
20 lb braid with 20 lb fluoro leader

Sports?
Awesome, what time of year was this?
Thanks, spring this year.
What’s a wiper??? Striped bass? Or a large white bass?
Cross of a White Bass ("WH") and Striper ("IPER") making it a WIPER.
@@Chrissers2010ahhh I see.
Do you know about how long that 7.3 lb wiper was? Also great video loved it!
Probably 22-24 inches. I didn't measure any of them. The 12lber probably wasn't much longer than 25 inches - it was just super fat and round.
