      I agree, wipers are my favorite freshwater fish. You guys have some nice lakes for catching them over there in Kansas. It's a blast to get them on live bait for sure! Thanks

    I keep catching wipers when I'm trying to catch catfish on freshly netted shad in my local lake that's 5 miles away. Not complaining, they fight so strong, there's no mistake when the drag starts ripping. You really have this spot dialed in, congrats on a banner day.

      They will definitely take advantage of live bait or cut bait when they get the chance. It makes for a great bycatch while catfishing! They are the one fish that lets you know in the first seconds of the fight what they are. This spot has been really good to me the last few years. Thank you!

    Sure dig the honest way you fish. I grew up fishing the upper Potomac, Shenandoah, New river and much more, used to wade and fish for miles. Every day was good and still is. Catching up on your vids I've not seen. Keep the rods stiff and the line tight!!! Thanks for the trouble you go to.

      Thanks, I appreciate all the support. It makes the hard work on these videos seem worth it. I've never fished the areas you mentioned but it would be nice to try someday. Tight lines to you as well!

      I'm glad you could feel the wiper fever all the way in SA. If you lived closer it would be fun to hit a spillway session with you. Hooking up with a wiper is like nothing else in freshwater fishing (for a US angler at least). These fish are very healthy for sure - some might call them very fat! There is an abundance of shad (baitfish) and they don't know how to stop eating them.

      Colorado sounds fun. High mtn trout fishing is one of my favorite things to do. I lived in Boulder for 5 years and had a blast fishing tiny streams in the high country. I need to target some smallmouth soon. I need some topwater action in my life.

    You should try using a mimic minnow thats what I usually catch white bass on i have to down grade my bait size tho because minesota white bass all they eat are minnow

    • @BackroadsAngling
      @BackroadsAngling  Рік тому

      I see some people using mimic minnows. A white PulsR will always be my #1 at this spot. The fish just lose their mind for it.

    Never fish for big white bass or stripper before. Any suggestion on where to fish for them? Thank you.

    • @BackroadsAngling
      @BackroadsAngling  Рік тому +1

      I would first do some research on the rivers and lakes that have wipers and white bass in your state or surrounding areas. The DNR usually documents their stocking programs pretty well. Also, a lot of online fishing message boards are available where people are talking about where the fish are biting near you. Even searching wiper fishing in your state and looking at google images will lead you to places where big ones are being caught. Once you find a river that has white bass and wipers I would target any spillways you can find in the spring and fall periods. In the lakes I like to target them early morning or late evening. They will chase shad on the surface and you can use topwater or spoons/plastic swimbaits to target them. This is fun all summer long on some lakes.

      He custom made this color for me. I think he has chartreuse on the website but not the white and chartreuse combo. You might be able to inquire on his website to see if he can make you some or if he is planning on making that color in the future.

      @BackroadsAngling  Рік тому

      @TrentDaughertyYT Рік тому

      @@BackroadsAngling Ok thank you, Cause I caught two 25 inchers and did not have a scale. I fish on a lake were there are a ton of alewife and the stripers are eatin them like crazy. Its a blast we wade out like chest high.

    • @BackroadsAngling
      @BackroadsAngling  Рік тому

      @@TrentDaughertyYT Sounds like a good time! I find that wipers vary more than just about any other fish when trying to convert length to wt. They can be short and round or long and skinny or somewhere in between. A 25 inch fish could be 11-12 lbs if it is super fat and round or 6-7 lbs if it is long and lean. Most likely it is somewhere in the middle.
