    • The Chateau Diaries 04...
In todays video we tour the chateau rooms hidden from public view, and have a supernatural encounter.
Help me to keep making videos and restoring this building by visiting my patreon page.
    www.patreon.co...
My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle.
We film and edit everything ourselves.
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.

Mrs Patmore must definitely have had some ( pretty good)Education at the primary in the Victorian era prior to become a cook as she knew the Nile is a river and it was far away. 👍 😁
I bet not many of her contemporary servant fellows would have caught what she meant to say....anyway 🧐( I wonder how many of us would know where the Nile is🤔)

Please don't be shocked, and don't laugh either. But when I was at boarding school in the UK, we had washstands by our beds, with white enamel bowls, large jugs, and enamel lidded pails underneath. Each floor had a (bigger) arrangement, similar to those in your chateau, with taps and stone sink, from which each morning we collected hot water in our jugs for washing, and then took the slop pails back, to empty them!! None of us, at the time, thought it was at all strange! It was a very nice school and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I feel quite nostalgic seeing the rooms in your chateau. What you think is antique, would possibly have been in use, till not that long ago.

Funny you mention this. Since Stephanie explained how it works, I've just muted the adverts and let them play through while attending to other things so she can earn a little from them. Seeing my wife and I have watched her entire series twice, and some of her episodes multiple times, I'd like to think we are helping.

I had no idea this was how it worked. I just assumed they'd get the revenue even if we skipped the ads. Thank you for letting me know about this, it's important that we support those who make the content we get to enjoy!

I.s.s.y I didn't know either until Stephanie explained it. They shouldn't be ashamed to let us know how we can contribute. There are 22 year olds buying houses from revenue off "for members only." They should be ashamed.

On another note, it is so lovely so see people who have the financial means to live in a place like this, but still appreciate every bit of beauty inside and outside of it 👌 I would guess that a place like this and the items they acquired to fill it were originally made to show status and wealth.
What a delight that this family sees the beauty for beauty's sake and takes the time to restore and preserve it! Bravo!

Little bit of trivia, it Victorian times in some caves with Stalactites ( the ones that go down ) they used to put molds Under them and they would fill up with lime scale and after a while they would demold, cameos and objects that they would mount and sell. You can still find small 'scenes' and cameos made like this ,,,, getting away from the point, ANOTHER great video Michael thank you .
