Micheal, please, please wear a mask when sanding. All of the old dust, varnish and any other thing that may have been adhered to the wood for centuries could very well affect your lungs in the future.
As someone who cleaned out her grandparent’s old Victorian home & sanded & everything else without a mask and has had severe asthma, which I never had before, for the last ten years since- YES!!! It’s no joke and can definitely happen to you. I was only in my thirties then- severe asthma sucks. I am seriously horrified watching you work without one. It’s SO important!
Great tip! Would it still be as important to wear a mask even if the vacuum cleaner is connected to the sanding machine? (A few videos ago he showed how to connect the two machines...)
I have heard that in 'upperclass' families they would let Children sit on backless chairs to teach them not to slouch. So that might be a theory on why your chair doesn't have a back.
That rain storm was so beautiful I could almost smell the ground and all of that gorgeous greenery! How lucky you all are and us for getting to enjoy it with you! Thank you.
Michael, have you ever thought about doing 6 scenes for notecards? You could do watercolors of the chapel, front/rear of chateau, cedar of Lebanon, circle of copper beech, and roses along a wall! A set of 2 of each scene in the set to be sold to guests & online! I'd love to have a set! Of course, you would have to ship worldwide...it could be done nicely!
I could watch the vignettes of the chateau during a storm for hours... I find them so relaxing. The opening sequence to music was also wonderful! I can't wait to see your chateau painting - I will find somewhere special for it to hang when it arrives. Your videos manage to make life in a chateau seem so normal and homey - thank you for sharing.
I have trouble sleeping and often play the sounds of rain to help me out. I would sleep beautifully at the chateau with a window open listening to a rain storm.
I love Michael's views of nature -- I will tell you that I paint landscape myself and I look hungrily at these trees, not just the single grand ones but the forest with all the varied branching outs and many colours of green. The chapel in the rain I could play over and over. That's what I liked in your first video, "These are my favourite trees" YES.
Absolutely Beautiful. This is my favorite video of this series so far. The colors of morning and the rain is such a treasure, I could almost smell the freshness of the rain falling on the leaves.
i tell you just the sight of those trees and the rain with the sound of the storm, on a continuous loop for say 30 to 45 minutes that would be a soothing video. Love everything you are doing! Keep up the awesome work.

Your videos are like that too but we can tell you put so much extra effort into planning them out. Just a different approach you know!
Stephanie's channel is such a fun-filled, natural yet romantic and feminine, whimsical kind of Chateau life. Michael's a regal and very solid yet poetic kind of channel as how I see it,
I see this channel as being more DIY and Stephanie's being more about partying, having fun and day to day and much less about restoration of the chateau. But Michael is much cuter than Stephanie and I would bet many more subscribers are female.

What I love best about your vlogs is the atmosphere you conjure, through beautiful photography and music that completely matches the mood in each sequence. Thank you, Michael 💕
I wonder if the chair with no back would’ve been for the large skirts/bustles the women would wear? You’d need more room I think. Beautiful video Michael, look forward to seeing them!
I am currently watching a show called "If walls could talk-The history of the home" from Lucy Worsley British historian (youtube) and she says that most people sat on stools and that the only person with a chair back would be the estate owner or VIP in the room. I really have never seen very old stools, so that is surprising.
I think it was the kind of chair you use in winter, sitting in front of the chimney to keep your back warm (at least I've seen something like this in a castle and it was the purpose)...
The chair is a corset chair. women would sit facing forward and wrap their arms around the uprights and the maid would be able to apply more leverage by putting her knee in the womans' back and pulling on the corset cords to tighten them
I don't know why I enjoyed watching that storm so much. I had surgery on Wednesday and have been stressed out and that just relaxed me so much. Thanks.

The serenity of the grounds with the piano playing was magic! I was waiting for Mr Darcy to appear on the grounds. Or at least Michael 😍 I bet that was Michael's music too. Dinner looked yummy! Thank you for giving us joy with your videos 🥰🇦🇺
The table is like new. Have you refinished it? I use a rug when I move large pieces, by myself. Rugs do slide across smooth flooring, but you need those round disks to move across rugs. I haven't tackled the upright piano. I am 73 and would like to see 74 and older. My mother just turned 97 in March. So, I might, too, if I use common sense and get a friend to help. Have you ever investigated the double wall at lalande, where the stone staircase has no intricate railing? Sometimes, renovators who want the modern look, cover up what they consider ugly. And build a double.wall to.cover up the staircase rail. The clouds are gorgeous, they make the chateau look even more majestic This vlog is just wonderful, even the rain can't dampen the spirit s The fluttering flag helps the magic real. You could leave the car or an old coach and four in the picture. It would be magical (Stephanie's favorite word). The food you prepared was perfect. My mother taught me to eat meat well done. One time out to dinner, I said medium rare, instead of medium well. I never went back to hard again.....e
I'm glad you're using ear protection now when you're sanding... Still ought to be wearing a mask to keep that dust from your lungs - That old varnish could have just about anything in it, not to mention the tiny splinters you're inhaling. It's looking magnificent - Absolutely glowing! Be careful about making the treads too shiny - They can become dangerously slippery, and there's a toddler in the house. :-)
The footage of the rainstorm with the lovely music was masterfully done, and so soothing! Sigh. Thank you! And the meal looked done to perfection. It was nice to also see a couple of Billy’s projects, this time. Well done, Billy! You brothers, your beautiful sister in law, and darling Ernest have a very good thing going, there. The backless chair would be for a king or the lord of the chateau. You can tell because it has arms. Only the lords of the houses and kings of castles were allowed to sit in them unless they allowed you to, which would be a great honor. Most people dont know, but medieval chairs in general didnt have backs on them, the arms depended the status of the person sitting in them. That's a cool find to have for real! This whole series is just...wow! As someone who studies medieval history, this is just awesome to watch!
The gardens are so impeccably kept, I think I could just sit out there and contemplate the beauty of those magnificent trees! The dining room does look stunning, great idea to change it, both rooms look great. You are doing a fab job renovating the chateau
The storm was perfect....wishing I was there in person...... in the land of my ancestors. Someday I hope to go..... On another note....I am keeping track of all your " English" sayings....like "I am going to lay the table"......."Have you gone mad".......and a bit "knackard"...LOL I love it! Oh, and I have English ancestors as well. I think I was born too late..... Boise Idaho
I'd join a high tier patrion for access to a sleeping/ambient soundtrack of a storm and rain at the chateau with Michael playing piano in the background. I mean, its perfection X)
Woah i absolutely love the views of the scenery with the music so relaxing especially with the sound of the rain, it somehow felt nostalgic to me. Thank you ! I really appreciate the time and effort you put into theses videos.

Thank you for the quiet piece of the landscape and storm-though I loved EVERY part of this vlog post! It thrills me that you and your family, Stephanie and hers, and others are saving these structures with all that means, with love at the heart of your efforts. By the way, you are SO incredibly talented in so many ways! I’ve never made Yorkshire Pudding but now I’m determined to try!!

Michael, You are so talented ❗️ Your ability to film the beautiful surroundings is amazing ❗️ I L❤️VE the visual sights/sounds of the Chateau, as it changes. It calms me completely. You are amazing.❤️
The chateau is so beautiful! You have a very large lawn, to cut down a bit on moving grass you could swap the grass for meadow plants, there are seed mixes for a lot of soil types. Plus you'd do a lot for biodiversity. You also have the space to plant more trees, imagine being self sufficient with pears, chestnuts, apples, hazelnuts and so on! Really lovely chateau and thank you for showing us so much.
Binge watched your videos...congrats and good luck with the rest of your restoration. We took on a similar labour of love 17 years ago in the remote wilderness of Canada transforming an old fishing camp into a modern holiday lodge. Still lots of work to do but the place has turned out beautiful. We have to fly everything in or have it come by rail and haul it down a trail. We make our own electricity, etc. We are literally a half hour float plane flight from the nearest town. Even in the wilderness we are under lockdown and not sure what kind of season we will have. Lake is still iced over. Thanks for sharing and all the best to you.
Micheal, watching your channel inspired me to seek out other Chateau content, so I started watching Escape to the Chateau DIY and who did I see in the theme song but you and Billy and Gwen! I was blown away 😂anyway needless to say I'm obsessed with Chateaus now and still loving your channel. Keep up the good work!
The grass around the chapel would be a really nice place for a formal rose garden. You could edge the whole thing with boxwoods and inside them create formal beds of roses that you enter an arch way to get to. There could be one on either side of the chapel. You could look up old french gardening designs that match the period. The nice thing about doing it near the chapel is that it would actually look to scale with that building and would be so romantic. A row of lavender Infront of the box hanging on to the gravel would be nice too ☺️
Thank you for adding that storm footage. That was beautiful with the scenery. Made me a bit emotional with the music. Such a magical experience and location. You are so blessed

Moving the two rooms around was perfect. Well done Billy. Genius!! The stairs look fantastic, which varnish did you use? It's so nice.
BeckyLambers He shows the type of varnish in an earlier episode. Sorry can’t remember the name!
This may be one of my favorites!! Just a lovely day with Michael and family!🥰🥰
So fun to watch them progress in their camera work at the same time that they’re making progress on the house.
Your editing like with the music & the rain is why I think so many people love your channel so much!
I love that room as the dining room! So much brighter
Woah i absolutely love the views of the scenery with the music so relaxing especially with the sound of the rain, it somehow felt nostalgic to me. Thank you ! I really appreciate the time and effort you put into theses videos.
Oh the scenery, the smell of rain, the purity of rain just is simply healing, then you have the music, thank you so much!!! Scenes of nature are priceless.
Thank you for the quiet piece of the landscape and storm-though I loved EVERY part of this vlog post! It’s difficult to express what history means to me, and by history I include historical architecture. I LOVE old buildings which is in part why I live in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It thrills me that you and your family, Stephanie and hers, and others are saving these structures with all that means, with love at the heart of your efforts. By the way, you are SO incredibly talented in so many ways! I’ve never made Yorkshire Pudding but now I’m determined to try!!
I do love your video and I am please that you are do way you do. Fabulous............i am going to be 67 yrs young and what will happens makes me feel great after i see your videos...........take great care of yourself.......i am from Canada, Vancouver BC...........that is a way from France......
Michael,
You are so talented ❗️
Your ability to film the beautiful surroundings is amazing ❗️
I L❤️VE the visual sights/sounds of the Chateau, as it changes.
It calms me completely.
You are amazing.❤️
Peggy Vick wow that’s the most effort I’ve seen someone put in a comment 😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Before this I never knew that the exclamation mark emoji existed, you are truly legendary ❗️haha I used it‼️
The chateau is so beautiful!
What a treat this series is...thank you and love you Michael...and you are easy on the eyes.More More
WOW. I feel like I just had a very magical experience. I fell under the chateau spell.
Chapel Pouring rain scene was so beautiful and emotional ❤️.
The room swap is perfection!!! Holy wow!
A man that can cook! I’m impressed Michael.
Always inspiring Michael. I to loved the thunderstorm at the chateau. Its in such a beautiful setting. And yes! Dinner please.
