- This is a how to for converting your air ride on a 2001 to 2006 Lexus LS430. Factory air ride is great when its new, but when it comes time to repair or replace them, it can become extremely costly. This is an economical way of converting the air suspension to a standard coil spring and strut.

You already did the conversion kit right? Haha what kit did you use?
Just wanted to update and let you know I successfully got rid of the stock air ride and installed BC coilovers on my LS430 thanks to your vid! Had to deal with some seized bolts on the struts and a busted locking wheel nut, but was able to do it all in a couple hours with the walkthrough! Much appreciated, y’all!

Hi Dave. Could please send me a link to the website where I can find those coilovers. Here in Europe is difficult to find anything like this.
Great video. Thank you. I’ll need this once the bags go. But for now...208k and still strong
Thanks and thank you for watching✌
311k miles and still strong 😏
194,000 still air strong. In fact according to Lexus manual when they fail you’ll get message across dash.
Good video thanks. It's possible to keep the AFS working though, leave the two fuses alone in the cabin and instead pull the one larger fuse in the engine bay fuse box marked air sus (40A I think it was). AFS will still work then, as long as you've left the height sensors in each wheel well. Worked on my 01-03 model, AFS still does its calibration sweep on startup and works great. 👍
Ayye y’all I got 2001 Lexus ls 430 I neeed new rear right Cv axle assembly I keep ording wrong one dealership want 900 is ls 430 nd 400 axle the same need help tryna go to work

Thanks for this...I'm looking at buying one of these Ultra luxury LS403's and was worried about the cost to replace these. Looks like I can do it myself with this fantastic video. Thanks for taking the time to video, edit and upload this, excellent job!!
Thank you so much for watching.🙏
I’d contact previous owner and or local Lexus/Toyota shops to see if other work was done, when. No point changing out whole system if it’s already been fixed.
Good video. I did this myself about three years ago and the ride was just as good as air. Not a difficult job at all, and I agree with just removing the one fuse from the engine bay, it's all that's needed. My main suggestion is avoid Strutmasters, their customer service is hopeless.
What brand did you go with?
@@shoppure3396 I imported Strutmasters from the US.
But...the product was good!
@@peegee9931did you have the issue where the front looks like it sits way higher than the rear?
@@TRDChampion
To be honest the whole car sat higher than before. Strutmaster did say it would "settle" but it didn't really. The LS430 always sits lower at the rear even with the original air system. Just to reiterate, the Strutmaster products were good, their customer service isn't! 5 years or so later the struts are still fine.
Awesome stuff! Been looking to install some BC coils on my 2001 LS430 myself and appreciate the level of detail y'all did for this vid. My rear air suspension valve is failing and dropping the rears, so might as well go all in and lower the whole car properly!
BC coilovers in my opinion are one of the best out there. We installed a set on our Subaru WRX and were surprised on how good they felt. The trick to those is to set the proper pre-load on the spring. Since your a luxury car, a not so aggressive pre-load would be perfect. Let us know how they turn out.✌
@@SleepRGarage Good call on the pre-load. Saw another video where someone popped BC's into the LS430 with the out of the box spring rate and it was super close to the wheel wells in the front. And for sure, I'll definitely update once they get in! Thanks again and take care. ^^

@@nolimitjrod2224 Apologies for the late reply! I just got back from vacation. So… I have them at 7 in the front, 12 in the rear. We have silly speed bumps out here in Sheffield and the rear loved to drop it like it’s hot when I initially had it at 7. the only thing I would suggest for the fronts, is make sure you tighten the bolts back for the upper control arm at ride height
I looked at the prices for the coilovers and I'm just shocked on affordable these are. Now I'm still deciding if I want to do these myself to save money or have a mechanic do it.
What did you end up doing
Nice video. Thank you for sharing.
I would suggest that you use a torque wrench to bolt down those nuts to Lexus specs and also use lock tight too.
I really appreciate the video walkthrough. Just wish a test drive was included at the end to see how it rides. Is the $1,200 option a little smoother?
Thanks for watching. I'm sure the more money you throw at it, the better the ride quality.
Hi thanks for the video, the struts in the description are different then the ones you installed in the video. Would you say the ones in the description are better ?
Hello, thanks for watching. I know that Maxpeedingrods had undergone an update with their products. I have noticed the quality us getting better. Whatever the have available under the description is probably better.

I just bought my 2004 LS430 from another private party here in Richmond BC Canada, upon inspection we found that the front right strut is leaking. So glad we found your video here anyways ours is custom luxury Pkg with regular suspension. Where should I get the struts parts? Lexus deals want $400 per side just the struts I think they are way overpriced. Thanks
Its totally up to you my friend, if you want to save money like we do, go to maxpeedingrods.com and buy the set through them. Coupon code "SRG" for 15% off.✌
And cutting down rear struts means it is NOT the correct size. You should buy one that sets in properly without any cutting. The part is no made correctly; I certainly won’t buy one with this flaw.
What do you mean cutting down the rear strut
@@daffyduckphd Hi there thanks for the reply I ended up buying KYB struts instead and just the struts keep the original springs and will update you with the result soon. Luckily I am able to find a ex lexus technician doing this at his own garage to save me $$ for the labor.
Awesome. Great to hear that
I would really like to see what the final ride height was for the LS430 once the suspension settled. I'm on the fence of either getting an aftermarket air sus or going this route. I have found a sweet spot (height wise) and if it were possible I'd like to match it with the coil/spring conversion. I've found said height setting to be good enough for my type of driving and to avoid scrapping the bumper when going up/down ramps.
How long do you thing an aftermarket air sus setup would last before the struts start failing? Same question but with OEM struts? I want to weigh out my options. Thanks.
Great job guys exactly what I needed
🙏 🙏
Great walk through. Thank you for posting. Just picked up an ‘02 UL. The front air shocks were replaced by Lexus for previous owner. The rear ones are leaking. Since I have two band new OEM airs on the front the decision is difficult to convert to everything to coilovers. No indies in NJ also makes it more or less a dealership visit $$$$$.
I totally understand, but appreciate the view. Please consider subscribing, it would help me out greatly 🙏
I had an LS430 with air suspension. It didn't leak and worked OK for ride height etc. I wasn't very impressed with the ride, it was bumpy and harsh, I would have preferred springs for comfort.

Seen some FCS on Rockauto and wondering if it's just a straight swap out. I didn't see any strut mounts on these new ones. Is it just pull out old and throw in new? Seems too easy! thx for any help
Can you do a tutorial on how to remove the license plate light housing to replace em with LEDs?? PLZZZZZZZZZZ
On the web site, it seems the one with heavy coils are for the rear and the one with less coils are for the front. I could be wrong.
i agree, can we get a update on that?
It is very detailed instructions, thank you.
Did you realy need to remove headlights leveling fuse? The headlights will be pointing low as I can see on my ls430 where the original owner removed height sensors and the fuse. Non ULs still have two height sensors on the driver side to. level lights.
Great educational video! I have a 2005 Lexus LS430 and I want to get some coilovers that will provide the same or similar luxurious ride that the car originally came with. I don't want to necessarily lower the car, I want the same height as originally came with. 2- in your experience is the car running good with these suspension

How did the ride comfort changed compared to airride?
Not to bad, obviously not as smooth, but new suspension always feels great. Thanks for watching 👍

Great video guys I was planning on taking my 2002 LS430 ULTRA LUXURY to do this swap to regular struts but I might do it myself the only concern was the rear seats too much electrics with the massage system do you recommend something I might look for that you forgot to mention??
No I mentioned it all, just be careful not to yank out the back seat cushions too far, the lower ones need a little force to get them out. You'll be fine. Thanks for watching.

@@SleepRGarage what brand were the coil struts? Do have link to them
@@rastamanl5517 yes sir, link is located in the description.
Hi, how was the ride comfort with these standard spring suspensions compared with factory air suspension ? (of course with dead air suspension, it can't be worse... but i know this brand of suspension and they are.... very low quality)
Great video. It’s too bad that we had to eliminate the AFS system off the car…. I love the AFS system…. Does it also affect the pre-collision system as well? I hope not.
No need to disable the AFS. Instead of removing the two fuses like in the video, I just removed the one large "air sus" fuse in the engine bay fuse box and left the two in the cabin installed. no warning lights, headlights still auto level on startup. Mines a pre-facelift, not sure if that makes any difference.
I’ll try that. Thank you Brotha.
@LS430 VIP - Do the shocks have to be a ‘coil over’? I wanted to replace mine with standard KYB’s, but I also want to lower it to one and a half inches on the front and 1 inch on the back using TIEN springs. Do you know if there’s Pro shops out there that sell these conversions instead of coil overs? I wish you were in the Los Angeles California area. I would love to pay you to do this for me.🤔
No they don't have to be coil over. You can use the kyb with a lowering spring, check the web, people use RS R springs, check for all the part numbers
thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching friend✌
I have same car still air suspension work great and the price 4 corner side used spare parts around 100 dollars in dubai
In the future if I face problems wiht air suspension are u advise me to eliminate or install it again with other ones
That is totally up to you. New parts are very expensive, but if it doesn't bother you and you want to ride on a cloud, stick with air ride. Thanks for watching.
I prefer to ride on a cloud of course but certainly not for $3,200-$4,000 plus labor.
I have a question , if we install the RSR super down springs over those struts, are you suppose to cut the bump stop in half of leave it as a whole ??? I have the ls430 on bags too, getting ready to install my new struts with the rsr super down springs
I would probably cut it low
I’ve replaced all 4 corners with Arnott air ride struts. The rears were replaced 2 years ago. The fronts yesterday as the driver side of car was bleeding down after driving. The fronts were bad regardless of bleed down issue ( oil seepage). Both the front and rear driver side affectively still bleeding down. Is the airline common to one side?
I have the same car and the rear goes up and down on it's own. But it mostly stays in the up position. Any suggestions?
So what is the purpose of putting coilovers instead of regular struts?
It would be more of a preference. I would guess some people would like the option of deciding the ride height and the sportier feel of coilovers rather than a factory model appearance.
How is the ride does it ride the same as factory
What about just replacing the rear, hear you can get them for $100 a piece from China. So rather than replace all four airbag towers, you just replace the two rear defective ones. I know people say they were out, I have a 2001 LS 430 everything is fantastic. I put 1200 pounds of marble tiles in the back suspension adjusted and levels the ride. . When I took the tile out the car was super high which I loved at the rear. I probably shouldn’t be doing things like this LOL.
Well you have to disable the air pump or else you will pumping are continuously to bags that are no longer there. Unless you can somehow plug the back lines, but I don't recommend that. Thanks for watching.
Sleep R Garage Oh I wasn’t clear sorry you misunderstood. You replace the rear air towers with new ones instead of removing all four. So you only had to pay for two, and I hear that you can buy those air bag towers replacement ones for Lexus from China at $100 apiece
@@MrMrremmington oh yes, sorry. Yeah you can do that. It does seem like all the wear and bad driving feeling does come from the rears more than the front.
Seriously curious why you separated the upper control arm. Couldn't you unbolt the top, and unbolt the single bolt on the bottom?
The new strut and spring set up can not be compressed enough by hand, needed the extra play. Thanks for watching
are you sure that you need to install that adapters to rear suspension?
I'm sure you don't need to, you would just need to clock the rear strut mount. It was already set to accept the upper isolators so we just went with it.
Where did you guys buy that 17mm 19mm extra long rachet with flex head at ? And how long is it ?
Lowes, its a Kobalt brand its like 24 inches
So you don't actually need a conversion kit to eliminate dash lights like the shop told me... I have an 02 Celsior, if I were to buy ls430 megan coilovers would the process be the same? Just pull those 2 fuses at the end?
Well the problem is one will disable the pump, and the other will disable the active lights. What light is on.

Does anyone know where I can buy just that spacer/absorber hardware that you guys remove and reinstall on the top of the rear struts? You talk about issue #2 or something where you had to cut the rear strut bolts down and install the oem spacer/absorber over the top of the rear aftermarket struts.
Its probably going to be a dealer item, have you checked. I'm not sure what the name of the part is called. I call it an isolator. I will check out the dealer source we use.
Not sure I couldn't find the part number. I see it coming with the whole airstrut assembly.
@@SleepRGarage I'll ask the dealer near me. I am just nervous I'll take the backs off and that part will be ruined. Thanks much!
I noticed the coil overs I bought had a top mount that didn’t require installation of their old hardware (the spacer damper cousin or whatever the technical name actually is), as your guy’s aftermarket struts. It must be whatever aftermarket brand one purchases. Another item I thought I’d note is that anyone doing this job probably needs an impact gun to remove the factory front strut bolt unless they are truly the Hulk... I tried with manual tools and that hurt hahahaha.
After putting the coil overs will the car be more high than factory?
Or the height will remain the same ?
After settling it stands at about a factory height. Like an avalon or camry
