Yeah, is a very common oversight for the home-gamer. Leads to pulsation and come backs at shops. I hope this was cleaned up off camera but seeing rust through rotor around the studs isn't a good sign.
Guys, when you change the rotors ALWAYS clean the rust from the hub, it should be super smooth. Put some antiseize too. If the hub is rusty the rotor could cause vibrations and weird things can happen
Could not agree any more. Additionally, in case of vibration problems worth to check the hubs running by a micrometer. Sometimes the hub has some wigle, ask Lexus about the tolerance. But if you have more than .05 - .08mm than definitely worth to check further. Anyway after a couple of thousand miles the truth will be unfold: if the vibration is occure again than it is not coming from the disc and the pads.
That and clean the packing oil off of the rotor. I'm sure you guys did this but a bunch of noobs will watch this video, put on a new rotor straight from the box and contaminate their pads, guaranteed.
i was thinking the exact same thing, as an audi tech i would get a right telling off if i didnt get them as clean as i can, especially considering it would take them like an extra 1 min, it must be an american thing :D

Biggest problem with this sport sedan battle is that.... one needs to be turned into a sports sedan first! Can't wait to see how it's done though, gonna be an epic journey for sure.
Slap spoiler, remove doors! RACE CAR :P In all seriousness though that thing would need a significant diet plus some stiff coilovers to be potent. Car can be quick if done right. Not fast. :P
You should clean your hub matting surfaces up so they are spotless, all that corrosion can cause brake wobble and make it hard to get the disc’s off. Use a wire wheel and flap wheel on the hubs, when clean use some Permatex zinc anti seize or ceramic grease between the hub and the disc and between the disc and the wheel. 👍
The problems you describe are symptomatic of bad front lower control arm bushings. I had the shake under braking on my LS430 and it was resolved by new bushings. They are oil filled and if cracks form the oil leaks out and give you the symptoms you describe. You can see them from under the car without having to take anything off.
Loving this build👌I’d recommend inspecting the lower control arm bushings. They are a common wear point on these, and could contribute to vibration under braking loads. Also improves the steering feel slightly.
absolutely. I have one of these cars. Had to replace mine when I bought it due to a previous incident where the hub and bushing were replaced on one side. The original side was super sloppy on my 150k mile car. Some people say theirs are fine at that mileage but mine was loose and visibly had significant movement. I put new OEM ones from an IS on mine with the aluminum housing. You could also use RC GS or RCF or ISF bushings. They all fit you just have to remove the dished washer. Figs and RR Racing make upgraded ones for the track. They are generally marketed towards the IS but fit the GS and LS
@@vr6myk Good info! I've heard the IS ones would fit right in, but I wasn’t 100% sure. Did you notice any improvements/benifits from using the IS bush vs. the LS? @@MkdMuzza other than getting the slop out, no. One benefit is the bushing comes in the aluminum bracket ready to mount for almost half the price of the stock LS bushing that you have to press into the steel bracket. Also you'd have to pay to get the bushings pressed in if you don't have a press. The ISF or RCF bushings are stiffer I believe and should offer some improvement via less deflection of the bushing under braking and steering. The FIGs version is even stiffer and the RR one is another step up in reducing deflection in all directions due to its design. Improvements in steering feel, and feel under braking. Cons would be more NVH. The stock LS bushings are built for comfort.

Pro Tip for removing the shocks on a double-wishbone cars: As you see, the vertical arm that goes from the hub to the upper ball joint is very close to the strut/spring. Turning the wheel all the way left or right moves the arm away just enough to easily remove the strut/spring.
I recently went with AIRBAGS on my LS430 and instead of using Spring coil over set up, we did use a NEW struts and placed the bellow bags and it rides amazing

Ever hear of an "impact" socket to use with an "impact" gun? Or how about cleaning the rust from the mating surfaces when putting the rotor onto the hub? Or even applying anti-seize on the surfaces?
I've had 2 of these - 2001 and 2004 and loved them. Have replaced a number of front rotors to get rid of vibration - my guess from what I've read is that is was transfer of some pad material to the rotors. Pads were always good and rotors not warped at all (checked with gauge). WORST thing I ever did was replace all 4 struts and upper mounts with recommended Monroe oem equivalent - they lowered the car just enough that the tires caught the front fender openings from time to time!! Awful.
Those calipers are in fact, bad to the bone! I put a set on my LS swapped 944 along with a BMW hydroboost system (it's a long story) and on the end of a straight they will pop the rear end up and get squirrely, even with 300 lbs springs up front. Looking to correct that issue with stiffer springs and perhaps some brake bias adjustment, however, point is those monoblock 4 pistons are cheap to run, with large piston diameters, great thermal properties and they indeed stop well.

Thanks for the video. I’m getting ready to have mine replaced too.
Cosmetic wise i would replace these halogen headlights bulbs with leds and have the window tinted. Can't wait to see new wheels as well.
Make sure u cut a space in the strut tower. Your upper control arm will hit. You have to make clearance for it
Ever hear of an "impact" socket to use with an "impact" gun? Or how about cleaning the rust from the mating surfaces when putting the rotor onto the hub? Or even applying anti-seize on the surfaces?
Actually impressed with how much good stuff this car came with from factory
Good job. Keep it up the car sits clean and mean
Keen to see more on the LS430 and M5!
Feel your pain, My Q70, back seats gotta come out to get at rear shock top nuts
Wow these stock front brakes are radial mounted!!!
F1 technology
man, this is great.... need and LS to match my wife's LX now.
Awful.
Maybe not relevant to this build series but I'd love to see you guys messing around with an air ride setup
You missed your shot. Everyone knows that painting the callipers red adds 50hp.
Now you tell me, I have refurbished my GS300 brakes and painted mine blue, matches the car.
...only if red or a hyper yellow. All other colors add under 20 hp.
You forgot to clean all the rust from the hubs , that is a must or you will wind up with vibrations on the breaks later on !
THE M3 LOGO ON THE CALIPERS ADDS STOPPING FORCE!
you shpuld get some vibrant streetpower mufflers with the four inch tips on the LS
Why didn't you get a GS430 which is in the same class as a BMW 5series? The LS goes against the 7 series BMW, not a fair comparison.
The M5 rear shocks are also under the rear deck. Back seat, seat belts, speakers and deck out!!
I bought a 2007 ES350 from Los Angeles and brought it to Detroit. It will stay in the garage and will be allowed to go out when the roads are clean.
Those calipers are in fact, bad to the bone! I put a set on my LS swapped 944 along with a BMW hydroboost system (it's a long story) and on the end of a straight they will pop the rear end up and get squirrely, even with 300 lbs springs up front. Looking to correct that issue with stiffer springs and perhaps some brake bias adjustment, however, point is those monoblock 4 pistons are cheap to run, with large piston diameters, great thermal properties and they indeed stop well.
you should get the air suspension after the challange tho... that would be actually a good upgrade.
I used the same rotor and pads on a TSX. I only found them to be a little better than stock.
Love this series!
so excited for this build
I own a 2006 Lexus LS430 never getting rid of her she is a keeper 😎
