Mental health is one of those things that most people are afraid to talk about or even admit they’re struggling with. It’s like any other disease! I had to share my struggle with feeling nervous on my YT channel & how I dealt with it, which helped so much! Glad we’re taking the stigma out of it
A very good video, Nurse i am 67 and I was first hospitalized psychiatrically in 1969 at age 15 on an adult unit The nurses were cruel and sadistic The quality of psychiatric nursing has greatly improved I really like your emphasis for the need for psychiatric nurses to have empathy for their patients
I work as a registered nurse in an acute mental health institution and some of the nurses there need more education about how to interact with patients. thank you for these videos
Hi Regina. I pray you have a kind and passionate clinical instructor. I love mental health nursing and usually what you’ll be seeing is depression and anxiety . Remember they are human beings just going through a rough time that love having someone to listen to them.
Thank you for your content…. Im in my last semester and i feel that the subject is not explain very through to me… thank you fir helping me understand mental health communication techniques!!!!
One thing that I feel falls short in "nursing teaching" is the follow up that one sentence will cause. For example : a therapeutic statement @14:15 is "I noticed you applied for a job". Okay..let's think about what will happen next....the patient says, "Yes, I did". NOW WHAT. Lol. 😂 I mean...social norms would expect the nurse to say "That's great!" Or "That's a good step" or "I hope you get it!"..but in textbook world, all of those statements would be wrong to say because they show agreement/approval (non therapeutic). Basically - nursing by textbook likes to pretend that it's normal to make a single stmt, not wrap up a conversation or have a "closing " or assist the nurse student with how to continue up the last statement without falling into the "that's wonderful!" Non therapeutics ending to the conversation Trap
@@BrigitteNP yeah! 🤗 and I didn't mean this towards you personally just to be clear 😀 I mean the textbooks as I'm going through it just act like that's the whole convo 😂 video was super helpful to reaffirm what I learned! Thx!

Forgive but never forget
Things are better now but they still have a long way to go

I'm so glad! Best of luck!
Thank you. I start my clinical next week, and I am so nervous.

I agree with you. It's very counterintuitive to not be able to provide positive reinforcement.
