Happy to hear that, Sydney! I think philosophy is a great minor that would pair well with just about any major.

In October 2020, I attended my very first philosophy lecture at KU Leuven, it was about the allegory of the cave. Before the lecture, the professor told us to stay us from our phones as it creates some kind of false connection and we should be aware of those connections and etc. The lecture lasted 2 hours and I was so deeply influenced. Since then I started reading philosophical books. When I was about to graduate, my master's research somehow led me to sociology. Today I live in a country ruled by a crazy dictator and the discourse machine he created, where I can't access UA-cam properly, where the state propagates the uselessness of English education and the errors of the so-called "Western thought". However, philosophy and sociology give me the theoretical basis and perspective to gaze at my country in a different, nuanced manner. I learned to perceive my culture and the Zeitgeist ( e.g. anti-intellectualization, militarization, and de-scientificization) in a well-informed way. Those fortunes of mankind have made me less confused and miserable. I like your channel very much Prof, you make complex theories easy to understand and accept. I'll not miss any of your videos, it has helped a lot. Thank Prof and have a nice day. 😃

Thanks for sharing this. I think probably one of the great gifts of studying philosophy is that we’re able to think ourselves out of our specific contexts. Plato’s cave seems to suggest that the rules and ideas that dominate our time and place might not be as permanent or durable as we think. In this way philosophy can help us evaluate the truth and Justice of particular positions or rules from a more objective standpoint. Your comment is a great illustration of this. Thanks again!

Besides being into Linguistics, now it is time to combine it with Literature and Philosophy.
I would advise those who want to study and learn philosophy just to start learning critical thinking, and the book I would recommend is called Critical Thinking: A Concise Guide by Gary Kemp, Robert Cowan, and Tracy Bowell.
AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CREATING SUCH A QUALITY CONTENT!
