"It feels like the cruelest joke in existence has been played on us, we became self-aware only to realize this story is not about us". Omg man I never looked at it that way and I don't know exactly how to feel about it.
It reminds me of the end of "Player #1": It´s not about winning, it´s about playing together. And Blade runner 2048: You think you´re the one but not, you are just another one. So play safe and have fun!
"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.” -Mark Twain.
Da Absurd Bird How do you know? you are saying it like you are god lol. We just simply don’t know, maybe it’s a world human perspective can’t understand, maybe not, too many possibilities, stop acting like you are certain.
@Rmanigu Yea genius.. Obviously, it's a figure of speech, a paradox, a mystery. Almost everything humanity knows about existence are still theories so everything you choose to believe is also still a theory. Chill.
I have severe death anxiety. And only a few people know about my condition. I don't usually write a comment but this time i couldn't stop myself, this video of Kurzgesagt has helped me deeply. I tried to keep myself distracted to avoid thinking about it, but never thought a alternative perspective could save me. So my heartfelt thanks to Kurzgesagt for this.❤
Hey 😊 I'm so sorry to hear about your anxiety. That must be so tough. I realize I don't know you at all, and I don't know what journey you're on, but I went through something very similar. If you search, Tim Keller, Eternity, you may also find help. Just to be upfront, it's a Christian perspective, but super thoughtful. Again, no pressure. Just wanted to pass along something that helped me, to a fellow traveler
My brother died breifly in a motorcycle accident and said death felt like "being a kid when we have no worries" and "you know how as an adult, it's 99% worry and 1% no worry...well it was the 1%" He now looks forward to death.
@@sabinew239 well if you hated it, the wasted time is a waste of time according to this statement. Not being rude but if you tried to overcome ptsd and depression but get nowhere better. Just think it is a fun journey to have, an experience to learn from. thus, your time won't be wasted since now your "wasted time" is a source of your happiness and knowledge. Sure it is painful and hard but hating life will just make it worse. keep it chill, find what you think fun and fulfilling, love any experience you had. now nothing is a waste.
DBNROP but its fun right? The joy of watching movies, finding out the plot, potentially learning some moral stories from movies, experiencing new technologies that brought u to the digital pixels that you’re seeing. The joy of video games, to have fun, to practice hand eye coordination, to try different types of entertainment... u find the joy in doing things for fun,, so u’re not wasting your time. U certainly do not have to be working and learning something or be productive to not waste your time. 💕
t's weird how most of us living on Earth will never meet or even acknowledge each other's existence. For example, if you're reading my comment; this is probably the first and last time you'll ever see me.
@@being_black_is_not_a_choice For me, it's because you can make peace with death. It doesn't matter what your going through right now. In the end, it's okay.
I am 25. Since the beginning of my twenties I suffered from nihilistic point of view. I couldn't do anything for myself because I knew nothing makes sense in the end. But lately I realised if nothing matters anyways, I can live as I want to and I dont have to prove anything to anyone. Now I try to care less in a positive way. Until I saw this video randomly, I didnt know it had a name and actually was a thing. I literally cried watching this video.
Well, guess what. This isn‘t the actual name of this. "Optimistic Nihilism“ is essentially another take on Existentialism (not saying it wasn‘t a good for the most part). But there is way more stuff and content on the internet/real life to Existentialism than just to "Optimistic Nihilism“. So you may feel free to now look a bit more into it or you may as well don‘t, your choice.
@@FoxofWallstreet thank you for sharing this with me. I will surely look at it. I’m always open to new information even if I find it is not what I was looking for.
What does "care less" in a "positive way" even mean? To some maniac, starting wars is a "positive way" because nothing matters beside what matters to them.
thats assuming you wake. Our eyes will close once we die, but they may never open and if they do, we wont be us else we would have people talkin about their past lives, or maybe we hop to another level of existence, who knows . I just want an answer. I look around and it hurts to know it will all be gone.
We are all 'God' my friend. You have always existed and will exist forever. This is literally a playground for us as 'God'. Just remember everything is a part of you, so if you hurt anyone or anything intentionally you're hurting yourself.
@@heroprime7599 okay so what we perceive as forever seems like long time, but in the grand scheme of things the universe is infinite and what we perceive as forever will be gone in the blink of an eye for the universe. Take that as you will. I see it as extremely uplifting!
even 5 years later.. this video made me cry.. not because of the unavoidable death of everything.. but because of the fact that you really should make your life as enjoyable as you can, because your time alive, and experiencing life and everything around it is gonna someday be over.
@@toxicelamain2494there is no such thing as too depressing in this life.. (I wish that was a lie). Every day children suffer a painful death thanks to war. Just because it is “too sad” doesn’t mean it’s impossible, because it is.
Back nearly 4 years ago, when I initially watched this video, it made me very depressed for quite some time, and despite the years passing, on the occassions it poped up in my feed, I still felt "hurt" being reminded of it. Not because of the nihilism, but because accepting the optimistic part automatically meant accepting the pessimistic part as well. Specifically if in the end, your mistakes, faults and suffering are voided, then the same is true for the opposite, all your struggles, victories, and goodness is also voided, I couldn't simply accept the positives and ignore the negatives. Perhaps because while I knew on an intellectual level that we (humans) are still part of the universe, on an emotional level, perhaps out of habit, we still differentiate ourselves from the world. When we say "the universe is large" we take the point of an observer, an outsider, similarly as to one might claim "humans are destroying nature", without being consciously aware that we're also part of nature, like a smoker knows smoking is bad, but still smokes. It took me a while to accept, on a subconscious level, that I'm part of the world/universe, which helped resolve my conflict. Despite the universe eventually ending, and nothing 'good' or 'bad' we do ever being remembered or having any sort of lasting or objective meaning, it doesn't mean that what we do in our lives, our successes and failures, don't matter. I'm not saying they have any actual greater meaning in the grand scheme of things, but simply that they have an impact by virtue of existing. And thus we, being an equal part of the universe as any great star or speck of dust is, have the ability to give meaning to something, simply by willing it. The apparent nothingness or lack of meaning given to us by the universe, is simply the default state we must accept in order to give ourselves the freedom to simply exist, and if we so chose, give personal meaning to what we wish to, because after all, while the universe as a whole doesn't care, the part of the universe that makes up 'you' does, and that's enough. After figuring that out for myself, I was able to understand and appreciate what this video truly had to say. ... So, I came back to leave a like :)
Nihilism: Nothing matters Optimistic Nihilism: Since nothing matters, you're free to assign value to whatever you want. So you don't have to feel like you've wasted your life playing video games and reading comic books. It made you happy. So it mattered. And if it mattered to you, you mattered too.
Kurzgesagt just solved the existential crisis. Goddamn, I love those birbs
its just that, if there is no greater meaning then the meaning you your self apply to various things, then the meaning of the meaning has no greater meaning. I struggle to find any meaning in that.
I had major existential dread, and it peaked when they said "close your eyes count to one, that's how long forever feels" and tyhen it just flatlined after that. THIS IS SUCH A GREAT VIDEO
God Created us, we sinned (lying, stealing, adultery, and hate) and deserve hell because God punishes sin. But God, in his love sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and whoever turns from sin and believes in Jesus will not perish but have life after death.
The whole "Close your eyes and count one second... that's what forever feels like after you're dead" is what really got me... freaks me out everytime I do it
This concept always freaked me out. I took points in time and thought about them later as a kid. For example when going on vacation for 2 weeks, I’m thinking beforehand that this time will pass and there’s a future me thinking about how I thought this 2 weeks ago. You can just connect these 2 time points and be like whooop and the time past, nothing you can do, if you just think about the 2 points it’s like in an instant. And if this short time frame passes you can just extend it to however long you want. You can do this with every birthday. Until you’re on the death bed, and thinking how you thought about it with 12. Why is now now?
@@daniel_960_ I do the same thing. I work 6 days a week and have 2 jobs and the night before I go in for work at my second job on that 6th day and really dont feel like waking up early to get there the next day I tell myself this exact thing. "Time may pass slow while I'm there but it'll also be over before I know it".. gets me through the weeks...

The movie Everything Everywhere All at Once was such a good movie that portrayed nihilism and optimistic nihilism so perfectly. Its a realy great watch.

@@NJovceski Indeed, and that idea is terrifying to many. That everything they are and ever were will simply stop. That they will no longer be aware of existence. Humans!!....Don’t be ignorant if you are a thinker , Everything is a proof of god, our consciousness is a huge one, { Think deeply with logic and be honest to yourself and then reject or accept, understand and don’t bring hatred. } What is aiming there is a creator!! The balance of everything is a huge sign and aim that there is a creator. { your eyes, nose, lips are balanced } { Day and Night are balanced } { earth position in the solar system is balanced } { the colors of nature is balanced } [ see why the water has no smell either no taste or color, because every single alive plants or animals is from water } ( Just imagine water is blue ) { the whole universe would be blue us animals, food, plants }. This could never be random, very impossible, and now the only argument you could bring to that is evolution select and choose just base on it instincts. I could agree on that point but We could both agree that the cells that created us and this life creation pathway have a specific guidance and a coding genes. The question will still remain the cells came from where, who created these complex cells that created our all life from the base to the sky? The coding came from where ? Who created the heavens and earth in your thinking ? I say it is God, the one, the powerful, the first. You know why god should be powerful and the first. Cause that is the most logical answer. Let me justify. The first suggestion is there is no first and no controller and owner, then our universes are infinite and they are never ending, an infinite chain, but though they create by an accident a dying universe and that is conformed scientifically and it is without any purpose. The other suggest is that god exist, everything is perfect, he is the first and created us for a purpose, and sent messengers to show his message with huge signs. You may say there is a lot of gods. All of these gods are either Idols that human did create by there hands and say it god, or animals like cows that we eat. And finally objects that humans thought they are stronger than them like the moon or sun and choose them to be gods. *All of them are vulnerable and won’t hear you or speak to you or help you in anything and you could try. Then will they not believe? } “This verse support the Big Bang and the fact that nothing can live without water” And another sign. Iron, I guess you know that as new science refers that iron isn’t natural to the earth, and didn’t not form in earth, but came down to earth from outer space. And scientists have found that billions of years ago, the earth was stuck by meteorites. These meteorites were carrying Iron from distant stars which has exploded on earth. Imagine what Quran said and hope you may be one of the ones who reason. Surah Al haded ( which means iron ) ( 25 ) { …,And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people,.. } And another one. { The Sky } It protects us from the sun radiation, freezing of space, and protects life on earth by warming the surface with heat retention. The protection proprieties of sky was discovered by scientific research in 20th century. Surah al anbyaa’ ( 32 ) { And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away. } Mentioned 1400 years ago, That is the book I am quoting from it to prove god, put these huge signs. Yahweh, god, Allah, The only, Elohim. { He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. } Quoted from Quran. Jews, Christianity, muslims all received the same message which is to worship the only true god, Christians themselves don’t follow their book so that is why they say Jesus is god and a part of god “ the 3 in 1 god ” they put partners though god is one which is the father “his name in Christianity” and Jesus never said to worship him, he is a massager just like the one before him eat and go to sleep. What do you see? Who would have mention that in your opinion? Is it the prophet, who can’t read and write, living in a desert and was a Shepherd and even though he didn’t even mention his name in the book { that claims it is the word of god [ The Quran] except few ? The last guy who I talked with, said it is a mysterious texting. Let see your response.

Hey, man. I suppose I can say I relate to how you feel. I have been dealt a heavy blow by a number of people I considered as loved ones, people I trusted and relied on - which has affected by psyche and rendered me depressed over the years. It's a really bummer, truly. One thing I found though, in the midst of all this noise, is that pouring my pains to Jesus makes me at ease. It may sound corny, but it is true. Humans can be harmful, and hurtful, but I have only experienced bliss and peace when with Jesus. My depression may come as a wave on a random occasion and totally rub me off course, but Christ has always been my anchor - and better than anyone has been able or is able to do. Self-help scarcely helps, I bet you can tell, so consider Christ to look after you and help you through. Love.
I watched this video maybe 6 months ago. It both made me more depressed and less depressed (like one of the top comments said) but, as someone who has struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts for as long as I can remember, this video and it’s underlying message about “we might as well enjoy the time we are here” ... this changed my life. I carry this thought with me everywhere I go because it keeps me alive. I realize, if I’m going to kill myself, all I’m doing is ridding my opportunity of having any chance of a good time and a good LIFE. Nothing in all my experience and therapy had quite got through to me like that message did. I know this is really personal and kinda corny, but I just really felt the need to leave this comment. If the creators ever read this, thank you for this video, truly, from the bottom of my heart. It’s kept me alive, but also more optimistic than I’ve been in a long time.

Inherent to this argument is a framing issue that doesn't take into account the utter absence of free will. There is a certain reason we used to believe that we were the center of everything, which is that this is *exactly* what it had appeared like. We had no control of that. The more we learned about the cosmos, the more we became aware of the fact that it isn't at all about us. This introduced a change in our perceptions of ourselves, one which sacrificed our anthropocentrism to a strong degree. It never was about us, but why does that matter?
@@NuelZirimSeph There's no evidence of when we became self-aware. More than likely, we became self-aware long before we could demonstrate self-awareness to each other. Also, there's another fallacy. What makes one conclude anything is or isn't about us? That's just a surmisement. The reality is that we're clueless as to why we exist, even if we're fully aware of own existence.

To me this is just peak cringe at the modern culture. Like, here's consciousness, this massive mystery that also happens to be the only thing that makes meaning and value being literally true a philosophically reasonable position, and yet, you still choose this worldview that everything is just some extension of mechanism. It's actually not just stupid, it's actually batshit insane. But, batshit insanity is what you accept when you choose self-delusion. I would say I used to be a nihilist who did not choose self-delusion. I faced and embraced the void. I couldn't stand the self-delusional types then either. Thank you Kurzgesagt, you truly changed my life.
Actually it's not. It's not powerful at all. It's well narrated and illustrated, yes, but it's definitely not powerful; pitiful is more like it; deceptive would be most accurate. This video is simply a catchy promotion of empirical and relativistic skepticism - both of which are self-refuting. In addition, the informal fallacies are all over the place. For example, you don't get through 45 sec. before the author commits a post hoc (after this therefore because of this) fallacy when he dismisses, a priori, supernaturalism simply because we know more about the stars. In other words, there seems to be a claim that after we found out how the stars work we know there can be nothing supernatural at work. Here is a syllogism for this very faulty logic: 1. If the stars are more than twinkling little lights, then there is no teleological explanation for them. 2. The stars are more than twinkling little lights. 3. Therefore, there is no teleological explanation for them. Not only does this faulty logic beg the question, commit some sort of post hoc fallacy or hasty generalization about scientific knowledge in general but it actually seems to me that the opposite (although not logically air tight) would be more probable. 1. If stars are more than twinkling lights but instead are highly complex and serve a significant purpose in the ecology of the universe, then there is likely a teleological and intelligent source of their origin. 2. Stars are more than twinkling lights and are instead complex astronomical bodies that serve a purpose/function in the universe (our sun is a great example). 3. Therefore, there is likely a teleological and intelligent source for there origin. Either way you look at it, belief in the supernatural is no less warranted than naturalistic skepticism. Skepticism leads to nihilism - the loss of all meaning - and as humans we can only survive by seeking, learning, and knowing that we possess meaning. Therefore, optimistic nihilism is an oxymoron. If this is not seen at the beginning of one's journey into nihilism it will certainly be seen in the end.
True nihilism: And it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t matter that nothing matters. Everything is chaos no matter how much people try to say otherwise. Subjective values assigned to meaningless things are themselves meaningless and grounded in no objective truth.
Sasper That is true, but remember, we’re only talking in the context of nihilism. I’m religious so I don’t believe in nihilism, I’m just correcting the idea that just because everything is meaningless means it can mean whatever you want. This is existentialism, not nihilism. Neither is necessarily better than the other, just the definitions are different.
I would not use the word "dead", it is rather not alive. Yes, there is a difference! Consider a stone. A stone is not dead, since he has never lived and could therefore not die. Because of that, a stone is only not alive.
0:51 "we're made of many little dead things, which make up bigger dead things that are not dead for some reason" That is the best description of life I've heard.
@Interceptor Nothing matters in an objective sense, everything that matters to us humans is therefore the thing that matters. Not a loss of values, but rather that we choose our values.
Lol. History of humanity is a lot of fucking words. Mathematically it is certain that another combination of words has been said that is more comforting.
Today is the day to share this with people who are feeling hopeless from the US election results. Just used it in therapy with a client and it really helped.

Nihilism: what's the point of doing anything if it won't matter in the end? Optimistic nihilism: what's the point of *not* doing things if it won't matter in the end?
Humans!!....Don’t be ignorant if you are a thinker , Everything is a proof of god, our consciousness is a huge one, { Hear my argument, Understand it , Then response I want us both to see the right path } { Think deeply with logic and be honest to yourself and then reject or accept, understand and don’t bring hatred. } How everything is so balanced, and seems just right ? { who made it balanced ? is it the coincidence Or the randomness of the nature? } How we know the beautiful and the ugly? { Who taught Us ? Is it the cell !! } - How did we known the right and wrong? { Who taught Us Evil and good ? Is it the cell !! } - Why did we wear clothes in the first place, what the difference between us and animals? { who did made us wear the clothes ? Is it the cell } If your answer is I don’t know, { DON’T CONTINUE READ. cause you are not truthful to yourself…} If you a man of logic, Our Consciousness in particular came from somewhere, you may say the cell, but from where the cell get the consciousness ? Who created the heavens and earth in your thinking ? Is it the delusion answer that the universe appears from nothing or is it “I Don’t Know” I let you see some of what evidence I have and you have a brain to think about that. The only true god said.. ( We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?) That’s a challenge you need to see by yourself : - See {👇🏽} God said: 1- ( [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed - and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.) 2- ( And they say, "There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time." And they have of that no knowledge; they are only assuming.) 3- ( And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples." @ And [remember] when they said, "O Allah, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment.") 4- *{ And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.} “This verse talking about Space expansion” 5- *{ Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe? } “This verse talking about the Big Bang” 6- { Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? @ Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.} If you reached here and you didn’t at least consider believing in God, that’s for you, god said: ( Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt? {56} This [Prophet] is a warner from [i.e., like] the former warners. {57} The Approaching Day has approached. {58} Of it, [from those] besides Allāh, there is no remover. {59} Then at this statement do you wonder? {60} And you laugh and do not weep {61} while persisting in heedlessness? {62} So prostrate to Allāh and worship [Him]. “ { Quoted from the Quran : Which claims to be the word of God and that it all correct before 1400 years old } Hope that god guide us all to the right path....
Every once in a while I re-watch this, specially when I'm kinda sad or feeling under the weather. It reminds me how little time I have left and its absolutely a crime to let things prevent me from enjoying life.
My friend said this when I asked her why she was reading comics before an exam: “if the world ended tmw, I wouldn’t regret not studying but I will regret not finishing this”
@@offlaner745 the other way to see it is that in the long run, she might be better studying and letting the entertainment after the responsibility was met.
@Agente 07 but you can't have regret when you die because you experience nothing, so you shouldn't live life based on what you might regret when you die, but what you will regret when you are alive, which could be failing the test.
You're miniscule in a cosmic and temporal sense so why give a fuck? Be drunk, be merry, do what you want, make the world a better place, or leave societies trembling in your wake... it's all here. it's a glorious canvas, use it
Yep. Before all the edgelords ruined nietzsche, his original idea was like “nothing matters so why not” This is much more comforting than “nothing matters so why bother”
quang nguyen that’s because you are smarter then 99% of humanity who prefers the comfort of a strict value system and moral superiority then the freedom (non-delusional) realization that you’re a free to paint your own value... and change it for a more desirable subjective value system when you get bored... enjoy that freedom most wont.
എന്നെത്തന്നെ to say one is mort accurate than the other is fallacious there is nothing that ought to be accomplished. And if “edgelords” are pressured to behave as a hermit than more for us to conquer.... also Fredrick wasn’t exactly optimistic, nor motivating behaviors.
This is exactly my philosophy. We exist, and then we’re gone forever. Yes, life is pointless, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t enjoy our time here. Nothing we feel at any given moment matters in the grand scheme of the universe, but it still matters to us at that moment. We should still try to give as many people as possible a good quality of life and enjoy the time we have here before we completely cease to exist.
@@uhtredsonofuhtred2867 When you help others you create a better carma for yourself and it outmaneuvers your ego for a split second wich is scientifically proven to make us feel better. But you might be wired differently
@@uhtredsonofuhtred2867 I know this is cliché but helping others you love makes you feel good. Doing good to others is just enlightened self-interest. So helping others doesn't contradict this video.
I really feel like this video has crystallized the embodiment of my own personal outlook on life. I just want to say that I came back to watch the video this time around because I wanted to see how you all depicted nihilism, and it did not disappoint. The visualizations of fear in an empty universe are incredible
God Created us, we sinned (lying, stealing, adultery, and hate) and deserve hell because God punishes sin. But God, in his love sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and whoever turns from sin and believes in Jesus will not perish but have life after death.
@@Joshiboiy Belief in heaven and hell is little more than the hope of moral dessert and fear of moral punishment bestowed on you some ancient text, not a desire to help the people that exist on this earth for its own sake. Morals can exist outside your god, and if you don't think you can be a moral person without your god, that says more about you than it does about your god. Two can play that game.The person on the other side of the screen can proselytize as well, but I'd rather have an honest conversation about the topic of this video. I'm not confident that this isn't more than a copypasta given to you by someone else and you haven't put any thought into your post. Hopefully you'll think about spaces that share contrasting ideas as more than an opportunity to spread your religious beliefs. But thanks for giving me the opportunity to deliberate and refine my own proselytizing copypasta.
@FireEmeralds76 This quote affirms just about every possible worldview, including religions. Kinda dumb, considering that all of the different ideas conflict with one another.
I once walked into a bar where I had no idea one of those bluetooth headphone concerts was going on, and trust me...you alternate between "are they all insane, or am I insane?" a few times within the couple seconds it takes to figure out what's going on.
@Dark Fire Hey mate, don't ever think about ending your life just because some people don't like you, you should try to get away from those people and live on your own if possible and you do matter, everyone on this planet matters in some or the other way, you only get one shot at life so use it wisely, anyways you seem like an amazing person :)
@Dark Fire I don't know you, and I don't know why people would hate you. I don't know what's going on n your life, and I don't know why it seems like it isn't worth living. But I can say one thing with complete certainty: God loves you, and He has a plan for you. His purpose for your life may be beyond human comprehension, but there is a purpose to it, so keep on living.
@Dark Fire you are worth living just by the fact that you are alive, by being so, you will always find something to fight for, always, anything or anyone. I dont know you and i probably never will, but one thing I know is that at that moment of your life, whenever you find whatever that seems fine to you to be living for, you will be extremely grateful for not having killed yourself back then when it all looked, and might have been, dark and hopeless. But above all, no matter how much darkness, hopelessness and emptyness there is, THERE IS ALWAYS A ROAMING LIGHT SOMEWHERE , remember
Optimistic Nihilism is like a hardcore Minecraft world. In the end, you'll die and everything you did in the game gets deleted. But in the meantime, you have so much to do. You can build whatever you want, conquer your world, become super advanced and powerful. In the end it'll all disappear, but so what? It was fun while it lasted, and that made it worth it.
Except for the fact that real life isn't minecraft. You probably won't conquer the world, reign supreme, can't do whatever you want or even be remembered by people who aren't your direct family. A intrinsically and inherently useless life is not one worth living my friend.
That’s not the way you should think about stuff. The fact that life isn’t inherently meaningful is a blessing because we get to decide what it means to ourselves. People aren’t inherently good, but that doesn’t mean a vast majority of us don’t choose to do the right thing anyway, simply because it is the right thing. Also, having your direct family remember you is the best thing that could happen! It means you left a lasting imprint on those around you and that people care about and rely on you. Take care of yourself, my friend.
@@calmcgee3510 well, my thing is, nihilists do choose the value they assign to life, and they dictate it to be worthless, and with that, there can be no right or wrong, good or bad, just things that further him, or me. You take care too man.
@prozeemation_8658 as someone already in comments said: "Nihilism: Nothing matters Optimistic Nihilism: Since nothing matters, you're free to assign value to whatever you want. So you don't have to feel like you've wasted your life playing video games and reading comic books. It made you happy. So it mattered. And if it mattered to you, you mattered too. So what is wrong with that? That’s the beauty of it. If you feel like my sentence makes any meaning to you then you can accept it or just deny it. World is balanced in belief and facts so we have to think about that too and don’t shove our belief of nihilism to others. You are quoting people in your comment because you think that their opinion matters to you, so they matter to you. As said earlier it's upto you to put values in whatever matters to you. But don't shove your opinions of what matters to you must matter to others, that is religion." Also, you are shoving nihilism down my throat with your quotes. I am not a man without purpose and belief. I am a man with purpose and belief that gives my life meaning because I think they do so(optimistic nihilism). I am not giving my life a meaning and belief because somebody said so in a quote. If you are saying total nihilism with no optimism is bad then I might disagree to some extent because not all cases roots to nihilism are bad. For example: we know from science and carbon dating that humans were first found around 1.4 to 2.5 million years ago. after human invented computer it's not even 2 centuries old and it already took us from a vaccum tube to a point where you have apple vision and neuralink time where we are capable of reading human brain signals and provide very high quality Augmented reality to users. Given another 1000/2000 years, that is a very very very small amount in a timeline of what human have already lived, we will reach a point where we will be able to simulate full brain and maybe we are already living in a simulation. So, if I believe in that fact then what is wrong in that. You cannot prove you are not in a simulation. I might be a person on the internet that your brain simulation is simulating to give you a sense of belief that you are having a conversion to someone. I may not be real at all. So, just straight out saying nihilism makes no sense is really absurd to me. It will depend what is your cause of accepting nihilism. Straight up saying something doesn't makes sense because it goes against what I belief is not what something I agree with.
@prozeemation_8658 aw man, if i knew your comment was pro-faith/religion i wouldnt even have bothered reading it. NOW I HAVE EVEN LESS TIME TO ENJOY MY LIFE, SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE? lol
Makes sense. You probably don’t know what to believe, so you attach yourself to a philosophy to feel ok. When we believe in a philosophy it helps us to feel ok in the way that we can know what the purpose of all life is.

optimistic and pesimistic nihilism are the same, what changes is youre preception of them, we all know that we are a mere speck of dust in the whole universe so lets appreciate what we have and try to improve our society the best we can. @@solisluna1591 Optimistic Nihilism is literally just existentialism lmfao Optimistic Nihlism is contradictory I have no clue why kurzgesagt created up a bullshit walmart version of existentialism...
The one thing I struggle with is the end. I know everyone dies, everyone’s story comes to an end as all stories must. Some peoples stories end sooner than later, some peoples stories are cut short…Some peoples stories last lifetimes. But the fear I have, is when mine will end. I’ve come to reason with my mind that I will die. Maybe sooner, maybe later. And that disturbs me greatly.. and many times I wish I didn’t understand what death is. I’d rather that everyone goes to a beautiful place in the sky, but I do know that it will be nothing. Empty, and nothing. There is nothingness in nothing, you will not know you are dead. You won’t feel pain, but all your memories, and who YOU are as a person. Who you’ve built yourself up to be, this idea of what you are, and who you are, are gone. Everything in the world that you have come to surround yourself with will have never existed. Your mind will be gone, and soon your body. I for one CANT come to peace with that, though I try. I spend my nights wondering why? Why should anything I do right now or later matter when I will be dead. I’d rather just do things that make me happy, why do I have to go to school? Get a job? Work my whole life? If it simply ends? We are on a rock, in a solar system, in a galaxy, in the universe. We are so small, our lives are SO small. And I find it intresting how people get caught up in their own lives, don’t they understand all this ideology that we have made up about what is right, what is wrong, what shouldn’t be done- doesn’t matter? Your opinions will die eventuality with you. So why does it matter if a biological women transitions to a male. He is so small to you, and to others. He isn’t bothering anyone, but people feel the need to have opinions on it? When this small matter has no effect, none, on the world? Nothing matters, and in that, in a sense- everything matters. Just some thoughts I thought I would write down. If you have opposing views, or agree, id love to discuss with you.
Yeah.. we know all of us will die, it is inevitable, and we can't understand that, I mean our brains can't understand concept of death since our consciousness only exists in existence. If we really try to think what we were doing or feeling before our birth, it will create same sort of existential dread as in case of time after death. It was like.. boom and we are conscious out of nowhere, like all the billions of years or infinity if you wish, have passed before, it did not matter. Same will happen after death, but difference is that there won't be snap moment anymore, just.. well, can't really say how it will be. You are right that we can't "fix" this problem, no matter how much time we spend thinking about it. Our daily lives are far away from such ideas, we are so involved in many little things that we rarely think about such ideas. If now we are contemplating about our existence and meaning, tomorrow we will wake up and do regular things, because that's what actually is important, to stay alive at least, and then decide to have some sort of goal in our lives. I am pretty sure no matter how many years pass, every time I watch this video, same feeling will arise. Just right now I wanted to delete this comment, but then realized that it does not matter at all, so let it hang around here, I guess that's what optimistic nihilism is :)

No, but think about it. We are the only conscious life that we know exist. Nothing else knows what it is or is self aware. Since we are a part of the universe and can look back on it, we can be considered the self aware part of the universe. It doesn't need us, but it's cool that it has us.
Alistocrat Well you have also animals and ET :-) However I agree that at our best knowledge we are the only ones being able to ask ourselves the question of meaning and this is how people become something else than big monkeys. So finally you see humans as the consciousness of the universe ? Because we are not only sensory organs, for that animals are also.
Life isn't a journey. There is no destination. Instead life is more like a song and you don't listen to a song to hear the ending. You simply listen to a song to enjoy the music.

Yeah I do this sometimes and it legit freaks me out lol our brain is very hard wired to survive.

Humans!!....Don’t be ignorant if you are a thinker , Everything is a proof of god, our consciousness is a huge one,
{ Think deeply with logic and be honest to yourself and then reject or accept, understand and don’t bring hatred. }
What is aiming there is a creator!!
The balance of everything is a huge sign and aim that there is a creator.
{ your eyes, nose, lips are balanced }
{ Day and Night are balanced }
{ earth position in the solar system is balanced }
{ the colors of nature is balanced }
[ see why the water has no smell either no taste or color, because every single alive plants or animals is from water }
( Just imagine water is blue )
{ the whole universe would be blue us animals, food, plants }.
If your answer is that we actually don’t know, and you say you are a realist person and you don’t want make a step forward to take a side to an answer about it.
{ DON’T CONTINUE READ. cause you are not truthful to yourself… and you want to not bother yourself to the truth or trying to avoid this truth as much as possible - please don’t run from the truth, or atlesat consider it, i know it is hard - not easy to just change your life by changing your belief, god will hold you’re suffering if you let him }
If you a man of logic, Our Consciousness in particular came from somewhere, you may say the cell, but from where the cell get the consciousness ?
What’s makes The one I am calling for special ?
{ He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. }
There is two ways to accept an idea, in my opinion one is a dark no point way, and there is a light faithful way.
It is all about what you choice, what is your destiny. What you really deep down truly think ? Don’t let emotions and bad thoughts take you to a dark way.
The only true god said..
( We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?)
That’s a challenge you need to see by yourself : -
See {👇🏽}
SMALL SIGNS
God said:
( [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed - and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.)
( And they say, "There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time." And they have of that no knowledge; they are only assuming.)
( And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples." @ And [remember] when they said, "O Allah, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment.")
HUGE SIGNS BLIND WOULD SEE.
*{ And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.}
“This verse support Space expansion”
*{ Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe? }
“This verse support the Big Bang and the fact that nothing can live without water”
And another sign.
Surah Al haded ( which means iron ) ( 25 )
{ …,And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people,.. }
And another one.
{ The Sky }
It protects us from the sun radiation, freezing of space, and protects life on earth by warming the surface with heat retention.
The protection proprieties of sky was discovered by scientific research in 20th century.
Surah al anbyaa’ ( 32 )
{ And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away. }
Mentioned 1400 years ago,
That is the book I am quoting from it to prove god, put these huge signs.

Inherent to this argument is a framing issue that doesn't take into account the utter absence of free will. There is a certain reason we used to believe that we were the center of everything, which is that this is *exactly* what it had appeared like. We had no control of that. The more we learned about the cosmos, the more we became aware of the fact that it isn't at all about us. This introduced a change in our perceptions of ourselves, one which sacrificed our anthropocentrism to a strong degree. It never was about us, but why does that matter?
We didn't realize that, that is just the surmisement of false intellects.

This video is so powerful.
PRESTON! Get off youtube and help settlements for fucks sake. You're fucking useless.
Here is a syllogism for this very faulty logic:
1. If the stars are more than twinkling little lights, then there is no teleological
explanation for them.

This philosophy somehow doesn't work for me. Like, all the stuff he said earlier only convinces me to enjoy MY life as much a possible and not others.

"Nihilism: Nothing matters
Optimistic Nihilism: Since nothing matters, you're free to assign value to whatever you want.
But don't shove your opinions of what matters to you must matter to others, that is religion."
Also, you are shoving nihilism down my throat with your quotes.
For example:
we know from science and carbon dating that humans were first found around 1.4 to 2.5 million years ago.
after human invented computer it's not even 2 centuries old and it already took us from a vaccum tube to a point where you have apple vision and neuralink time where we are capable of reading human brain signals and provide very high quality Augmented reality to users.
NOW I HAVE EVEN LESS TIME TO ENJOY MY LIFE, SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE? lol

Nobody:
Kurzgesagt at every video: WE NEED TO BUILD A GALACTIC HUMAN EMPIRE
David Latkin a lot of birds will die on this way though... ☹️
Also Elon musk
David Latkin How about every curious mind? Knowledge is preferable to ignorance
@@JayN_101 Humans make everything gross because of greed lets not fuck up another rock lets just finish killing this one and hopefully perish with it.
@@xxwy9977 The universe has so much stuff that human greed could never even begin to scratch its surface. Even if we fvck up a hundred thousand rocks, there are still several trillion (and probably much much more) rocks that will go untouched and unseen.
I get anxious every time the word "time" comes up
Twice already! Shit we got no time! Argh, a third time already! Oh no! Four!
everyTIME you say? hmmmmm
Time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time time
I was thinking the exact same thing while he talked abt time and 5 seconds later I see your comment
@@potatoginger7367 I dieded too much time. 😌
I happily cried during this video. Thank you Kurzgesagt.
"We are the sensory organs of the universe."
I like that.
Alistocrat
Very egocentric ? :-)
Yeah, but it's true.
Alistocrat
Why is it true ? Does universe needs us to be complete ? Is it not finished without us ?
No, but think about it. We are the only conscious life that we know exist. Nothing else knows what it is or is self aware. Since we are a part of the universe and can look back on it, we can be considered the self aware part of the universe. It doesn't need us, but it's cool that it has us.
Alistocrat
Well you have also animals and ET :-) However I agree that at our best knowledge we are the only ones being able to ask ourselves the question of meaning and this is how people become something else than big monkeys. So finally you see humans as the consciousness of the universe ? Because we are not only sensory organs, for that animals are also.
Life isn't a journey. There is no destination. Instead life is more like a song and you don't listen to a song to hear the ending. You simply listen to a song to enjoy the music. If you're living life always focusing on the future then you'll never enjoy it because you were to busy waiting for it to end.
So just sit back relax and enjoy it for exactly what it is.
but who pays the bills if i sit back and relax?
@@oncehoode3930 it sucks, i think it's more of a video game with mandatory missions so you can progress and experience more of it, the experience as a whole could be enjoyable if you choose so.
That's one of the things that really makes me sad. While some people travel, indulge in the best foods and pleasures and have great experiences, others do not have the opportunity to live life to the best of their ability. Many people only know poverty and suffering. And me or you could be these people. By a mere chance we are the ones who are arguing about it.
@@luanagadotti8754 The problem is that we want things and we suffer without them (and yes, including food). It's just how our brain is hard-wired for survival.
@@mostafahassan8963 I don't think there is anything mandatory, there's just rules you can't break.
Me before watching this video: "life is pointless and nothing matters"
Me after watching this video: "I need to complete Fallout New Vegas and Portal before I die"
Good to see this sh*t has not consumed u😅
100th like :)
You definitely need to finish Portal, it's really good. And don't forget about Portal 2 afterwards, it's even better! :)
Bonus, we have hl3
