Thank you so much for this. Im currently struggling with this, but I started using canva, and this may be a silly question, but what do you use in canva to do this?.
You're so very welcome. And it's not a silly question at all. I simply create a new project by entering the dimensions I need. I also have some templates I use. If you would like to take a look, I have added the link to those templates right here: www.eevijones.com/chibu-courses/#formatting-templates I so hope this helps!
This was super helpful! Before this, I had no idea where to start or even what questions to ask; now I feel more informed. Your example inserts were especially useful. Thank you again!
Hey darlin I know you like Canva me to. I have created my illustrations in Canva. Are your templates compatible? And once I purchase are there instructions for the size I need to make my illustrations to work with your templates. Thank you so much, JJ
For some reason, although I used Create and followed all formatting advice for KDP, when I actually purchased my own book, the cover does not show (other than a thumbnail) and the book will not work on my 7th generation Kindle. Amazon says that Create results in formatting that will work with all iterations of the Kindle. I think my children's book is mostly useless in ebook form. Still waiting on delivery of my softcover print books to see how that formatting came out. That had to be re-uploaded three times to get it right. One thing people should check is that if you don't want to pay for a commercial license for typefaces, and you use a commercially-free font, then check in-between your typed areas on pages in blank spaces for any other fonts that might get embedded, but are not actually used. Thank you for your videos Eevi.
Hi @writerandphotographer! When opening your book on your e-reader, try going backward in your book (instead of forward). Sometimes, ebooks open up a few pages in, instead of on the cover. Congratulations! And I hope your paperback has worked out! Good luck with your launch!
@@EeviJones Thank you for the response Eevi...........it won't even let me download the book onto my Kindle. ...it says "unavailable for download....the item is not compatible with this device." It would be great to try out your suggestion otherwise. It's strange that I used their software and it is still not compatible. I sent them a request more than a week ago for help, but they have never responded. Thankfully, the book is out in paperback and available through Barnes & Noble also. Still waiting on the softcovers.....it's been a week.
17:21 in the rules of Amazon "There's no language in your files and metadata that implies your book is part of a bundled set." does that mean i can not do announcement of my next book on the last page?
I am formatting my first book and have used all your videos & tools however I have an issue with page count. I have 22 spreads and a title page and copywrite page. (total 24). On the templates it shows you need a blank page at the beginning. Is this required? If it is then I need to go to 28 pages and either use blank or come up with more back matter??
Hi Jo! Bleed is only added to the outside edges. Elements in the center fold are mostly okay, but we would want to stay away from having any text or important parts like faces or the like in that center fold area. I so hope this helps.
Hello Eevi, I'd like to purchase your plug n go templates BUT am uncertain about the following: The entire book was created on Procreate (on the iPad). Do you know if I'm able to upload the Procreate pages to Canva? I'm so flustered right now. Thank you!!!!!! Andrea

So I have watched this and your other videos multiple times and just want to be sure on this one point. If I want my title page to be page 3 with just a white blank page before it, do I need to put 2 white blank pages in the final PDF file? Or do they just use the one page and assume the back is page 2. Hope that makes sense. The way I have my draft in Canva is 2 blank white pages and then my title page. I remember you saying, “what you see is what you get”. Is that correct? Thanks so much for any advice on this.
Hi Karen! Yes, if you would like a blank page to the left of your title page, we would have to add two blank pages. I would only do so for the paperback, though. For hardcovers, there will already be a blank page next to our title page. I so hope this helps.
Thanks so much for your prompt reply, and also for the hardcover tip as well. I would not have known that about the blank page already being there. Just about ready to hit “Publish”. Yay, and many thanks to you!!!

Hi Eevi. I started using Canva for my books. However, I read somewhere that the print quality is reduced after using Canva. Please let me know if there is any truth to this. I tried Indesign but it is not at all user friendly.
Happy Monday! That would depend on how our images are being exported. Are you using the templates I am sharing with Plug & Go Formatting Templates? If so, then those are already accounting for Canva's persnickety quality settings. I so hope this helps!
Hello! I formatted my book by the rule (adding the bleed recommended) and even got my proof copy with no issues. Now that I hit publish I got an email saying: We've checked your files and found some issues that you need to fix in order to publish your book on KDP: Inside Extend the book page width by 3.2 mm (0.125") and the height by 6.4 mm (0.25") to ensure that manuscript images extend beyond the edges of the page. Once you have extended the size, extend any images or backgrounds that you want to reach the edge of the page 3.2 mm (0.125") beyond the cut line. This way there will be no problems when we cut the custom file See examples on pages 19 of the PDF. I don't know what to do. Please help
Hi Susi! It's tricky to pinpoint where things may need some tweaking. If you have chosen the 8.5 x 8.5 trim sizes for example, we will need our individual pages to be as follows: width = 8.5 + 0.125 = 8.625, height = 8.5 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 8.75 (NOTE how our width and height ARE NOT the same). So make sure that your submitted PDF pages that are holding your illustrations are 8.625 x 8.75 (w x h), extending all the way to the edges of your pages. And make sure you selected the full bleed option. I so hope this helps.
