Sir, I just want to express my sincere gratitude for this video. I bought an Aventon E-bike, it was great until I hit a curb and bended the rim. Being an E-bike and me living in a country where they are not common no shop wanted to even look at it and Aventon is all out of wheel replacements not that they shipped to my country anyways, so I was in a bit of a predicament you see, until I saw your video. My bike is now fully operational once again after months of running around chasing dead ends! It was simple, clear and very helpful. Thank you sir.
Man, thank you. I had an almost identical dent like that on my rear DT Swiss aluminum rim. I knew no bike shop in the city would offer to fix it and this did the trick. Saved me hundreds on a full replacement.
Just had this happen to me on a ride, I was looking at it thinking surely that can be fixed, a quick search and a few minutes later here is my answer! Cheers for the easy solution.😁
That's great! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! I appreciate it and it's very rewarding to help share the things I've learned from working on bikes since the 1970's!
Finally got around to fixing and doing some much needed maintenance on my bike after an accident in the fall, one of my first ride out, goofed up my rear rim, I was very annoyed
Regarding the truing part, were you able to keep the tension consistent compared to pre dented stage? I have a similar dent, however i left the dent alone because the wheel wasnt losing air. However the tensions seemed to be off and the best i can do is get it to a point where there is a little 1 to 2mm wobble on my mtb rim.
I was doing a wheelie and went to swerve my brother and my back peg caught his rear end rim and it now has an identical dent to the one in the video and thanks to it I don’t have to give him $100 for a new one👍😁
for anyone that has done this repair, how did it hold up afterwards? was it totally fine after or it did it only buy you a little time before replacing the wheel? asking cause i have the identical problem.
Thanks a lot. My DYU EBikes wheels is made in China. That thing is sofer than cup cakes. It broke just like that. I'm gonna cut it to square shape and try walde it .
Good tip as usual! Happy New Year Joey! Would like to ask you a question in private about a bb replacement if possible. No pressure. Would understand if not possible.
Thank you Denis! Sure, ask away! If you go to the about section of my channel, I believe there’s a link to my email. There’s also a link to my Instagram, and you can send me a private message there as well. Let me know if neither of those work and we’ll figure something else out. Talk to you soon!
Would it be a good idea to heat up the rim first? Cause when you bend aluminum stock, they always heat it up first. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is a good idea or not ?

Thank you for making this video. I’m going to use this advice later this afternoon on a wheel I dinged yesterday.
Got a similar dent to this, a tad larger but similar shape so will give it a try.
I might try to fix my rim tomorrow using this tutorial, got hit by a frickin farm machinery
This video is awsome, never thought about the flat steel bar tool
Great! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
this was a big help and I've now considerably improved a dent to a SUP ceramic rim. Thanks
Ceramic rims?
Thank you so much! I have the exact same rim and had a dent in pretty much the same spot. Fixed in 5 mins thanks to this vid 😊

Definitely a “little & often” works best🎉

Nice Joey. Happy New Year! I hope you keep the videos coming.
Thanks Philip! Happy new year to you too! I'll try my best to keep making new videos, that's one of my New Years resolutions!
Does it have to be unnoticeable after the fix for it to be safe?
yo thanks so much bro
if I do this I don't have to worry about jumping and casing things right?

Thanks! Gonna try!
Have fun!
Great job! How could i do this without scratching the rim
maybe try wrapping the end of the wrench in something like tape so it isnt metal on metal?
Any value to heating it up a bit first?
I'm guessing you aren't going to just send it on a 30 foot jump on this rim
Thanks you so much😢😢

@@JoeyMesa Will do soon. Thanks!

No, not aluminum. It will be soft in that spot if you heat it up. Cold set if possible, or best practice would be to replace the rim.
OK good to know, just gotta say, this video helped me save my rim. Just bent it back with a wrench. Thanks. @@JoeyMesa
Does it work on carbon ones?
No 😅
I tried this and the dented part cracked😢 time for a new rim
can you still ride a dent rim?
depends how bad it is, if it's tubeless it probably won't work as tubeless you will probably have to run it with a tube as the tyre won't seal
Nice job. Don't try this on a carbon rim.
Does carbon dent like alloy? Or any other metal material? I always thought carbon just fails without any sort of indication.
@@B_COOPER carbon can only get fractured or get little cracks
