Having some metallurgy knowledge, i heat up the rim with a heat gun and bend the bend back with a crescent wrench 🔧. Btw, remove the rim tape and bend back with small increments, reheating in between. Don't touch the rim. It's hot.
I actually have started switching out all of my bolts with titanium bolts from Better Bolts. I'm switching them out with the copper colored Ti bolts and so far it looks awesome and the price isn't bad coming in at about $5.00 per bolt. Yes, that adds up if you plan to replace every bolt on your bike at once but doing it a few at a time definitely doesn't break the bank. I've been ordering 4 bolts per week which only comes in at around $30 per week.
You can't really call a Ti-N coating on the chain titanium. Regarding rim bending, best practice to back up the rim with a plank and gradually press the dent in with parallel jaw pliers, Knipex style. Pinching with pliers or wrench as shown here creates cracks next to where the jaws pinch material
If you had a choice between, a 160mm front/ 150mm rear travel bike with 29” wheels or 170mm front/160mm rear travel bike with 27.5”wheels, for enduro which would be better suited? #askgmbntech
#askgmbntech - when do we get to see the breakdown of all the tech used in the DHI and EDR (and XC if you really feel the need 😄) - accepting bias around sponsorships - what was the most successful drivetrain, tyres, frame etc - full episode - go SUPER techy on it (the audience will love it). 🤩
#AskGMBNTech any thoughts on MTB's having ABS? I see it on E-bikes and that's a sweet tech to have on MTB. The added weight and complexity on MTB where weight is a contest. What are your thoughts maybe in the future? Thanks and more power watching here from the Philippines.
#AskGMBNTech Can you mix Shimano and SRAM for a mountain bike if you want to use SRAM AXS electric shifting but keep your Shimano chain, cassette, and crank? And if possible, is it a simple swap? Any recommendations for wanting electric shifting but not changing every component?
What are your thoughts on electrical component replacement parts with the current state manufacturing in the world? It's going to be rough when an ebike owner hears there's an 8 months backorder and a replacement board that failed. #AskGMBNTech
#askgmbntech I have a 22 year old 26" Cannondale F2000 XC Hardtail and I am looking to upgrade the drivetrain. The current mix of 2x9 speed XT/XTR are getting tired from all the abuse I have given it and even fresh consumables can't do enough to rescue it. I recently had brand new Deore brakes installed as the old ones were spongy. I believe I could easily go for Deore 11sp 1x with a 36 ot 38t chainring on the front which would leave me with a slightly lower bottom gear and a top gear that matches my current setup's penultimate gear (i rarely use the top gear anyway), and I would also gain a clutch mechanism and Shadow+ technology, but the only problem is the BB - The bike has a 68mm BSA shell, how would I get a modern 1x crank to fit?
#AskGMBNTech Hello, I have Tektro brakes on my XC bike and I want to clean the piston seals. Is it safe to use a different brand of brake fluid to clean the seals? My LBS only sell Shimano and Finish Line brake fluid. Can I use either of these to clean my Tektro seals? Thanks!
As explained on a Tech show a few weeks ago, Doddy has been offered a once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity with an MTB brand involving R&D and brand ambassadorial work, and has left GMBN Tech. He's going to have his hands full and probably has more details out on his own social channels.
@@matt_acton-varian thats very good and sad Im glad for Doddy and also no wonders he got that job since he was the most savvy and the most inteligent and the most skilled person on any GMBN channels, Hi advice always hit 100% solution to any issues i had with bike repairs. GMBN without Doddy will be like a sea without any fish in it :(
@@ExcelInstructor His shoes are impossible to fill but Anna has grown into her role on the channel and Owen's expertise as an ex-pro mechanic is a good alternative. I would like to see Isaac get some more confidence, though.
@@matt_acton-varian who knows? Currently it feels like supreme void have come over GMBN TECH that no light can pass thru. OWen as ex-pro mechanic has very specific view on things due to high stakes of pro racing and pro quality, so im not sure. as for Isaac and Anna, I dont feel like they both what they are doing, it feels kinda like they are floating on wind to the direction the wind flows, also as Iwatched Anna tech views they are very different from what doddy was saying - where doddy said 10% is max of some tolerance - Anna said 15 or 20, for me personaly any doddys advice was always spot on to my issue - thats why I dont trust Anna. Nevertheless, this channel even tho it says "GMBN Tech" it feels like it kinda got lost, First Henry left, then Doddy. and their replacements are either very new. So... it feels Bad those changes.

Bending the rim and then putting a tube in, you have to watch for burrs and sharp points on the rim that can puncture the tube unless you sand it
There is a specific tool from wolf tooth to fix dented rims, I,'ve used also a bottle opener in the field!
Interesting.....good tip

I don't usually just hit the wheel on the ground and replace it later.

Every single shimano hollowtech suits 68mm BSA. You just thread it in...
@@janeblogs324 I thought the MTB cranks had a longer spindle?
@@matt_acton-varian sure does, MTB use a larger q factor. Shimano include multiple 3mm bb washers to make your bb 73mm

Use shimano one. Any mineral oil would do, because tektro uses the same fluid as shimano.
