  • I've felt so badly about neglecting my basketball brethren that this one is for you. Here is some extremely rare footage of Game #5 of the 1974 Western Conference Semifinals between the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls. These 2 clubs staged many battles during the mid-1970s, and it is a rare treat to see players like Bob Love, Jerry Sloan, Bob Lanier, Chet Walker and Dave Bing in action. Pat Summerall and Rick Barry provide the commentary. Please note this is not from a complete game. No ownership of this material is claimed.

Rare indeed. Summerall did the play by play the first season on CBS and, outside of the finals, I don't recall seeing much of it, Great find, Retro.

So cool to hear Pat Summerall, who had done so many Super Bowls as an analyst and play by play announcer, call this NBA game on CBS. 1973-74 was the only season Pat called NBA games for CBS. Thanks!

THIS IS FANTASTIC! I have been looking for highlites from this series for years. I grew up with these Bulls teams from the 1970s. I hope you can find some highlites from game 7 of this series.

0:40 As you can see, two future Hall of Fame coaches are once on the same team. Those two guys in the middle are Jerry Sloan (RIP) and Rick Adelman.

I remember watching that game. Exciting team for a few years with Dick Matta being the coach. Remember at that time CBS had a song preview you seen the best in basketball on CBS.

Is that the original Bulls PA voice Ben Bentley? Long before Jordan and Pippen squared up against Zeke and Laimbeer, we had Butterbean and Sloan vs Bing and Lanier.

Did not realize the Chicago Bulls were in existance before the Psydo goat was there.

Yes Yes Yes, those Bulls was always in the playoffs with the little money they were making at that time. They wasn't going around crying for Max contracts, they played hard with that, (Play that D). I think it was game 2 in Detroit when Bob Butterbean love scored 49 points. The Biggest mistake they made was trading Clifford Ray, 😭 to the Golden state Warriors for Nate Thurmond RIP 🙏 and that backfired, and Ray won the Championship ring in 1975, that hurt.😢💯

when u put the question on the screen, "who was first bull to have their number retired. That was an easy question because Sloan was the only white guy on the court.Thats how things were done in that day. lol
