Nice to see this car survived the film. I knew when I saw it in Shaker Run that it was a properly built race car, not a show pony.

Awesome, I'm glad the car is still around. Thanks for sharing.

Great to see the Capri still running, i'm from the States and have been interested in this car ever since discovering the movie out of a budget DVD bin when I was a kid. Always assumed it was a officially produced racing version.

Great stuff Steve. As an expat Kiwi, these nuggets of NZ motorsport history are heart warming and fascinating. The NZ motorsport scene hasn't been ruined by the commercialisation and money which transformed UK & US motorsport from the '70's onwards. As a former client of Trevor Crowe, I loved your book about him.
NZ still has the marvellous "Men in Sheds" approach to motorsport...not a bunch of entitled billionaires sitting around quaffing champagne and needing to be seen...long on cash but short on talent...which is quite prevalent in the UK.

Your story is similar to mine but in the South Island, my favourite period of saloon car racing just loved the Capris of Inky Tulloch, Ian Munt, Wayne Huxford, John Osborne etc. Thanks for a great video, great memories 👍

My brother was at the raffle mentioned in the story, and had a ticket. The event was a bit a party somewhere in East Tamaki. The winner of raffle fired it up and did a few passes up and down the street with the crowd lining the kerb cheering him on.

I remember Brent when he was an apprentice mechanic at a garage in Hastings. From memory Australia called (possibly Jim), often wondered what happened to him. One of the big problems he had at the time was he couldn't get rear axles to hang together in it. They had to be shortened from memory and there was the problem.

Would be nice to see Shaker pop-up somewhere.
Last info was that one car ended up in UK and second car ended up in Japan at some collection.

First saw this car at Pukekohe (1975) while I was flag marshalling. Bullivant's pace was impressive, especially for a 19 year old. The car though, looked difficult, particularly over the hill coming down to the front straight. It is a funny old thing how often a well built (and expensive) car driven by a good driver gets lumped with less than optimum tyres. I gues that comes from tyres being the last thing to do after a rebuild, the kitty will be at shake it and scrape level and if they look like they'll pass scrutineering then fuel will win out.

Why would they put a chevy eng in this car being a Ford

    • @DrZiplok

Because brand loyalty is dumb, and racers care more about stuff that works.

I cannot believe you have this car I was 4 or 5 year old and this movie and that car changed my perspective of the world. I wanted this car so bad and as a kid I thought this was a Porsche for the longest time. But when I found it was a Capri and it had a Mustang 302 that's when my 5.0 obsession came in effect. I cant believe you have this car. I was thinking of taking a same model escort put a 5.0 302 in it and try to bondo or mold a kit man it my dream car man take care or Beula she's a tough girl but she can take a beating. Bring her to the Mazda speedway (Laguna Secca) or to my home track V.I.R or hell bring her to where me and Beula can reunite Bring her to Martinsville speedway or even closer to the 311 RACEWAY YEA Ill see you there LMAO nice nice man im happy for you

A FORD with a Chevy in it? Put it thru the car crusher and then the shredder.
