Thanks for this! It might be a stretch but could you say that Malcolm could possibly become a tyrant as well, or that he'll be connected to the witches in the future? The witches say 'Hail Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter' and later on the people say 'Hail' to Malcolm as well, which I guess could show a possible connection? Furthermore, each male main character makes a catastrophic decision/action, so Shakespeare could be subtly hinting at this.

Definitely. That's a good point. Our corruptibility is a major theme of Shakespeare's. The Coen Brothers' version of Macbeth is much darker and explicitly explores what you just mentioned. The 1979 Casson/Nunn version (my fav) is closer to what Shakespeare had in mind though, I believe. So much evidence that Malcolm is aware of the dangers of power, which is not to say he won't succumb later. Power corrupts, and all that:) Thanks for the insights, Gauri.
