Robert palmer, the gentleman singer. He could sing Rock, Reggae, Jazz,Soul, Pop. He was one of the first artist who used techno in his songs. R.I.P. , I cried my eyes out when he died.
Yes! This is my favorite Robert Palmer song! I prefer the original cut that appeared on his Secrets album in 1979 over the remix that appeared on Addictions: Volume 1 in 1989. The later one sounds good, but I like the more subdued sound of the original a lot more. The lead guitar has that little guitar that could sound. That in conjunction with the simple bass line is hard to beat!
Back in the day, on Halloween, me and five friends showed up at the bar in little black dresses, hair slicked back, heavy smokey eyes, really red lipstick. No smiles. Everyone in the bar knew who came as. It was a really memorable night! LOL!!!!!!!!
lol, my roommate and I did the same thing, back in 89? I think? We had a Halloween party at our apartment and this album was the soundtrack for the evening.
While you're on Robert Palmer, check out the supergroup he participated in right before this called Power Station (other members were Tony Thompson of Chic, and John Taylor & Andy Taylor of Duran Duran). Bernard Edwards of Chic produced their album and it's pretty badass. Check out "Some Like It Hot" and their cover of T Rex's "Get It On (Bang A Gong)"
I had a crush on Robert Palmer since Sneakin Sally thru the Alley came out when I was in High School. He was a player's player, enjoyed his life to the fullest, died way too young in his early '50's. I got to meet him in '88, he was with his girlfriend who he was obsessed with, his wife was back home in Switzerland with the kids. I nearly died meeting him. His voice was so powerful, his lyrics so great.
Hey, Jamel- Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley was Robert Palmer's debut solo album in 1974.. He'd been doing this with the ladies for a loooong time. Thanks for keeping blue-eyed soul alive. Hi- from Canada- love your channel- be safe, Adrienne too.
Note: Robert Palmer was a performer who made his own category. 😀 The women in these videos, starting with "Addicted to Love", were meant to make fun of the convention of having women in videos for no other reason than to be pretty ornaments. But by this 3rd video, it was out of control. Beautiful women were his trademark, so he leaned into it. He was talented AND media savvy. 😉
When my daughter was little and we watched this on Much Music she said,” that man is so lucky. “. I asked why and she said it was because he had so many pretty daughters
Brother "J.J." I love your reaction videos. I've subscribed to many on youtube, but you are, hands down, my favorite go to for reactions. You are just too cool. Stay real my brother. PEACE!!!
Can we also add "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" as well just for good measure? It's a cover of a Cherrelle song, with a funky, FUNKY bass line & Palmer's vocals are smokin' hot. :)
I was really lucky to see Robert Palmer live in concert (Manchester, England) when this album came out. He had these young ladies on the stage with him at one point. Great reaction video as always 👍
He got so much blowback from his previous video(addicted to love) that he (as a typical Brit from those days) said eff-you and did this video. Good isn't it ? :)
Gotta do his 1979 hit ,"Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)" Robert died fairly young at the age of 54 in Paris France from a sudden heart attack. The dude was a heavy smoker. It's said he smoked as many as 60 cigarettes a day.
This reaction was laugh out loud hilarious! Thank you Jamel! I never noticed how much fun the dancers were having trying to keep a straight face doing all those goofy moves!
Not only is “she’s so fine, there’s no tellin where the money went” an INSANELY great set of lyrics...his delivery on that is SMOOTH. Plus it’s 100% accurate for us dudes- we know how it goes 😂 gotta keep our ladies satisfied

Robert Palmer was in a band with Elkie Brooks called Vinegar Joe. They were never particularly successful on record but hugely popular live. Palmer went solo and eventually carved out a career by doing what he wanted to do, except by doing it really well.

This is one of those songs you turn up in the car while driving alone on the highway and sing as loud as you can.
This is such a fun song. But it's also very musically complex. The silences, the transitions, the beat changes.
Plus, the lyrics required rhyming words quite a bit longer than typical.
