I agree. Such songs as "If", "Make it with You", "Diary, " Baby I'm-a Want You"" are just a few to start with. However, they have so many more out there it's really hard to pick just a few to recommend.
Beautiful song. I was about 10-12 when it came out. Always gets me. So beautiful. I never knew what it was about. I just told my mom (I am visiting her for xmas) that I am going to make dinner for her tonight. :) Thanks for the reminder of taking care of our parents and not taking them for granted. You never know what can happen.
I love this whole album of Bread This song came out in 1972 I was a freshman in high school.David Gates is the singer . Many great songs ,Make it with you,Baby I'm a want you, Diary, ❤️⭐
I'm crying. My dad has been gone for years. I am honestly just able to selfishly miss him. I spent years angry. He was only 65, when he died in his sleep. It was so unfair. To him. Finally able to rest, and enjoy grandkids and fishing. Pet his cows. Pick his fruit. Play poker with his buddies. Not fair. But, we loved each other, shared our secrets, even when it was hard, and I wish he was sitting with me now, having a cold beer, and talking about stars, or oceans, or mountains. Merry Christmas, and happy holidays, everyone.
🌸 I had a very difficult childhood and was really not loved by my mother.... when I had my own children I vowed that I would love them with everything I had and I listened to the song and I hope I hope that I have succeeded in letting them know how much they are loved and how beautiful they are
Love this song. Lost my dad in 1996. It reminds me so much of him. Lost my mom in Feb of this year. it's been the worst year of my life. My closest friends are gone as well as all of my grandparents. It sux to feel completely alone on earth. Treasure them while you have them.
I'm so sorry for you and I can relate. Buried mom in October, then my 72 year old brother on his birthday on Nov 6. It's so hard losing everyone, you feel alone, shit same thing I'm feeling. I pray for you I tell you to hang on, even if for their memories. Love ya brother. Peace from Northern Michigan
@@garyzink1927 That's sad, I Pray for you also. You hang in too...I often listen to REM's song, Everybody Hurts, it helps to hang on.. Peace for you and Merry Christmas
YES ❤I would give anything to hear those annoying little things my Mama did, I would gladly take them if I could see her smile and hear her tell me she loves me again ❤I seriously have bittersweet tears in my eyes right now, she should be getting ready for her birthday on December 27 so I miss her extra at Christmas but I know she’s in Heaven and she is not in pain anymore so I’m happy for her for that part. Love you, Mama!
Loved listening to this in my bean bag during college in the 70's. Now i listen to it and miss my mom, dad, brother, grandparents, aunts and uncles who have passed since then. My dad told me in the 80's don't get older. Your reactions and insight is beyond your years. Call your grandparents tomorrow, hug your parents asap. Peace and Merry Christmas from Northern Michigan.
So glad you now know of Bread. They were the first emo band and have yet to be dethroned. Might I recommend "Make it With You". A timeless classic with ever needed good vibes.
David Gates was the songwriter and singer here. He had a talent for ballads but had a few rockers as well. Check out 'Mother Freedom' and 'Let Your Love Go' for more up tempo. 'Guitar Man', 'Diary', 'if'.... many more for ballads. You might also like 'Christina Aguilera - Hurt' from 2006 a 'Linda Perry' song about the loss of a loved one. Great tune Cheers.
Such a touching song! David Gates wrote this song in memory of his father who died in 1963 & never saw the success he achieved with Bread. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "If", "Make It With You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "The Guitar Man", "Sweet Surrender", "Aubrey", "Diary" etc. In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".
Shon, you're so wise and soulful for being so young. "If" is a beautiful song, simple and short but so powerful. And for a slightly different take on Bread.... check out "Guitar Man." Happy Holidays! 🎄
Glad you researched this song to know he wrote it for his Dad. Most people assume it was written regarding a lost or broken romantic love. It makes a difference knowing the context.
You are blessed! I've lost all my grandparents, my parents, two babies, my best friend and two husbands! Please tell them all how much you love them NOW!!!!
Strange. I was just thinking about my dead. So many. And I'm not old. I'm not even 60 yet. Kids, when I was young, from suicide, or overdose, or crashes. Alcoholics. Heart attacks. The list seems endless. They,(family, doctors) tell me I have PTSD. Depression. I think thats bullshit. What are they thinking? Roses and sunshine? In my case, i just want to cry once in a while, because they deserve it, and its all I can give.
I thought my parents were immortal...until they weren't. I've been missing them every day since 2001. At least I know they loved me deeply and they knew that I loved them back, just as deeply.
Bread was very popular when I was in grade school. I love their music and always will. "If", "Make It With You, are two more good ones, they had so many. I think David Gates wrote this song about his father after he passed away.
bread was a bit saccharin for me as a kid but this was their one song that really touched me. "if" is probably their biggest hit but this song melodically and structurally is timeless.
Bread is a whole rabbit hole worth of wonderful soft rock music.
Bread was one of my favorites back in the day!! They have a greatest hits album and every song is fantastic!! Please play more Bread songs!!!❤❤❤

You have to hear their songs Baby I’m a want you, I want to make it with you and guitar man also If I loved them in the seventies and still do ❤
They sang Make it with you, just as beautiful
Such a heartwarming song, thanks Shon
One of the softest soft bands! Very popular in the early '70s. ✌️❤️🤟🥁
"If" is a beautiful Bread song.
You're taking recommendations from the right people!

If you loved this one… check out “Diary”- what a story in a song!
Probably my favorite bread song. :)
Love that song
Best of a Bread album is jam packed with incredible songs. Check it out. And David Gates has a stunning voice.
Beautiful lyrics

"Diary" and "This isn't what the Government" are two of my favorite songs by Bread.

My absolute favorite song by Bread. Time is precious and fleeting. Make your words & actions count while those you love are STILL here!
Absolutely 💯 fire
This i a beautiful song, he wrote it about his dad who died when he was in high school I never met anyone who cannot relate to this song
Bread were soft rock kings in their day, they had a pile of hits.
David gates, the only remaining original member lives about 30 miles from me on his cattle ranch.

Perhaps my favorite Bread song is “If.”
YES!
2:38 Bread ..is such a great band. 😭 Everytime I hear this one. All their stuff is deep 🙏
ive listened to alot of your reactions, loved every one of them...... thank you
Apparently, he wrote the song for his father after he passed away.
Did you listen to Shon's intro??
I lost my momma 4 yrs ago to colon cancer and this song hits me in my feels every time. ❤ Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🎄
Thanks Shon. Great reaction. Please check out Make it with you next.

Nice blast from the past Shon 😎 PEACE
One of my favorite songs is by Bread. I literally cry every time I hear it. It's called "If"
Gets me every time. Thanks for the video.
Shon, you're so wise and soulful for being so young. "If" is a beautiful song, simple and short but so powerful. And for a slightly different take on Bread.... check out "Guitar Man." Happy Holidays! 🎄
Do "Guitar Man". I never knew this song was about him losing his father. That makes this song more powerful. Thanks for the added information.
This whole album is fantastic and I know you would love it!
My good man, I love your reactions and honesty 😎The music of my youth
Underrated band. Have 3 or 4 absolute classics.
You nailed this song
Glad you researched this song to know he wrote it for his Dad. Most people assume it was written regarding a lost or broken romantic love. It makes a difference knowing the context.
Spend time with your parents. Put the remote down, put the phone down, and spend some real time with your parents while they’re still here.
You are blessed! I've lost all my grandparents, my parents, two babies, my best friend and two husbands! Please tell them all how much you love them NOW!!!!

Luv bread
Live version of Tom Waits ' Martha's or 'Diamonds on my windshield ' or anything from him in the early years
Diary, you could react to Bread for a month. On of my favorite groups ever.
Check out Unfinished Symphony by Massive Attack
bread was a bit saccharin for me as a kid but this was their one song that really touched me. "if" is probably their biggest hit but this song melodically and structurally is timeless.
It could apply to anyone you have lost or broken connections to people.
I wore out my Best of Bread 8-Track tape lol.
My first suggestion would be their song 'If'.
🌸 I think these guys were mad talented but I have such a hard time listening to their music cuz I always cry LOL
David Gates' message is one we all need to strive to fulfill. This Bread is food your soul.
That song is for Real
🔥🔥🔥🔥

You should check out Leo Sayer singing When I Need You
You definitely need to check out the diary
Bro you should hear total eclipse of the heart
It’s hard for me to ever listen to this without getting a big lump in my throat
I never associated this song to be about death I seen it as a breakup song. Now I feel sad.
Try mother freedom by Bread
Please do David Gates "Goodbye Girl".
