I love this song. Robert Palmer’s gimmick of the background band worked miracles for him. It put him over the top fame wise. He was a total turn on with clothes sharper than razors and a stare that would stop you dead in your tracks. He dropped dead from a heart attack in his early 50s. He did another song with the girls backing him named “Simply Irresistible”. You will like it! I love Robert Palmer.

I’ve been married for 35 years. One of the funniest things happened connected to this song. Like 30 years ago, I came home one day and when I walked up to the house this song was blaring!!!! I walked in and my husband was dancing in the living room “like no one was watching”. I just stood there until he turned when he was dancing and saw me. It was hilarious.

This was huge in the MTV generation. The song is great mostly because of the video. But Palmer was really talented and has a great collection of songs.
Rolling Stone magazine voted Palmer the best-dressed rock star for 1990! He wanted the music to shine through without anything getting in the way. Growing up surrounded by military uniforms, he thought a simple suit - his uniform, would mean the focus would be firmly on the music. “I just always felt comfortable in a suit and tie,” Palmer said.

Robert had a lot of songs in the mid to late 70's. Johnny and Mary, Sneaking Sally Through The Alley, Every Kind of People, Bad Case of Loving You. In the 80's he really came into prominence with this song, Simply Irresistible, and then joined former members of Duran Duran for a supergroup called Power Station and had aa couple of great hits- Some Like it Hot, Get it On (Bang a Gong). Definitely worth checking more out!
This was a big hit on MTV and on the radio for Robert Palmer. He also did a song called "Simply Irresistable" with the same theme for the video. But, early on Robert Palmer had some bangers with the likes of: "Bad Case of Loving You" "Every Kind of People" "Riptide" "Some Like It Hot" and then with the Power Station he had hits with: Lonely Tonight" "Get It On" and a few others. He had an amazing voice, for sure.
This video truly captured a moment of the 80's, and DEFINITELY set Robert Palmer up for LIFE! LOL And good on him, he was a hard worker of his trade, it was nice to see him hit it big with this one and get the recognition he deserved.
I have read reports over the years about Robert Palmer and they all have a recurring theme. Everyone who worked with him said he was an insane perfectionist and the nicest person they ever met. I loved this song and video when it was first released and I still do. Wish I had met him. RIP Robert.

Robert Palmer's music in the 70s was a lot more bluesy rock and was very good. These videos he made in the 80s were iconic, for better or worse. This is his legacy, but the music is still good.
My favorite Robert Palmer Song(s) are his trilogy. Consisting of the songs "Sailin' Shoes," "Hey Julia" and "Sneakin' Sally through the Alley." It's an amazing set piece.

From what I heard, Robert Palmer recorded the song in front of a green screen. He had no idea that the director of the video would insert the "girl band" behind him. This was intentional, as the director wanted Robert to give an authentic performance with no "distractions". This is what adds to the iconic nature of this video. 😂

Boy did you get that one wrong. The actual story is that Palmer was 'instructed' by his record company to use women as prop's to glamorise his records. He poked two fingers up at the record company by filming this as a parody. Shania Twain's song and video is a parody of a parody. Something that seems to be lost on some.

Robert Palmer is possibly the most underrated artist of all time; one of the few legends of my lifetime that I never saw live. The original version of 'Every Kinda People' is one of the top 5 songs ever recorded, for me.
i knew robert palmer's guitarist, donovan mckitty, in 1980, before this song came out, when donovan was in a band with bass player, charlie tumahi, ex be bop de luxe & nicko mcbrain, ex trust & soon to be iron maiden's drummer!

THE POWER STATION were a Brit-American 1980s/1990s rock/pop music supergroup originally formed in NYC & London in 1984. Made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar).[1] Bernard Edwards, also of Chic, was involved on the studio side as recording producer. 👍🥂

Robert had a lot of songs in the mid to late 70's. Johnny and Mary, Sneaking Sally Through The Alley, Every Kind of People, Bad Case of Loving You. In the 80's he really came into prominence with this song, Simply Irresistible, and then joined former members of Duran Duran for a supergroup called Power Station and had aa couple of great hits- Some Like it Hot, Get it On (Bang a Gong). Definitely worth checking more out!

This was a big hit on MTV and on the radio for Robert Palmer. He also did a song called "Simply Irresistable" with the same theme for the video. But, early on Robert Palmer had some bangers with the likes of: "Bad Case of Loving You" "Every Kind of People" "Riptide" "Some Like It Hot" and then with the Power Station he had hits with: Lonely Tonight" "Get It On" and a few others. He had an amazing voice, for sure.
Palmer is terrific. Love his vibe and voice.

I have read reports over the years about Robert Palmer and they all have a recurring theme. Everyone who worked with him said he was an insane perfectionist and the nicest person they ever met. I loved this song and video when it was first released and I still do. Wish I had met him. RIP Robert.

Robert Palmer's music in the 70s was a lot more bluesy rock and was very good. These videos he made in the 80s were iconic, for better or worse. This is his legacy, but the music is still good.
One of the ways you know this was/is a big hit is that Weird Al Yankovic did a parody 'You're Addicted to Spuds'. I love both Robert's and Al's songs.
My favorite Robert Palmer Song(s) are his trilogy. Consisting of the songs "Sailin' Shoes," "Hey Julia" and "Sneakin' Sally through the Alley." It's an amazing set piece.

From what I heard, Robert Palmer recorded the song in front of a green screen. He had no idea that the director of the video would insert the "girl band" behind him. This was intentional, as the director wanted Robert to give an authentic performance with no "distractions". This is what adds to the iconic nature of this video. 😂

Holding down the all-important beat is the Chic rhythm section, Edwards on bass and Tony Thompson on drums - the same guys who inadvertently built the foundation of hip-hop when the rhythm track of Chic’s “Good Times” was incorporated into Sugarhill Gang’s 1979 hit “Rapper’s Delight,” the first widely popular rap song. Thompson (who also worked with Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” album) plays a thwacking two-four rhythm - showing off with an open hi-hat flourish on the three that gives the song one of its key hooks - cranked up to booming volume in the way that only ‘80s drums can be, and makes it crunch even harder by playing as far behind the beat as humanly possible. Edwards makes this slow and very stompy song dance with a simple but amazingly funky bassline that anchors the riff while also making it elastic (his bassline dances exponentially better than the models in the video). This song was sold by the video and yes the music is great. His breakthrough came in 1978 with (Doctor, Doctor....) Bad Case of Loving You. That was an insane instant smash and remains a classic to this day. R I. P. I can only imagine the great music you'd still be making if you were with us. His next song you should react to... the one titled Simply Irresistible off of the same CD.

Good music is good music, no matter the genre. I ve been to rock concerts, country concerts, honkytonks to dance the Texas two step, the Cotton-eyed Joe, waltz, line dance,etc. Back in the 60s I went to parties to twist, mashed potato,jerk,pony….all kinds of dances. Makes me sad I’ve gotten to old to do any of it! Live life! Getting old is not for sissies! LOL
Your observations about the women not playing the guitar, are exactly correct... which is why Shania did what she did. She is all about girl power & wanted to point out the ridiculousness of using pretty faces like they are props, instead of humans.
Boy did you get that one wrong. The actual story is that Palmer was 'instructed' by his record company to use women as prop's to glamorise his records. He poked two fingers up at the record company by filming this as a parody. Shania Twain's song and video is a parody of a parody. Something that seems to be lost on some.

Robert Palmer is possibly the most underrated artist of all time; one of the few legends of my lifetime that I never saw live. The original version of 'Every Kinda People' is one of the top 5 songs ever recorded, for me.

It's an absolute classic from the late great Robert Palmer. He used 'no reaction' models because he felt women were being used as sex objects in music videos of the day, and this was his way of highlighting the problem. RIP Robert Palmer, gone way to soon (like so many others) 🙋♂

Robert Palmer was a soft blues artist, Died of a bad heart. But you could do a deep dive on him. He also was part of power station which did a remake of T-Rex Bang-a-gong and harvest for the world was an excellent tune!
