- The Shelby F-150 Super Snake ($114,030 in the US), the Rivian R1S Quad Motor AWD ($124,500 in Canada, $92,000 in the US) and the Lamborghini Urus ($256,986 in Canada, $229,495 in the US) are lined up for a drag and roll race at Willow Springs International Raceway. The Rivian R1S has the power and torque advantage at 845 hp and 908 lb ft, but it is also the heaviest by a significant margin. Can a 775 horsepower supercharged Shelby take down both a powerful EV and a twin turbocharged Lamborghini? Honestly kind of surprising how close the Shelby was considering the tires, lift kit, and terrible aerodynamics it would have, lol. The Rivian's weight is almost absurd and it is still quick on the acceleration.

@Justin Ferreira Sure, they just aren't nearly as aggressive. People underestimate how fast electric vehicles are, if the Rivian didn't have the limiter (or possibly it was the top motor rpm) it wouldn't have been close. I just didn't expect the F-150 to perform this well.

They are from Canada and it's winter, you can't really set lap times in cold / snow and keep it fair. I'm sure it will all come back in the spring
It's because their Canadian (Eh!) the track that they use is covered in Snow/ice/wet during the winter (wet during summer too!) so can't do true track times until spring/summer/fall time. That's when you'll see more track times and track comparos. But I still like them at Willow Springs in the desert over there in California! Seems to be their home away from home!

Rivian is one of the biggest deals in the history of the automobile. Too bad they can't make them quick enough. For the price and what you get, I can't see a good reason not to have one if you can even semi-afford it.
You do know they cost 3 times to make, than what they sell them for. Great deal for one, but in a year or so, they will run out of their cash reserves, and will either go bankrupt or be bought out... and it will be changed so that ot can be sold just over cost.
@@copperkeyracing6167 Oh yes. I'm familiar with their financial situation. I'm not speaking to the viability of the company. But economies of scale, that will come in line, if they can make it. However, as a product, it's phenomenal.

@@user-lg5uh8sr3d How did it sound fake? The Shelby sounded like a stock F150 with a 5.0, it was muffled and had rev hang, which we both know is not natural. Same as the burbles on the Urus, both in the tune.
Urus sounded much better. The same gen ecoboost Raptor sounded better than this Shelby 😂

I wonder how this would go if they were all on the same tire? Maybe the Rivian would be further ahead. Excellent video, as always.
Rivian technically has a sort of Launch Control, just hold the brake pedal down and hold the accelerator down all the way then release the brake (pretty much how most other LC works). It doesn't acknowledge it like other cars (so may be a placebo) but does feel quicker off the line from my experience (source, own an R1S). Wonder if it would have made any difference.
Also, kind of happy the R1S comes with a limiter as the speed is frightening when paired with the size.

Agreed. I’m a ford truck owner and a CARROLL Shelby fan. But these trucks are all just an abomination. A blight on the road and a joke that the driver is not in on.
@@upshifter5316 it's a 6000+ lbs lifted truck on super heavy off road rims and tyres. It did very well considering all that. I think the lowered, on road version would've done much much better though. The platform is also extremely capable. When built for drag or roll racing, the single cab trucks that weigh around 4500-5000lbs are deep into the 8sec quarter mile range. A LOT faster than a model S Plaid. No matter how much you mod an Urus or R1T, they're never gonna be breaking into the 9s, let alone the 8 sec barrier. The engine, gearbox and awd system are super stout and can handle a lot of power stock. Check out Midnight performance on UA-cam and some of the trucks they've built. They're absolutely insane
@@joaquinpaul8205 I'm definitely familiar with the potential of the platform, including Beto & his gang's work on them. I think that specifically is why I find the Shelby incarnations so disappointing. All Show and no Go. Tiny blower (relative), conservative tuning, heavy tires. And whoever decided that a lift kit and a ground effects kit belong on the same vehicle needs their head examined. Roush is guilty of the same.
@@upshifter5316 yeah the Shelbys are often sold direct from the showroom floor with a warranty so they keep the tune extremely conservative, that's the issue. Other than this lifted example, they also sell a lowered, street spec truck. That would've been a much better match for the street spec Urus and R1T

I would love to see video on what is the ratio range to speed. I've seen lot's of Tesla cars on autobahn but haven't seen one going quicker than 130kmh. I wonder why ?:)
Drag force is is velocity squared times a bunch of vehicle specific constants.
So double the speed gives you 1/4th the normal range.
Which also means that 130kph gets you places the fastest on long journeys

Aerodynamic drag is a thing for literally everything and how it behaves regarding changes in velocity is also the same ruleset for everything.
So ICE vehicles also have 4 times the drag and energy usage when speed is doubled. Except they also get additional inefficiencies at low speed and high speed due to needing to keep the engine running and shitty gearing respectively.
So an ice vehicle also has a quarter the range at 140mph as it does at 70mph assuming a somewhat reasonable engine and gearing.
@@enjoyvride This is true for ICE cars too. At a certain speed you lose as much time with extra gas stops as you gain by going faster.

I would be interested in knowing how the 2 door F150 awd Shelby supersnake street truck would do against these 2? There is a red one at my local Ford dealer (Ricart Ford), and it's such a deal right now. MSRP $112,440, marked down to $105,440. I just have to sell my house to buy it.

I'd like to see the Shelby and dodge trx race. That Shelby is amazing. Did a great job for its heavy weight and wide aero being how it is. I'd choose it over all of them lol
The old one beat the TRX but that was the lowered version. I doubt this one could beat it because it's significantly slower than it's Supersbake F150 counterparts.

Was the Rivian launched via the brake pedal? Or did he mash the throttle to launch?? It makes a difference in feel for me for sure, not sure how it would affect the time.
If you had launched the R1S with both pedals like you're supposed to I don't think it would have been nearly as close. Nothing launches more brutally than an R1T/S. It literally feels like a roller coaster. I'll do a launch video this week for sure.
they probably did, rivian goes 0-60 in 3, lambo generally does it in 3.2 from standstill, so it is bound to be close

Was the R1S able to do these back to back drag races or did you have to charge it in-between. I know the harder you use it the more battery it uses. So I'm curious how much battery life was used.
