Growing up in Chicago in the 1970s I remember turning on channel 44 after school for some made in Japan awesomeness. - Фільми й анімація
Giant robot was my absolute favorite TV show back in the 70s. When I was 6 or 7, I would sneak off to my friend's house to watch it because my mother would only allow us to watch 1 hour of TV in the house and only after we practiced the piano for 30 minutes. LOLL... the good old days
The only thing missing was Prince Planet, who was also on Channel 44.
But this was the seventies in Chicago and I loved it.
One word for those of us that were devoted to these programs.....Stingray !!! Marina , aquamarina. **giggle* i look back and think just hiw did i not see the strings.😂.
Nothing beats Japanese produced retro sci-fi TV.
Ultraman was on channel 52 when I was growing up in 1970
My dog is the reincarnation of Johnny Sokko's Giant Robot. You should see him when he goes into full missile attack or power punch mode.
I also grew up in Chicago in the 70s. When I went to school in Texas in 85, I was shocked at just how few people got my references. Chicago, NYC and L.A. were probably the only markets with so many viewing options in the 70s.
We got most of them in the San Francisco Bay Area as well. The only show I don't recall seeing is Spectreman.
I'm from Nw Indiana
At the time I lived in Beckley West Virginia and I ran home everyday to watch Space Giants in the 70’s when I was in 1st grade.
I know right...I would be at my grandparents up there and watched all these religiously...was it WGN or channel 44 Chicago?
I so much remember watching this in the early mornings before school 🏫! Early to mid 80’s yup 👍🏻
Oh my God this took me back!!!!!! Thanks sooooo much! I forgot all about Spectreman and that killer theme song hahahaha!
You can thank the obscure band Mystic Moods Orchestra's song First Day of Forever for the theme. The producers just took the music and added expository lyrics to it. The man responsible for the dub was Mel Welles,an actor who had played Mr Mushnick in the original Little Shop of Horrors, and some of his humor bled into the translation.
This was my all time favorite, love it
I had all the action figures, 300 of them, from the early 70s.
“Robot, destroy that Dracula!” Fantastic! Love it!
Draculon.
I remember this tv cartoon show yup
OMG...Johnny Sokko. Totally forgot about this. It's been about 45 years and I found myself knowing those arm movements before Giant Robot executed them. This was the best stuff to watch until Star Wars totally changed the playing field.
Watched this when I was younger oh yeah!
And the techno music including the revised version!
Channel 44 Chicago . They sold it in the lower 80s and it became Telemundo.
90s 80s 70s good ol days 👍🏽😎💙
Old is gold 🥀
I grew up in the Chicago area in the 1970s. I remeber all these shows! Spectreman was my favorite!
Nothing beats Ultraman
@@5spec well good for you!
@@sherribragg2701 then did you not see my comment, Stingray on channel 44.
Show this to the generation of today this was way before Power Rangers and all those other tv shows that were live!
LOL!! I remember that ep of Johnny Sokko when Giant Robo fought a vampire that grew giant-size and used a shield! Where the hell did Robo get two weapons specifically to battle a vampire? He used "The Star" and "The Cross!" He just happened to pull the perfect weapons out of his metal ass, never seen prior and never to be seen again!
Spectreman is completely new to me.
13:20, it’s the truth. Listen to the message.
Speed Racer - hell yeah!! Car Hater was quite a psychological thriller:;
(I felt bad for the bad guy, watch episode and you'll see why he got driven mad)
It was on Fox!
Be awesome if Mill Creek was able to distribute Space Giants and Spectreman like they have with Ultraman and Ultra Q,and they plan on releasing the follow up Ultra Series as well.
Be awesome if they just made all this 60s and 70s stuff public domain and available for free to everyone. :)
yukuzo shouri no goru made mahha go go go !
9:30 This is nothing. I use to come home from school and my younger brothers
would be wrestling in their underwear in the front room and usually had already broken several things
after throwing each other across the room. If they had been 50 feet tall all of Tokyo would have been destroyed.
😝😂😂😂 i remember it ALL!!! 😂😂
Whole South American countries got that going on television during 70’s especially Venezuela and Mexico.
That would explain all the clips on UA-cam dubbed in Spanish. :)
Some of these shows would have amazing reboots for US TV(especially 7:54 I feel they could dp a lot with that0
i found a shop and besides the new stuff it sells it also has some really reeeeally old stickers at the back, I shit u not I found ultraman stickers and I am in love with them (I live in Europe ao I don't know how did they even get here😭)
The only 2 things out of this that made it full time to American TV would've been Johnny Sakko but, it was a compiled episode movie known as "Voyage into Space" & the "Dracula" wasn't featured.
Other than that, Speed Racer.
I do recall one vague episode of one of the Ultraman things, or, it could've been the Japanese version of Spiderman (?) Not sure because I think both had a thing about capsule monsters & whichever hero had one that had some kind of acidic spit on them in an episode & that's all I remember. ( It was on when I was 5 years old back in 1970)
After this, whichever it was, it got removed & for a tiny bit, you had Gigantor on prior to Speed Racer.
The Johnny Sakko series ended up on Creature Double Feature around the 70's so, it took a bit for it to make its way over.
After that, one had to wait for a lot of really cool Japanese anime / manga to be here, like the "golion" version of Voltron or the other with the cars, this was preceeded by the Gobots & for a short period of time, The Shogun Warriors.
I think the only one that kept getting a remake was the "Gatchaman" series which started off as "G Force" & later became "Battle of the planets".
I'd say by the 80's or so is when we had the Battleship Yamato / STARBLAZERS series which was fun & eventually, a live action version from Japan came out on DVD over here but missed out on how the Gamelons looked & screwed up a few other key moments.
In between these things, we did it end up with a lot of the Godzilla & Gamera flicks thanks to Creature Double Feature & a very short lived "Ulysses" cartoon which got replaced by the Golion & multicar Voltron series.
Of course, you can't leave out Transformers or eventually Pacific Rim 1 & 2.
Supposedly, there's a live action GAIKING somewhere but It's yet to make it here, same idea for a MUCH BETTER QUALITY Gamera movie which I saw trailers for & a live action Gatchaman as well.
How about the rest of the various Ultraman series, (from the 70s) Also Iron King (Iron Shock!) Super Robot Red Barron !
Iron King is extremely underrated
Ultra man! And Godzilla!
Don't forget Gamera! :)
Thank you for that!! I watched them all, never seems spectre man. But for years I was trying to remember the name of the show with Goldar. Thank you!!!
ありがとう
He believes in Jess!!
Wow
Gorilla is a monster
What's that one Japanese show? it had a girl and boy. The girl had a red and white suit and the show was kind of like power rangers.
I just noticed they're not wearing seat belts
00:40 yo we just watched someone fucking die
9:07 lol
Where's Battle of the Planets?
It was 79-80. Loved that show.
Who is the guy from the thumbnail from?
Ultraman
Speed racer was a French it was from France
Speed Racer, also known as Mach GoGoGo (Japanese: マッハGoGoGo, Hepburn: Mahha GōGōGō), is a Japanese media franchise about automobile racing. Mach GoGoGo was originally serialized in print in Shueisha's 1966 Shōnen Book. It was released in tankōbon book form by Sun Wide Comics, and later re-released in Japan by Fusosha. Adapted into anime by Tatsunoko Productions, its 52 episodes aired on Fuji TV from April 1967 to March 1968. The anime was later re-broadcast on Tokyo MX from July 1 to September 25, 2008.
