My mom came to live with me at the end of her life. She was so special. She had dementia and would physically attack me occasionally.
The way I took care of my mom is the single best thing I have ever done. It was pure love.

Kyle where did you come from? What a blessing you are. Having gone through this myself I can only imagine the stress that is on your shoulders. I don’t know if this story will be of any help so I offer it with great respect to you. At the age of 45 my sister was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - we were completely blindsided - absolutely did not see this coming. She fought with everything that she had, however, she never addressed the fact that she might not make it. Never wanted to talk about it and we respected her decision. She chose to tell her 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter, that she would beat this and that everything would be fine. Sadly it was not to be. After 9 months we lost her. It was a shock to me to see how very angry her children were. They felt that she had lied to them and hadn’t fought hard enough. It took us a long time to change their thinking and anger. Obviously your situation is very different and all of us out here are praying for Jenny. She seems to be getting first class care, as she should. Stay well ❤❤

Everyone who says "therapy can't help me" must have a very clear idea of what therapy is, what their problem is and what intervention it will respond to. That'd be an amazing level of insight and I'd be very curious where that person obtained it from.

I love what you are saying Kyle. I am a caregiver for my husband who has been diagnosed with a terminal cancer almost 2 years ago. For the first 18 months I felt I was living in a fight or flight mode. I have started to try to change my mindset to as you say live for now this moment . It works sometimes which is a lot better than where my head was 6 months ago. We are on a similar road as yourself and Jenny hoping that the treatment keeps working and for the most we live as normal as we can in between the every 4 week visit to the oncologist. You and Jenny have been so real it helps people like me more than you know . We don't feel so alone. You are right life still goes on no matter what is thrown at us so one foot forward one step at a time is how I'm trying to deal now. It does work what you are saying . Stop breathe think and then deal with what's in front of you now. Thank you and Jenny for everything for being the amazing people you are. Love from ireland. Keep this channel going Kyle it is so needed by people like me. Xx

That was very good, Kyle. I was listening to this without my headphones and my husband overheard it - he’s home with the flu and is a neuro psychiatrist - he said you mean you’ve had an “epiphany”. That most negative thoughts can be turned into positives which dials down the autonomic nervous system into more of an inner calm. Therefore your behavior to yourself is kinder, and your behavior towards others radiates a calmness and serenity. However, sometimes stress will overwhelm you and you need to talk to either those closest to you, or to someone not involved in your current situation - that’s the self love part. Basically, life is stressful for all of us but it’s how we deal with it that makes a difference. Many prayers to you and Jenny 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Hi Kyle, thank you so so much for speaking about such an important subject. I truly believe that you speaking about this is healing within itself. prayers it helps others. As it is a huge “Play” in our attitude and and our behavior. heavy and can easily get caught up in resentment, run down and exhaustion. When we listen to our inner self, we need to take a step back and realize like you said” it’s ok to get frustrated and or aggravated, but speak with kindness and get it done. Thank You Holy Spirit for helping kind words to speak instead of snappy ones. As a care giver, you have so very much put on your plate and most times don’t get acknowledged for all the “Extra You do”. Which is ok, but sometimes it’s nice to thanked. Like u said we are all human. Thank you so much for talking about this Kyle. I truly feel that it’s helping soo many caregivers out there that so needed it. 🙏🙏❤️‍🩹. Great subject.

My dad had non small cell lung cancer .( diagnosed at advanced stage 4 ) I wish I’d heard this 3 1/2 years ago . You are nailing it ! My mom was the main caregiver of my dad . But since I’m the sibling that still lives close by to my parents ( which I’m soooo blessed to be doing ) I was able to ( oh and being able to be a stay at home mom) go over daily and soak up all the attention and smiles ♥️ and there were days I felt like I couldn’t go over there because I just didn’t have the emotional strength ( if that makes sense) to go over there with a bubbly attitude and smile . But I’d cry as I got ready and go anyways and of course when I got there all that would go away . My husband and I were literally just talking about this last night pertaining to me . Thank you sooooo much for your encouraging words . I struggle now to keep the house hold together while now keeping my mom company and helping her.( 1 bc I told my dad I would.) ) 2 I had no idea how hard this would be because the grieving process doesn’t stop after they’re gone .( and for us we grieved while he was still here) but getting up the motivation to go over to her house and help with things is actually harder than when dad was there but having a rough day . Thank you again for your wisdom and kind words ♥️I am very grateful to still have my mom earth-side with me ( I’m definitely her “ mini me” ) and I do feel honored to be able to help her daily or whatever she asks . They are such great parents it’s the least I could do . I’d tell them both at times that helping around the house and in the yard ect was absolutely the least I could do and that I’d never be able to show them enough how great ful I am ( as kids we didn’t always think this ) that they are my mom and dad .

I’m a stay at home mom of a 6 (kindergartener) year old daughter and 3 year old son. We have very little - if any - family help and I find myself angry and frustrated a lot due to being overwhelmed on a day to day basis. I’d love for someone to randomly stop by and lend a hand but it’s crickets. As much as I’ve struggled with feeling this way it’s slowly getting easier as the kids get older and more and more independent.
Your words about challenging the negative thoughts is SO helpful and something I want to remember and put into practice. I’ve also been focusing more on gratitude and it really does make a world of difference. Having a super loving and involved husband, and 2 of the greatest kids on earth and reminding myself how lucky I am makes a world of difference.

Yes, I have been there and we sure need to look after ourselves. Loved your video. ❤️ I have had relatives that made things hard for me and say get a grip because I shed a few tears as a caregiver.

So true!!!! Love this because it’s so true! What a great way to look at your response to stress. I’ve been both a caregiver and a caretaker. It’s all stressful in it’s unique individual way. This is great advice.

I loved your message of altering your negative thoughts Kyle. So helpful. I remember feeling frustrated sometimes when visiting and caring for my elderly mother. I used to get into the car after a visit and instead of feeling angry and overwhelmed I’d say out loud that I was doing my best and she really appreciated my help. It really changed my mindset and I can honestly say I have no regrets that I didn’t do my best. She passed 3 years ago and I truly truly miss her. She was a wonderful mother and I am so grateful to have had her her as my loving mother. I think it’s so important not to have any regrets in life.
You and Jenny have such a wonderful relationship that shines through. ❤

Kyle, the man, the myth, the legend! This was an amazing video. If I still lived in OC, I would get the name of your therapist. I can tell that she really has done so much for you in such a little amount of time. You are wise beyond your years. I hope my daughter finds someone as wonderful as you (she's only 24). We were having the same issues with our cat that you are having with your older dog. Our cat started peeing and pooping in the house. She's been on kitty Prozac for about three months and no more messes. For him its an anxiety issue but for your pooch it may just be because of age. Just an idea...Enjoy your dog's remaining time 🐕🐶❤ Sending my favorite family of four lots of love. Xoxo, Gayle

Kyle- I have shared this video with my daughter- not that she is a caregiver - she is 32 healthy ,pregnant with our first granchild... she tends to get overwhelmed with life at times. She is a perfectionist and no matter how I try( sensitively) to advise her- she will not "relax". Your advice on the "inner voice"is so true.
    Thank you so much.x

Very proud of you! Jenny is blessed to have you. Your gentle disposition, your strength and supportive nature, your loyalty and love as a husband and father are admirable. But I caution you to also take care of yourself too; take time for yourself. Even if it's just a short walk, or going for a swim, sitting alone and reading the newspaper. It needn't be a lengthy activity, it just needs to be YOUR time. I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers. God Bless you, Jenny and kids

Thank you Kyle. I struggle with being kind with my words or not over-reacting to messes and mistakes in our house sometimes. I love your examples because my dogs irritate me too when it feels like “one more thing”.
Hearing someone as positive and caring as you discuss your inner voice being like my inner voice makes me feel so much less alone.
I’m working on stopping and taking a breath before I respond to things.

You are so right! Lovely! This is what I teach in meditation for my cancer patients on on my channel. Stop. Take a breath. Look at the thought and how it affects you physically. Then look at the importance of the experience, look at it realistically, and learn to "respond" rather than "react". There is no magic. It is practice!. Wonderful video Kyle!!!!

I could have used this advice when I was caring for sick parents in the past. I think it's appropriate for anybody's life though no matter what stressful situation they are going through. You are an excellent teacher and explainer! I'm not sure I ever truly made the connection between my inner voice and what comes out of my mouth as a response to stressful situations. You definitely gave me a lot to think about!

Kyle you are an angel on earth. Being married to a man for close to 33 yrs, who has anger issues, the slightest thing sets him off in a rage, God picked you purposely for Jenny! I’ve walked on eggshells just with normal stresses, particularly when my children were very little. I can’t imagine being in Jenny’s position and Ellis and Winnie. Seriously you are the best!
