Example: name 10 of your favorite songs, name 10 countries you've visited, name 10 friends you had in grade school. And by the time I hit ten...I've forgotten the poison thought. Thank you so much , Mel . I am in my 60's , and through the majority of my life I've been known for my great attitude . I was also an athlete. Your comment about "mental pushups" just made me realize I hadn't "repaired" my broken spirit/mind . Please know by taking the time to share your technique, you literally saved someone . Now just as I do my physical exercise, I will add your suggestions , as well . God Bless You !
Realizing that I am not my thoughts - that I don't need to listen to them, to act on them, that I can simply observe them - is one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. Previously, I allowed my mind to keep me miserable, worried, angry - every single day. After practicing Eckhart's teachings I now only feel that way sometimes, and even then, I have a way out. I now realize that I create my own suffering. And that I can stop doing this any time I choose. I can accept this very moment as it is. Dwelling on the past leads to so much regret and resentment. Thinking about future leads to so much fear, worry and anxiety. When I live in the Now, everything is OK. And Now IS everything.
@@ElenaRata-iv5pk I have found that whenever obsessive thinking arises, it is important for me to switch to the perspective of the watcher. That way, I can simply observe the thoughts and they don't have to affect me. This is hard, of course, but the alternative is a great deal of suffering, as I am sure you know. Also, I think it is essential to develop this ability when things are good. That way, when things are difficult, I am better equipped to resist the tempation to participate in or buy into my obesssive thinking.
Dear man, you have practically saved my life. I am 74 & going through some tough times. Living in the present moment and ignoring that voice in my head that is terrified and anxious and depressed has made all the difference in the world. I binge-watch your videos. Thank you for existing.
I too am an overthinker due to a cruel childhood. Mine only strikes when I have a disagreement with my partner if she pushes me away for her own space, rejection. I keep myself busy and I'm building in my hobbies and getting out in nature and finding my own place in this world at 54. Every time I hear that voice I tell it to shut up, I visualise it and I get a spade fill it with soil and bury it, I muffle it and find something positive to do with my time, walking my dog, the gym or simply creating something with my hands. But seeing that voice as a foreign invader and burying it, focusing on the earth I bury it with and listen to the muffled sounds as the voice becomes choked and eventually buried until I can no longer hear it, then I smile and go about my day. Your not alone.
My kid has been having nightmares for 2 months, couldn't sleep by himself and told me he couldn't stop thinking about it. I was driving him at night through the city, I told him to focus on the present moment and look at the lights outside and just feel how beautiful they are, without thinking. After a while, he said it was working. Not long after that he felt in a comfortable sleep. Thank you Eckhart
how sweet , my dad did the same thing to me when i was a child and still i remember those moments and it always brings me sense of peace ,i hope your child will remember those moments forever
Dear friend, I have very strong feelings and memories about my childhoods perception, at that time I was true natural. And I remember how it was terrible, when a thinking mind of adults took away the naturalness of my being, as their thoughts and behavior shackled me in chains. And that entry into me of the thinking mind was accompanied by nightmares and horrors. Therefore, right now you are witnessing how your born magical divine child is turning into a rationally thinking being roughly shackled by adults.

@@ChristophBackhaus Is it ok to think about things that had happened before, good things, from time to time when we decide not to be present? Or is it bad if we are not present all the time?
Yeah, we can't stop thought. Some call it the 'inner voice', 'inner monologue'. I've just found out there are people who don't have an inner voice or an image in the brain. It's a condition called Aphantasia. I believe that J Krishnamurti may well have had it. I've watched aphantasiacs on UA-cam, it's amazing to hear them explain how their mind works.
This is not a good approach. By not giving attention to your inner voice, you are not able to know what’s going on. Why you react to things the way you do? In what ways your biased point of view affect those around you? Specially your loved ones. It’s best to approach this voice with wonder and curiosity. See what you learn and grow from it.
@@ivceballos true for me. I read power of now, successfully shut my inner voice off. Now i realize how important it is to have a inner life , I survived worst situations in past because I gave myself company. Lol
This should be taught in schools. I feel this is the future of education as consciousness is expanding. Thanks Eckhart for your valuable and life changing teachings 💜☀️
It works because it's distraction. It isn't healthy in the long run, though. You're choosing to focus on something that is more pleasant than your negative thoughts, and since the conscious mind more or less runs on a single thread, you're feeling fine for the time being. However, suppressed or repressed thoughts have a way of integrating into your subconscious, where they become much more permanent and difficult to deal with. Healthy distraction in small portions is fine as symptomatic treatment. That is what single-pointed meditation is: a conscious choice to dedicate all your attention to a single point of interest - your breath, your fingertips, your sensations - so that it rids your conscious mind of the capacity to focus on anything else, including the negative thoughts. Contrast that with analytical meditation, which is a holistic mindfulness of the here and now, offering an opportunity to treat the real problem. The Dalai Lama talks about the difference between these two forms of meditation.
@@regulareverydayhalfbirdguy You've hit on something I've often wondered about. At first glance, it would seem that replacing negative thoughts with positive ones is good. But positive thoughts are still "thoughts." So in other words you're saying while being positive is much better than being negative, what we really want to do is simply "be?"
@@robertandrews3055 We cannot be without thoughts. After all, it is the function of our minds to think, always. The aim of mindfulness is neither to replace certain thoughts with others, nor to let go of thinking altogether. To the contrary. It is to welcome and observe all that arises in consciousness, be it thought, emotion, or sensation, whether positive or negative - without trying to change it. Then we can simply be - not without, but _with_ all that is here - resisting nothing at all.
Another great practice which works wonders for me, and just requires a bit of imagination, is imagining you have a volume dial for your thoughts and gently turning the volume down whenever you need to. With a little practice it works wonders. Love to all ❤

Hello everbody, I was diagnosed with spasmofilia / fibromialgia last week, probably due to the high level of stress I was under for the past years (my mum passed from cancer and my daugther is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia) after years of generalized anxiety and panick attacks. It was just when I started having physicial pain and got diagnosed that I realized I had to slow down my mind, process my traumas and stop being so negative in my mind (I NEVER considered myself a negative person before, but the truth is that I always jad catastrophic thoughts on my mind). I realized about my negative mind chatter just now, when I am at my lowest. I am just hoping that the physical pain goes away little by little with this new awakening. Thanks Eckart
When I peeked into my mind the first time I was shocked to find A babbling brook When I took a closer look I saw streams of dreams I was really shaken When it dawned on me I'd just awakened Now aware I watched my mind meander Here, there and everywhere When my attention tether tightened And grew taut Now aware I breathed a mindful breath To remind myself To remain awake Instead of drifting off to sleep again In an endless flow of roaming thought
Manifestation of thought is very real, sometimes people (especially through trauma) find it very difficult to flip that switch, I've found by saying "thank you" every day, literally counting your blessings is a very good way to move forward positively. Much love to all
Thank you! I’m going through a very difficult time after a traumatic couple of years, and I keep hearing in meditation “just say thank you”! Thank you for the re-affirmation of the message.

I started listening to Tolle a few years ago; I enjoy his work. I moved to Thailand, where the people are predominantly Buddhist. I love it here. I live in an older condo in Pattaya (a 5-minute scooter ride to the beach). It is all concrete, so the rooms are quiet (I have a video of the condo). I am on the ninth floor, so the sunsets are great, and I do not have much trouble with mosquitoes or road noise. We have a large pool with a slide. There is a restaurant by the pool; most meals are 3-7 dollars. My rent is $207/month. I have a new wall unit A/C, that I run 24/7 and my electric bill is $30/month. My room is 270 square feet or 30 square meters. It has plenty of room for a single guy. I have no plans to move back to the States.
I've been told that my mind is like a dangerous neighborhood & I should not go there alone. 🙃 I've never heard of this man. He is very interesting. Love this message. 😀 This is much of what my father taught his family. ❤
How wonderful that you discovered a video of Eckhart, even 2 decades of The Power of Now, my mind continues to go to the past, we've been programmed and conditioned that way.
I listen to my breathing. Doing so redirects your focus from voice to your breath. You can't focus on both at same time. Decide to listen to breathing.
I start counting numbers but I know this is another thought, better than the negatives ones though. Do you have more ideas but paying attention to breathing?
I just started trying transcendental meditation, it's helping a lot. I'm a serious over-thinker. I just researched it, made up a 3 syllable simple word that has no meaning, and started for 20 minutes right when I wake in the morning. I sit comfortably in bed, breath in without thinking about how I'm doing it, very quietly say the word slowly as I release the air. It works! I can go longer than 20 minutes now, with no thought, and it's wonderful! I'm about to start doing it in the evenings as well. It's really calming, I need that!
Thank you!!! I concentrate on my stomach and get that tinggling in my solar plexus but can‘t stand it for long and start giggling and go back to my head then 🤨 So from now on I listen to my breathing 🙏
I wonder if concentrating in any doing, like dish washing, won't have the same awareness effect. I counter numbers just when I go to bed and can not sleep.
Thank you for making us aware. I’ve suffered from negative overthinking most of my life. It’s a great realisation that 1) I’m not alone 2) it’s linked to the atmosphere I live in 3) I can change it. Lots of work to be done, but becoming aware of how my inner voice affects my life is a step on the way. Also enjoy reading these positive and self aware comments - unusual here on YT, but a testament to your positive influence on people. Thank you again for posting these talks here.
The reason that it is easier to focus on negativity isn't because we are predisposed, precisely, inasmuch as the brain and ego is combing thru the details to figure out how to avoid the direct and associated pain of what happened. And because we have primal, generational patterns that are traumatic, we stay in victim/survival spiral. The brain recognizes patterns. When we change the "algorithm" of our lives, we change our 'vibration' and align ultimately with the vibration we prefer. It's challenging tho! And consciousness is very key to stop that primal brain cycle of fight/flight (victim/survival mode) and change the patterns. Thank you for your perspective on this, Eckart. I am grateful for you.
Somehow simply listening to Elkharts theories, as if by osmosis, has helped me to be calm and much less reactive in my relationships. It’s a beautiful thing.
I'm enjoying this journey so much! I appreciate people like Eckhart Tolle helping myself and others to find ourselves! I'm teaching these practices to my 9 year old as well! She deserves it! 💙 We all do!

“A cluttered mind means there is an endless stream of mental commentary” wow. Yes. Such a profound conversation we all must have with ourselves. Self-knowledge is indeed the most difficult knowledge, yet also the most imperative for existing in a balanced and mindful way.
Young Jedi, how with the presence of a quiet mind, can we have a con-versation with ourselves about it? And when truth appears, self knowledge is uncovered in recognition. 🙏
@@JediBunny I quite liked the typo tbh. Isn't the stream also a dream of the cluttered chattering mind? In the now, reality is..... The force, strong it is with this one. Another there is. Maybe her.
I also talk to my self in the We form. An example is "we got this!" or "what should we do today?". Lately I've been going through a stressful period in my life, changing jogs. With elevated stress a lot of normal bodily functions tend to get messed up, I noticed that I went into a negative self talk cycle, that eventually led to a nervous breakdown. Slowly climbing back out of the darkness I realised that I was talking to myself negatively, imagining doom scenarios as if they were fact. So, to combat these thoughts, any time i catch myself with negative self talk, i just say, in my head, hey, that's negative self talk. and i follow it up with. "We got this man" and an example of some hard times in the passed that i had to overcome. I think this should get much more attention, because its a total game changer for life.
I use a tactic, with especially negative thoughts. 1) if i had the thought before I am allowed to stop rethinking the same thought. That already has been processed. Then I think Aha it is that thought again. For me seeing its a repeat stops that thought. . So for me its not about surpressing thoughts, but no need to reinvent the wheel
I too laugh when I see the same thought again. I’m like really? Didn’t the mind just think that? Paying attention to these things really takes the load of stress off us.

I have problems with obsessive thinking and can’t sleep well because of it. And advice?
@@ElenaRata-iv5pk I have found that whenever obsessive thinking arises, it is important for me to switch to the perspective of the watcher. That way, I can simply observe the thoughts and they don't have to affect me. This is hard, of course, but the alternative is a great deal of suffering, as I am sure you know. Also, I think it is essential to develop this ability when things are good. That way, when things are difficult, I am better equipped to resist the tempation to participate in or buy into my obesssive thinking.

How do you do that?
I still don’t know how to calm down my voices in my head. Talk talk I am still the same. Suggestion please
Dear man, you have practically saved my life. I am 74 & going through some tough times. Living in the present moment and ignoring that voice in my head that is terrified and anxious and depressed has made all the difference in the world. I binge-watch your videos. Thank you for existing.
I hope you are doing well...enjoying peace that comes from awareness of the moment.
You are not alone, I'm doing the same.. 🙂 Enjoy your present moments. Namaste 🙏
@@sarahdowling2478 I love your metaphors about burying that voice.

You can't stop the voice in your head, it is a part of you. Just don't give it so much attention and watch how it looses it's power.

This should be taught in schools. I feel this is the future of education as consciousness is expanding. Thanks Eckhart for your valuable and life changing teachings 💜☀️
That would be good.
or parents can too :)
It is not the future of education if communists have anything to do about it, which they do.
The oligarchs won’t let that happen…they just want everyone to obey and be sheeple.
It’s the very definition of “Enlightenment”: the dis identification with mind. Once that realization happens everything is effortless
One way I stop negative thinking is to explore. Give my brain something new to learn. It always works.
Thanks for sharing I will try that
It works because it's distraction.
You are identifying with the mind. Practice disidentifying
Love to all ❤
For me, it’s imagining you are standing up and flows come shock on your head (thoughts), you need to lie down and peace with come back
If only it was so easy😂

When I peeked into my mind the first time
I was shocked to find
A babbling brook
When I took a closer look
I saw streams of dreams
I was really shaken
When it dawned on me
I'd just awakened
Now aware
I watched my mind meander
Here, there and everywhere
When my attention tether tightened
And grew taut
Now aware
I breathed a mindful breath
To remind myself
To remain awake
Instead of drifting off to sleep again
In an endless flow of roaming thought
So beautiful

Your not alone , if that helps . Mindfulness….

I have never heard this before. Powerful!
I think I accidently reported your reply...sorry. I was actually enjoying reading it..just not used to watching on my phone

Okay, thanks for letting me know.
I too laugh when I see the same thought again. I’m like really? Didn’t the mind just think that? Paying attention to these things really takes the load of stress off us.
i use this too and then i laugh
Going through the pandemic was so much easier for me thanks to Tolle's teaching. I don't fully grasp the spiritual aspect of "awareness and being" but switching my focus into the present moment has helped me a lot!
There's not much to grasp or understand, just simply (although by all means not alway easy :P) what you already said: be here, now.
The mind is a product of being and not the other way around. Eckhart Tolle is helping humanity to realize the proper order of things.
this guy should have 2 billion subscribers
Mr Echardt Tolle. You have grown to be such an important Teacher and Friend. Through all of this. From you, there is clarity, insights, and direction. I appreciate, and have appreciated it a long time. It layered in for understanding, gradually. And i also appreciate you releasing these teachings and past recordings of your teachings at the right time. Almost like you guage the need of the hour. So Thank You So Much. Love.
Took a few watches, practice seriously took time to learn slowly I took it a few small steps at a time
Had little or no belief of ever making this work. And a month or two later I couldn't ever do back to that dark place.
You are gods true gift to the mind. Bless you
Helps to hear all this. Sometimes you don’t even realize how heavy you are in the head. I had several thoughts arise and had my ADD kick in a little while watching this but I noticed the space between it all this time 🙏🏼
I can relate to this so strongly, my friend.
Enjoy your life 'cause you're the life itself
🙌 👏 🙏 🤝 👍
Sometimes, listening to Ekhart feels like someone giving your mind and soul a hug. :)
I love his little giggle episodes, they are like wholesome intruders
Absolutely ❤
I know it, but stopping it is a constant battle. I recognise and acknowledge the voice, but it’s relentless and never tired
Yep 😞
This video will stay fresh and important for thousands of years
Unbelievable depression at the moment non exist problems comparing myself to others led me to a downward spiral destructive. Mindfulness is the key. Hopefully I will come out better.
Good luck James. You can do it.
"Mindfulness is discovering that there is a voice in your head that continuously comments on your life."
My dear man, you have helped me so much with your book. I wish you health and long life!
Meditation is definitely helping my mind to calm the chatter too. My favorite effective ones are chakra cleansing and Tibetan singing bowl sounds⚘I love your lessons so much Eckhart
Many are harder on themselves than anyone else could ever be. A lifetime of "doing everything wrong" and being constantly downgraded develops the negative voice. "It" deserves an award! 😑 Thank the Lord your video came at the exact perfect time. ✌️🌴♥️
Thank you for your wonderful comment on this video.
Eckhart Tolle's books and talks have been instrumental in my spiritual progress. I cannot overstate how grateful I am. Thank you.
Hmm he starts to remind me of Yoda, wise, small, funny, the voice, the force is strong with this one.
Bahahahahaha 👌😂😂 it’s hilariously true
@@SavannahVu1985 Yoda does fit although the first Star Wars movie was way before Eckhart's books.Yoda was inspired by another short wise man, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
😄😄
Actually Yoda was created after Maharishi who brought Transcendental Meditation to the West. George Lucas is a transcendental meditator and put Maharishi into Star Wars by creating Yoda
Yes!!!!
Feel the energy that raises your vibrations and be still in it
Blessings to every person on the planet. Blessings to Every animal. Blessings to every insect and plant on the planet!
NO Bill, NOT E V E R Y insect ! I insist to definitively exclude t i c s from this list (my ma finally died from Lyme disease !)
Thank you to the spirit we call Eckhart Tolle. He has taught me so much and made me understand how much my ego and pain body are not me, and how being present or mindful can dissolve both.
I frequently have conversations with myself while I'm driving but I speak them out loud.. and I actually find them quite amusing.. it also helps me reason things out that I would otherwise be unable to do. Surprisingly enough I find it helpful.. despite the craziness
Glory for Eckhart, his lessons are life changing..❤ thank you!
When you give up on thought happiness rises. ❤️🤗
I wish it was that easy for me Oscar
@@ricka0917 it truly is that easy, just pay attention to the NOW, the very moment outside of you.. breathing, your hands, nature or just smile. In all of this, there will be no thoughts at all. Once you realize you are not in yr body or thoughts, but you are spirit and only the observer, you will realize the illusion of thoughts (bad visitors). The book of Eckhart will be of great value: THE POWER OF NOW. Also follow Mooji and Rupert Spira on yt. Great stuff!
@@eekay5710 Hello OK thank you for your response it’s not that easy for me I have anxiety and panic and social anxiety and depression I wish something would help me
@@ricka0917 Richard, you are bind by your very own words. Look all the negative things you are saying in only one sentence:
1. its not that easy for me.2. i have anxiety and
3. panic and
4. social anxiety and
5. depression.
Do yrself a favor and stop thinking /saying any negative thing about yrself. Speak the words you want to see yrself. Picture a healthy, free, successful man and speak words accordingly. i don't say fool yrself, i only say stop breaking down yr being, as this is no good. it ís easy for you, just start doing the right thing .. and remember, nothing will change unless you change. Blessings!
@@eekay5710 I appreciate your help I guess the bottom line is you’re saying to change my train of thought I guess?
'The body cannot distinguish between an actual reality, an event that's happening in real life and what your mind is saying. So when you have fearful thoughts, the body reacts to every fearful thought, and that's an emotion, the body reacts with an emotion, emotion you feel in your body. The body cannot distinguish between an actual event and a thought.'
And if it goes on long enough day after day so you become addicted to the chemical dump from those emotions you become to expect them at a certain time of the day everyday rush hour traffic in the morning leaves you stressed and angry at 10 this was going to happen Saturday morning when you're not at work at 10 you going to be stressed
It is ABSOLUTELY TRUE!
I feel at peace with myself, thank you Eckhart ♥ and if you are reading me, you can beat your negative thoughts too.
I think parents should teach this to their children 💜 this could help everyone so much and change their life in a positive way . ❤️
This man is amazing! Listen to every single word, over and over again. I have this saved and play it when my mind wants to have a chat with me. And I don’t want to chat to my mind!!

I wish the incredible person reading this all the best in life; don't over-blame yourself, accept things, and move forward; don't let others define "success" for you; get up, learn the skills you need, and get after it; the keys to a happy life are in your hands.
