It’s extremely useful! I think it’s important for those that are mostly in the box to still understand the experience of moving mics around on a cab -Miami
As I said, it's the new best thing. I use my fav plugins into the return of a combo and I'm golden. Good for practice, good for troubling your neighborhood.
The slate mic sim, bro! that just made my a world of difference in my guitar sound using an amp sim!! I'm using the t-racks mic room but wow, that's the bite I was looking for, thanks Miami.
@@joeymusic I usually run straight from the amp sim with the cab sim disabled out to my reamp box then into the return of my amps fx loop straight into the power amp section and out to the cab.
Sounds like something that would be fun to mess around with if you have the money and space for a cab but the best part about plugins, imo, is that you don't need a loud ass cab.
I’ve been experimenting with this running the amp sim out to the fx loop return of a dual rectifier. Basically making the amp sim the preamp section. I don’t have a stand alone power amp here to do like you have in the video. It’s a quick way to get new and interesting tones.
When I’m not playing my 4x10 Super Reverb I use a Helix LT or Pod HD500 into a power amp and two 2x10 cabinets, one with Celestion Greenbacks & the other with Golds.
I don't see much point in using an amp sim and a real cab for getting something that sounds just like regular amp (well, unless you only have access to a power amp rather than a guitar amp for some reason). But there are many distortion plugins that do not try to sound like an amp and they're not intended for guitarists. Getting these into a real cab seems like an interesting experiment.
Pffffrrruaaaawahaaat? Ok that's freakin awesome! I will put a poweramp on my wishlist now. XD Man miami really, that was cool! I really like the idea of having the option to move around the mic. Thats mostly one thing i really miss on most amp sim plugins/IRs. Cool video as always!
Hey man ! Do we actually need a "real" power amp (1:26) even if we have one simulated in our modelers ? Because if I get it right, we will have two power amp : a simulated one going into a real one ? Thank you !
The real power amp is sending power to the real mesa cab, it’s not for tone it’s for watts, that’s the only way you’ll hear the live sound of the speakers in the room. Hope this helps. 🤘🏼✌🏼
real cabs shake the air in the room and gives a little nice flavor to it, thats what i figured out, thats why if sometimes i like the placement i made in the room just make and ir😁
OK im very new to all this new tech. Say I have a computer, interface, real tube amp and real cab. Do i just download a cab sim program on the computer? Would i run it OUT of the interface into where? Which input, if at all....total newb here....
The power-amp section of a head, and standalone amps like the Crown in the video, expect a low impedance line level, so no reamp box is needed (the signal out of the interface is exactly what the power-amp wants). Reamp box into a head/combo or preamp, definitely.
Haha yeah! It’s funny because it basically doesn’t have the benefits of being quiet, buttt it lets you get more hands on without having to spend tons of money -Miami
Exactly what I was looking for. I run my Axe Fx through a matrix, and 4x12 Marshall, and absolutely love the sound while using Amp, and cab sims. Now I found a amp plugin that I would like to try connected through my presonas 2626_ out to Matrix" then out to 4x12.Can I choose any of the outputs from the presonas?
I've been wanting to attempt something like this using PC or iOS, Orange OMEC Teleport, and two Boss Katanas MkII's "power amp in"... In theory it should be an insanely cheap stereo rig of win?!!
Thanks for this! But would be cool to see this with a modeler if you guys a few laying around that'd be cool to hear/see! Mostly because that's the situation I'm in. I have a hd500x, a precision drive and a few good guitars, 2 agiles (8 and 9 string) , balaguer, and a solar guitar. It sound good but can't get the djenty clank and djent quack I want unless I use headphones with the pod. HEEEEELLLLLPPPPP!
I used IR cabs for years, but I can't help it... When I was experimenting recently to reamp ampsim through the real cab recorded by microphone, mixing is much easier and everything seems to have its place. Plus the overall flatness is gone. Even if you use IRDX CORE by Bogren Digital with IR cab you cannot achieve that results IMHO. I think I'm going to stop using IR altogether, at least on the main rhythm guitars.
Miami since you use teles and i wanna buy one. I can only buy an affinity series tele for now which comes with top loader bridge. Do you recommend it for putting heavy gauge string like .60s? like will there be any issue?
Let me actually check this out and get back to you. But I realllllly want to suggest getting a used classic vibe in stead😩. You will be SOO much happier. I’m gonna investigate this with my top loaded right handed tele. I added a gotoh bridge to the one i use in this vid and a diff pickup -Miami
Lol. The day I make a tone better than Joey that makes me so famous it’s origin is spoken in hushed whispers of forums for a decade we will talk😂😂😂. Appreciate the love though brother -Miami
Hey Miami how are you routing this in Reaper? I have the FX send from my 6505MH able to produce sounds out of an Orange 2x12 via my Audient but I’m still getting the amp sim sound with bypassed cab through my monitors at the same time
I tried this setup many times, but it always sounded very flat and muddy... It turns any DPS plugin into very uninspiring crappy distortion... Ofc I have disabled cab sim in the plugin and tried different power amps and effect loop returns in a real amp, also there was no clipping, but it always sounded bad and cheap. Maybe it's all about impedance? I don't know...
I wish to see this kind of a combo more often. I think it better showcases the versatility that amp sims actually have

That’s what I’m saying! And yeah, I’ll be doing some impulse captures soon!

wait a minute does that slate mic contain 10+ mic circuits that you can switch between using the classic tubes virtual microphone collection plugin
I dont know the exact5 number, but its quite a few lol

Here I thought I was a genius when I layered Nameless -> KRS PA50 -> Cab with my Dover. "I can't believe nobody thought of this".
The cats out of the bag now. Time to come up with some new innovative techniques lol

What happens when you reamp by sending a track recorded with an amp sim through the front of say a JCM 800 via a reamp box?

Always flirted with the idea of doing this in a live setting, With Helix and such being 1k and up if someone unlocked this with MIDI it would rule!
You can make scenes with Toneforge Jeff Loomis to do this with midi off a laptop

Can confirm. I was able to do that with JL using an old POD HD500 as a midi controller. It's an interesting set up.
