I really like the way you explain shape language. Simple, but effective. The sunglasses tip for positioning the ears was an eye-opener because usually Idk where to place the ears of my subject in a side or three-fourths profile view

I kid you not, I was saving references of chubby characters on Pinterest today, decided to watch this video, and what you know it, I find out one of the references I saved was an Ethan Becker piece that. I didn't realize it until I saw the character in the collage of his drawings in the vid.
I'm super late, but the "I'm not gonna be here to hold your lil' baby hand when I'm gone" just made me think of grizzled Ethan leaning down like "Daughter and/or son...I ain't gonna be 'round much longer. Ya gotta make yer own way. Jus' 'member wut I taught ya, n' you'll do just fine..." *holds back tear "Daddy, I wanna shade like Ishikei." "Girl and/or boy, what th' hell have ya'll been gettin' into?"
What I understand from the intro. -Are you Ethan Becker? -It doesn't make any sense! I am Ethen Becker. You are Ethan Becker. Ethan Becker is a life style.
"I'm not gonna be here to hold your little baby hand when I'm gone." I know. But while I still have you, please, continue to hold my hand for just a bit longer.
#EthanBecker using ovals instead of favor sided triangles? My man what happened to you while you were gone from youtube so long? Though I like how you use them to show the volume of the depth of the shapes or rather muscles and fat. You did mention it once which made me sigh in relief! That video changed how I approached body mapping and anatomy simplification and your videos more than anything helped me learn how to break down references into bite sized simplified shapes greatly improving my observation skills and implementation. Love your work and always enjoy your humor and lessons. Always happy to see another video from one of my favorite UA-cam art teachers!
Gosh yeah the ovals also caught me off guard! That was unexpected character development, but at the same time the oval was quite weighted, so there's still kind of a favoured end. The favour sided triangles were one of the biggest things that made me skyrocket with my anatomy, it's such a limb godsent
6:57 to draw an ear in the correct place it needs to start from the pointy part of the eye 👁 to the end of the nose 👃 it may work for you to draw some glasses to get the placement of the ear, but at least for me it doesn’t look as natural and realistic.
My intense muscle memory is so good that I retain lots of this info, then I feel proud of my skills, then I remember I MUST LEARN MORE. The never ending cycle must continue. …then I forget what I originally learned and then the cycle has its own cycle. YOU FLCL FAN TOO?????
I like when Ethan says stuff like "the skink that kinda dinks" and it just legitimately makes sense

He speaks gibberish, but demonstrates actual understanding and it's awesome
Love the ethan becker style of the camera being focused on the back of his tablet the entire time while he sits in the blur
oh lmfaoo i thought my phone was jus trippin 😭

Yeah he’s an actual professional artist and he was talking about shapes not ligaments and tendons.
Yea because he knows what he's talking about, artists aren't required to learn all the details

I often get them to high. Top of the eye to bottom of the nose is pretty much the stuff
The ear is the size of ur eyes and nose
