My favorite is the bugout much to my fathers chagrin.
Interesting! I think I’ll go watch the video.
I like seeing that you have your own opinion, and didn’t just agree with dad to make him happy. While there is a time and place for that, most of the time you have to be your own man. In the words of my late father.....
“be a leader, not a follower”.

I personally love my bugout and have had a hard time finding ways to break it. Sure it's not an absolute tank but nothing beats not feeling it in your pocket and staying ridiculously sharp with the perfect blade shape. I like it so much actually I just bought my brother one to place in a purpleheart box I made to ask him to be my Best Man.
LTwranglerstar This knife is one of the favorite best quality knives for hiking the Pacific crest Trail PCT through hiking because you want to save on weight and it has the best blade
Can you take one of those knives and cut the string off of your shirt?
I was thinking that also.
OMG! Hahahaha!
I couldn’t stop staring at that stupid string! 🤣😂
@@450rmaniac I know. I wanted to grab the knife, cut the string, and throw it against the tree to see how it holds up.
Lol
We're of the opinion that everyone must own the Bugout. And the 940. And the PM 2. And the Delica. And the M16. And, and, and... You can't know the merits/downsides of one until you've owned them all! ;) -Ben
When ever I do reviews I always try to bring up the warm and fuzzy factor like he does.....to some it's spectacular.....to others it's as he stated here.
We miss you been but honestly this guy needs a pm2 before he can say a 940 is the best
Love you Ben, hope you’re doing alright pal. Miss you on knife banter, hope to see you in some vids soon
I have a Bugout and I love it.
And the Ultratech... You forgot the Ultratech.
Seems like bagging on a knife designed to be light weight for not being heavy duty enough is like complaining that your corvette isn't any good for rock crawling.
Or that your corvette body isn't made of metal, like a "sturdier" car, lol.
@@EDC_Soldier Exactly
I was on the way to write a sentence like this but you did it before... 😄
no it's like buying a corvette and then the wheels fall off in a week
@@GuitarD30 except there's nothing actually wrong with the knife. The "wheels" didn't fall off his Bugout. He's just complaining because it isn't the Osborne.
This video is actually what caused me to buy a bugout. I've been happily carrying it for over a year now, it's my favorite knife I've owned
Same. Love the knife. Respect his opinion but I definitely disagree with him. His comments on the strength are silly because its obviously meant to be a very lightweight cutting tool.
Most annoying review I’ve ever seen. And I hate aluminum scales as much he hates plastic!
@@cletus85 yea from what it seems he needs a very sturdy knife for what he’s using it for but for me atleast and light weight knife is what I need that’s why it is my biggest wish list knife
I just can’t get past the cheap feeling plastic
@@mangosnap1213 honestly the bugout is a very sturdy and lightweight knife. The scale flex isnt even as bad as it's made out to be
Who knew a plastic handle would sound like plastic, and feel lighter than aluminum? Absolutely astonished.
Just threw my Glock away. All the sudden I realized it was plastic.
DirePanda go get a colt 1911A1 you will thank me later
Nathan Stevens and what gun is that a kimber 1911
Nathan Stevens I agree with you but if you compare a glock to my 1911 there is no comparison but a $500 glock to a $500 1911 glock is the way to go or a smith Wesson or a Springfield to a cheap 1911 the modern guns will out preform
Nicholes Brooks you missed the point of the video. Only way you could miss the point is if you aren’t a knife or gadget guy. Therefore you’re comments don’t count and interfere with normal people. Like a deer fly.
My husband's a knife guy. I think you'll appreciate this story.
About 20 years ago he was in a situation where he needed a knife and so he grabbed the cheapest knife at some random stand for $6. He did his task, slipped the knife in his pocket and moved on with his day.
For years he thought of her as 'that cheap POS' but he doesn't get rid of anything and she sat with the dozens of other precious, expensive knives in the case.
And when he needed a pocket knife, he kept finding himself going back to that cheap $6 POS.
It actually frustrated him. He kept buying nice knives, looking for a perfect one; but that $6 POS was just too perfect. She had weight. She fit his hand like she was designed for him. She sharpened beautifully and held an edge better than any other knife he's ever used. Fit in the pocket of everything he wore. (Yes, he's had that knife with him in a 3-piece suit and dress blues)
He never felt bad about abusing her because she was only $6, and she continued to live. And thrive. And work. She's been sharpened so many times that the blade is visibly narrower. The finish is totally gone. He's whittled with her, cut hundreds of boxes down with her. Cut meat with her. Thrown her into a ring at parties. Perfect spin every time. Balanced like it was crafted like a master. Heck, if he needed to abuse a knife, that was the one he'd reach for and she's quietly taken it all like a trooper.
She's not pretty at all. She didn't come out of the plastic with a nice design and years of use and abuse have taken their toll. But she won't die.
About two years ago, he finally decided to allow himself to fall in love with Her. She's cheap. She's not pretty. Not a brand name of any sort.
But she works for him and she's never, ever let him down.
He did buy the TOS sharpening system and the first knife he put in the clamps was the $6 POS. (Yes. That's what he still affectionately calls her.) He lovingly sharpened her for almost an hour. Put a single drop of oil on her hinge and snapped her open and shut with a smile.
Then back in the pocket she went.
Feel that way about my $15 Opinel. No, it isn't one-handed. Most times the wood swells and the blade is tight to get out. It is also a pretty thin blade and would not serve to pry with...as if I would do that with ANY knife...but, the blade is just shaped right for all the things I do. It holds an edge, is sharp as hell and just feels so right in my hand. My son has some expensive knives in his collection, many automatics, but I just like my cheap little Opinel. It just suites me and my lifestyle. I dig your story.
Pepper Conchobhar I want to see this knife ! Or know where It was purchased. Great story
I know the feeling. No matter what I do, I always go back to my victorinox Small Tinker. Perfect size and has the functions I need. I love her because I’m not afraid to use her. She works and works well, is the perfect size and works every time. My perfect little knife would be nice to have fancy scales or a better steel, but she does what she is meant to do and does it well.
Pepper Conchobhar I want to see a movie made from that story.
I get it, I like my cheep knife and I use it all the time I would not want an expensive EDC because if you break it you are out a lot if money but a cheep one that is still good is perfect it does what you needed to do and you don't have to worry about breaking it because it was not expensive
Putting aftermarket scales on the bugout is a game changer. The normal scales never bothered me but glad I swapped them, it’s like a whole new knife.
Yeah but how much weight did it gain?
Exactly. I put on g10 scales and it changed the whole knife
I put titanium on mine, it’s still plenty light enough, and so much better than the cheap plastic frn’s
@6foot8jesuspilledpureblood82 my 535 with aluminum scales weighs 2.3oz. So it gained 0.4oz but is still extremely light
@@MH-gy6qvwhere did you guys get the scales i just bought my first benchmade bugout the only complaint i had was the scales being cheap but overall its a beautiful knife
Hadn't watched your vids in a while. Figured I'd watch this one and now I remember why.
Exactly the same here.
Same
Oof, dang.
Ok because he has an opinion?
@@thiccanimegirl76 That's an opinion you're questioning right now, pal.
I love how he can open the 940 with ease, but can't operate the same lock on a different knife.
I guess his hands need to lose weight. As he said the fat on his hands gets caught on the lanyard hole and the sharp edges of the handle haha.
She does this all the time. He's probably the most biased reviewer on the internet. Hell just look at his machete video.
I own both and I will say that they do open much much differently. The Bugout almost feels spring loaded (it’s not) which is great, but it doesn’t open very easily unless you index the stud. The 940 will open with gravity alone if you actuate the axis lock.
Hes not a knife conisuir. The 940 is weighted diff too break in period is longer on the bugout id say less weight to throw around and break it in
@@genghischuan4886 it’s the same locking mechanism it’s not any harder than any other Benchmade. The difference is that he’s had his 940 for years and the axis lock is broken in, a brand new axis lock isn’t going to be as smooth as one that’s broken in.
I bought a Porsche 911. Man, I can’t load it with even a fraction of what I can load into my F250 Heavy Duty... What a disappointment! It’s just too small... And too fast... And too low-riding for an everyday car... Disclaimer: I am not saying that the Bugout is a 911 porsche of knives, or that the 940 is the F250 (although that latter may be :). But really, this whole review is not about Bugout, but about failed expectations.
the bugout is more like a riced out civic

Honestly agreed, was super disappointed with my bugout until a friend gifted me the flytanium titanium grip and it completely changed the knife to, if not a 10/10, the closest I've felt to one
I’ve been carrying the mini bugout every day for many months and love it. Not the world’s toughest knife but perfect for 99% of anything I have encountered. It’s lightweight and an amazing slicer that fits very comfortably in the hand
I'm a knife guy.
I have no problems with this knife. In my opinion it's a good knife.
Gaspar Ortega I think as long as the knife has a good lock, good blade, comfy handle, good pocket clip than it’s decent.
Same here. I bought my first Benchmade 22 years ago. I carry 3 knives on me most of the time. I own at least 25 quality knives. I think I qualify as a knife guy and I have both the gray and the blue bugout and I love them. The 940 is still my favorite knife but the bugout if one of the few knives that competes with it.
bzebarth I don’t think the bug out deserves that much hate Cody gives it though
Yeah I guess it depends on the persons needs and wants from the knife.
Levi Olson true agreed

I think it's great for what it's intended to be; the perfect EDC. By perfect, I mean that everyone can carry it. Anyone. Whether you're a 12 year old bushcraft beginner or a 75 year old man or woman. It can be carried by anyone of all shapes, sizes, genders, nationalities and ages. It's also tough as nails. Sure, it's not as sturdy or powerful as my Cold Steel Recon 1, but it was never advertised or intended to be. The Bugout is for normal everyday use and sometimes more; going grocery shopping, cutting boxes at work, opening mail, cutting some bananas or apples(etc), shaving some wood, and even baton some wood(I've done it, trust me it'll hold up). The Bugout is fantastic.
I totally 100% disagree. I have the bugout mini and by far the best edc knife I have ever known. The warranty with benchmade is incredible on top of it. You do realize they make the bugout in titanium and carbon fiber which is stronger then your 940. The Handel is comes with is for weight reduction. The whole in the back I have no issue and no clue what you are talking about.
Thank you...you're a fine American.
Agree. I owned both 940-1 & 535-3 … I do prefer 535 over 940 for EDC …
I’ve had my bugout for going on 4 years now, it’s seen things that most knives wouldn’t recover from it and still looks almost brand new. I’ve worked construction type jobs the entire time I’ve had this knife and it’s been in my pocket every day getting used for cutting things from insulation to shingles and Sheetrock. This knife didn’t resonate with me either, but it’s important to remember that flex isn’t always a bad thing. I’ve seen steel and aluminum chip and break before those plastics are ever damaged.
weirdly uncommon opinion. as for wood, it'll easily crack and rot over a similarly built plastic piece. i'm no knife guy and don't care for the whole discourse here but if that 940 were as light as the bugout it might deform permanently after a bad day.
I purchased the Bugout mini and love it. This was my first EDC and use it all the time, cutting plastic, taped boxes, straps on pallets, and whatever and it just works. Size and weight are why I purchased it, but the blade is what makes it. I liked it so much I got the carbon handle with v90 steel and it is even better. A great knife.
V90 steel? Sir please know what your talking about before talking. The 535-3 bugout with carbon scales has CPM S90V steel, not v90 steel (no such thing).

I have noticed a trend with people who don’t like this knife. They all say that it feels cheap because of how light/thin it is. However, that was the whole point with the design. It is a lightweight knife for people to take to the office and cut boxes open. not every EDC knife has to have the strength of Aragorn’s sword Narsil.

I love my bug out. At first when I bought it I felt that I was paying too much because of the plastic, but I love the light weight and the slim design. So much so that I even forgot it was in my pocket a few times at first. Overall a very capable knife in a light weight and slim package.

I used to carry a big ol long and heavy knife, I love it so much. One day at bass pro with my girlfriend I was looking at the knives. Not knowing anything about the bugout, never having held it, I said “that’s a sexy knife” 7 months later she bought me it for Christmas. I saw the bench made box and my heart honestly dropped because we’re both broke college students and I felt bad she spend so much money. I was still excited however.
I pulled the bugout out the box and literally was immediately disappointed. I never realized how light and “cheap” it felt.
I had to fake my smile. I was just thinking about how for $180 dollars I could of gotten something better.
6 months later I could not be any happier with this bugout
It’s the best knife I’ve ever touched
It may feel “cheep” but that could not be father from the truth
Most days I don’t pull my knife out my pocket, but when I do this knife has never disappointed me.
And that’s that thing, I don’t use it ever day and I don’t even notice that I’m carrying it
I love the big bulky knife because it makes me feel powerful and it looks VERY intimidating.
Yeah I don’t get that feeling with the bugout but I don’t even feel it in my pocket
It’s amazing how durable it is while having the same weight as a paper clip.
Im glad that I don’t notice it in my pocket.
I can sit down without my knife digging into my skin and when I need a knife, the bug out does everything the big bulky knife did.
10/10 knife. If it came down to a self defense situation then okay I’ll take the big knife. However, If it ever came down to it the bug out is gonna do what I need it to.

I'm a "knife guy" too, and am definitely a fan of the Bugout. The whole idea of the knife for me is that its light and slim with a good blade, so the plastic makes sense. Its my most frequently carried knife.
And the lanyard hole... You're supposed to flick the knife open, not twist it while opening it
It's good for a bugout bag or emergencies because its slim and light, but the quality and shape makes it horrible for an EDC knife

Two knives in hand and a string that needs cuts off his shirt! OCD in hyper drive.
940 was built to be a tough knife that can be easily carried and the Contego is it's big brother. The Bugout was designed to be a light knife that won't take up a lot of space and won't weigh you down, but it will be able to do most jobs that you need it to do.
I was wondering why the knife community was making fun of you for this video. Now I know why it's because this wasn't something that needed 13 minutes of explanation.
I like his venting. It's how we all feel inside about stupid cheap concepts that somehow gain popularity.

You're putting expensive chrome on a bad car. A folding knife that's longer than 2" needs metal in the handle and pivot. Metal liner or frame.
They make so many options for this knife. Titanium, carbon fiber, micarta, G10....
jfkusa123 , the knife is meant for hikers who are concerned about weight, that’s why it’s skeletalized plastic. It’s also the same steel as the 940 and cheaper
While I appreciate your personal preference for the 940, a very very nice knife, my own EDC preference is the bugout (and bugout mini). I've been handling EDC knives for nearly 60 years, maybe dozens of brands, lost count. I still have my very first EDC, a small Case folder. For me, after several years daily use, nothing works as well as the bugout. Thin and lightweight enough to actually be unnoticeable. Always instantly available in the trailing corner of my right front pants pocket, tip up with the deep pocket clip. Super fast one-hand draw and opening. Almost as fast and easy to one-hand close and re-clip in my pocket. Feels very comfortable in the hand to me. The scales feel similar to G10 handgun scales, so maybe why they feel familiar to me. Decent blade and sharp. Used for cutting not prying so I have no need to EDC a tank. Thank you for sharing your review. Quick tip, I put the tip of the pocket clip under my middle fingernail when "re-holstering" the knife to guide the clip onto the pants pocket edge. Quick and easy. I always carry the same way in the same place so I don't have to think about it. Also carefully adjust the tension on the blade pivot torx screw to your taste in closing and opening. Either lighter tension to gravity open-close, or a little heavier tension to flick fast open-close without rebound.
I have the new aluminum handled version with M390. I think you need to get one and re-visit this. It’s heavier and the handle slabs feel premium. The 940 is in my opinion the king of EDC but this new aluminum Bugout is destined to be up there too.
I’ll add that I think your review is awesome. It’s more a gripe about personal preference. You say quite a bit which is positive about the Bugout. It’s almost as if you want to love it but you’re more let down by the things which prevent it from being your favourite. And that makes it worse for you. You don’t hate the design, you hate that you don’t love it, because you want to.
Again, trust me, get the 535BK-4.
When you forget to do your project and you try to make the time cutout
I was literally cry laughing when he started talking about the lanyard hole pinching his hand fat

When you realize you’ve become a boomer.
My EDC is a Griptilian I bought in 2006. I’m assuming it has the same type handle as this knife and I absolutely love the “Grip”. The metal 940 looks like it would be slippery when wet. I’ve never held one, so I’ll have to find one to see how it feels in the hand - but I absolutely love the Griptilian. BTW, it didn’t closet $75. I wish it did.
I would never argue with a person’s personal preference in a knife, and obviously there are features on the Bugout that don’t work in your situation, but my experience is different. I have both the 940 and the 535 (and many others), but I carry the 535 (the Bugout) everyday and love it. I work in an office and the thin profile and light weight of the 535 is perfect. It has high end steel that is the big reason that it’s over $100. I love the 940 as well, and would carry it over the 535 if I was out on the weekends working in the yard, or in the woods, where that is extra strength and heft add value. That’s why there are thousands of knife designs out there for different preferences and uses. Good video though to help people think through the use of the knife.
I agree mostly with your sentiment, but you're letting him off the hook here & he needs to understand how objectively wrong he is. This has nothing to do with opinion; what he said is just plain incorrect & incredibly poorly reasoned. It's this inability to reason, to analyze data, that has our entire country in such a mess right now...a heavy thing to say about a bad knife review, I know, but true nonetheless.

I didn’t know a glock was a tool. Complains about plastic but, owns a bic pen. Doesn’t relate sir.
The Bugout, as properly named, is a minimalist knife for backpacking. Incidentally, being light duty, it works great for office EDC, etc.
The 940 is a working/harder use edc.
To say the Bugout is bad is unfair to its purpose. It just isn’t the right knife for your EDC.
It’s far from bad, when used for its purpose.
I think you are being very unfair to Benchmade it doing this video. This is essentially doing a video on how your Honda Civic is terrible at towing.
Still way overpriced for what it is. A $120+ knife damn well ought to have full liners. Or G10 or CF if you're going ultralight.
@@agentvx8320 You're missing the point of the knife. It was designed to be lightweight, not super strong. You would be able to tell that if you picked one up.
@@lastplace199 Then for that price point, it should be carbon fibre. I'm not "missing the point", I'm rejecting the propaganda.
@@agentvx8320 Carbon fiber is almost 50% denser than the plastic they're using. You're missing the point.
@@lastplace199 I'm definitely missing the appeal of a knife that flexes like that and feels so cheap in the hand just to save a few grams, yeah. Particularly when I can't tell whether my original Paramilitary is there unless I check for it.
I was late to jump on the bugout train. When I finally broke down and bought one I wondered what the hell I had been waiting for. I own a lot of knives and the bugout fits perfectly into my day hiking bags. I can do 20-30 miles in the white mountains with it in a day. You can't argue with the weight on it. And I agree with you it feels cheap but it takes a hell of a beating. I have some really nice aluminum textured scales I bought and it makes it feel WAY more sturdy.
I appreciate what your saying about loving something and living with it for sure.
I’ve been tiring of the hyperbolic titles for a while but this takes the cake. I’m positive this isn’t the worst knife you’ve ever carried but you gotta rack up those views, I suppose! I don’t like the Bugout for similar reasons but this really made me cringe to watch.
At $80, he's very right in saying it's the worst. A $10 knife from Walmart is better than this one because of the price. For that $10 you get a lot. For $80, there just isn't enough substance in the Benchmade, making it the worst.
@@jsnipn completely agree
lol someone witha million subscribers needs to "rack up views". you're funny.
He just is letting us know his findings of the knife, nothing else. You can agree or not...nothing else
SuffuFFaffiss - even worse it’s not even $80 lol it’s $140
The Bugout in my opinion is a wonderful knife. It’s light, thin and agile. Good steel with great function. Here’s the thing, as a knife community we are losing sight of the fact that we need to appreciate function over form. It was designed for a purpose in mind and it was to be an ultimate lightweight (non heavy duty use) knife. I’m sure your 940 blows it out of the water but it’s also twice it’s price. You can’t honestly say this knife when it comes down to it wouldn’t meet your needs. If you require a heavier duty knife day to day that’s fine. But honestly don’t sit there and say because it’s less fidgatable and not made out of aluminum that it makes it less than. You showed no real world use. I can honestly say for me it’s a real gem I can carry it all day and it’s barely noticed. The s30v is sharp and keeps an edge for a long time. The clip is phenomenal and over all feel is great. If you want a fidget knife sure go with anything in bearings you’re afraid to get dirty. If you want a modern knife that pays homage to function over form then go with this knife. Don’t let someone who has barely used the knife sway your opinion.
Thanks for your explanation, I still don't like it,
Unfortunately just because you exist on UA-cam doesn’t give you a pass to say I just don’t like it. No real world use, you didn’t talk about price between the two nor about the market it was aimed at. I’m no Benchmade fanboy but quit trying to be a knife reviewer. You truly do not what you’re talking about. You base your videos around one knife. You are simply just spreading wrong information. I’m not saying the Bugout is a perfect knife but you’re comparing apples and oranges.
@@juniormeyer27 said, "Unfortunately just because you exist on UA-cam doesn’t give you a pass to say I just don’t like it. "
Sure it does, he just did it. You might not like his opinion but he clearly stated it and hundreds of thousands of people are lapping it up. Informed or not...
It definitely sways a lot of people's opinion who use their knife in the same way he does. If you have different needs for your knife then his opinion doesn't matter. I personally live a similar lifestyle and if it's not working for him, it's not going to work for me. In fact despite his first video, I knew it wasn't for me because my knife needs to be very strong and is seldom used for its intended purpose. PS if you want a indestructible Heavy Duty knife for a reasonable price, check out the CRKT M16 line. I carry a M16-13sf or a M16-14sf. Both can be had for around $50.
right ...this ^^^^ It's light . I think he needs to buy a knife made of wrought iron or granite
The reason the grip series is so great is due the full length liners under the GRN (Glass Reinforced Nylon), compared to the bugouts quarter length detent plates/spring mount points.
I love the bugout; that exact knife too. Although I have the carbon fiber model, and that one is sleeker and has that feel that you speak of. However, the lighter model in tan/coyote color is a good EDC for me.
Sounds like a 1911 guy complaining about Glocks never taking off because cheap plastic and no soul blah blah blah. If you're flexing a bugout enough to bend it then you're outside the intended use and probably should be using a fixed blade or pry bar.
Atomic Bean a good knife should be able to be used as a small pry bar
Jayna Forsgren....absolutely not!!!!
Jayna Forsgren Hahahhahahahaha!
No
Nicely said!
Jayna Forsgren a folder will fail as a pry bar... dumb. Paint cans and all... it will fail.
seems like a very subjective opinion.
objectively:
if you want a premium bladesteel and a blade which is long for the size of the knife in an ultra-light package it is the best knife for this role. this is only possible with non-lined light polymer handle scales. with 56grams it is 60% of the weight of the 940. if you dont mind carrying more weight the 940 is probably the better option. knife blade is 1.5cm longer than the spyderco delica 4 while the same size in the pocket. only problem i see are the sharp edges on the handles... i had so sand it down a bit, took me 2 minutes.
I love a tough knife
Carried the 580 barrage for nine years. I abuse the hell out of it. I'm a logger and use it every day to pry with, remove screws, cut boxes and poke holes in stuff. Toughest knife I've ever carried and it has plastic handles. But it's not flexible because of the liners.
The only reason I'm considering the bug out is the aluminum handles.
I disassembled a bug out last night for a friend of mine and I really don't like the flimsy design. I'm still on the fence about this knife.
If you're going for a 535 get one with the s90 and the carbon fiber or the reinforced nylon handle.
I have this exact knife and the same color and I absolutely love it. I use it at work every day for about a year and on camping trips. I absolutely love the look and feel of it. It’s by far my favorite folding knife even amongst my Benchmade knives. Super easy to keep sharp because I honestly only need to hit a strip with it maybe once a week. If you’re using this knife in a way where you can feel it flex then you’re using it wrong lol. Opening the knife one handed is extremely easy and I do it multiple times a day at work.
Could not disagree with you more. The Bugout is an almost perfect EDC knife; super light and sturdy enough for most EDC tasks. My only gripe is that it's pricier than it should be.
Adam Loveday I couldn’t agree with you more. This review has turned me off from caring what his opinion is on anything 🤷♂️
Prices at Benchmade are really as cheap as they can be without using worse materials. All their knives are also hand assembled, sharpened, and cleaned before boxing. That means workers need pay. If you can't afford 15 more dollars for a knife, get their cheapest knife. The bugout isn't the best knife but the 550s and the 555s have a lot of flaws in it's reliability.
CrashMasta well you could say that. But they are not competitive with other companies. Spyderco is a perfect example. The PM2 uses similar steel but offers g-10 grips. Which is a much better scale material than just the plastic that benchmade uses. For the price the bugout should come with g-10 or at least a steel liner to give it strength. It’s not acceptable for a pocket knife to literally bend with moderate use.
@@stump3514 Benchmade does have an upgraded version of the bugout in their gold class.
J Strawn did yu hear what he jus said??🔪
I was heartbroken when you gave up the 940 but a little piece of my heart knew you would be pulled right back into it
Finaly an honest review. Benchmade is over rated and over priced. Toooo expensive with the ultra cheap scales. There is so much choices in this kind of prices. They should revised their price policy. For me Benchmade It's . . . Over
I thought by the headline that the bugout had some sort of fatal flaws, instead it’s just a guy whining about his hands and a plastic handle which isn’t even plastic. Should change the headline to say “How I think the 940 is better for my purse than the bugout”
Hm. I understand that you’re opening it in a way that pinches your hand and how that is bad for you but to fault the knife because it isn’t the 940 seems like a bad way to review something to your audience (all of whom have different tastes and budgets). I’m kinda disappointed in this video to be honest.
I have the Bugout and the plastic feels a bit cheap, but it works, and works well. It's not a bushcraft knife it's an edc. And imo a perfect one. It's very light, looks great (in the ranger green), has a great steel in s30v, And I've closed and opened it 100's of times. Never pinched my skin once.
The fact you can snap the blade from its handle with your bare hands isn’t a problem? Fuuuq Do you even use knives...
Your name is budget bigot.
@@DARTHMOBIUS Was that aimed at me? Then no I'm not concerned as I wont be putting it through any kind of abuse. It's an edc knife. For me that means a bit of food prep, opening packages and other light work. If I'm doing heavy duty work, I'll use something sturdier like a fixed blade.
Stephen Lee: yeah well, should factor SHTF moments, my Spyderco Para can prybar without the fear of snapping whilst cutting 20mil hemp rope, for a $140 knife, Benchy should swaped-out for a Ballistic composite, and not some cheap snap ABS
It’s cheaper then the 940. And please do a video showing us you holding it like you where in the video and snapping it. Please!
Don't feel bad. I feel the same way about my Buck 110 Autos. The younger generations don't understand what quality is, because their lives revolve around plastic.
Benchmade spams the hell out of this knife on their social media. I have to imagine its because the Bugout probably is one of the higher margin knives they make. Cheaper materials and less of them, but still a $170 - 200 knife. Probably prints money.
Finally met a guy that understands my fascination with my knife! Just watching this video made me go into the other room where keep it with my keys so I could look at it and admire it. A dumb one at that
The Bugout is probably the best EDC besides my Para 2 that I have ever owned.
My wife’s new Bugout CF Elite should be delivered today. I got it because she’s a lefty, and smaller, though she does have decently size hands for a female.
The CF Elite is supposed to have much stiffer scales, but I wanted the black. My plan is to install Flytanium scales, and back spacer. Make it custom, and special for her. It should be much stronger, and strong enough for anything she will put it through.
I hate plastic scales as well.
I respect your straight to the point style. Good review!
Cody! Much like you I'm very particular and right at this moment all I want is for you to go back and remake an ending to this video.....and in this new ending you employ the answer to all my dreams and wishes by using the very tool made for this job, the 940 of course, and you CUT THAT STRING OFF!! Don't let it mock our tools with such blatant disregard!!

My favorite comments: "I just bought this knife thanks to you and now I'm stuck with a lemon"...because I'm too stupid to think for myself and just buy things based on UA-cam reviews then blame someone else for my own lack of research...
Tenspeed TheBikeHanger he could sell it too. Good one. :)
That's a little bit harsh, don't you think? Maybe they don't have the experience, wanted a nice knife and since wranglerstars opinion is appreciated they though that this would be a nice knife to have? You don't have always a nice store in hand to check every knife you might like... (I personally wouldn't call this knife a lemon, but I can understand that some people are a little bit salty about the change of mind. What I read was mostly something like: maybe if you recommend a knife you should be sure what you are talking about BEFORE you talk about, and not only a few weeks you put a video out there praising something...)
@@erebostd No sir, if you buy a knife sight unseen on the recommendation of a single UA-cam video it then because YOUR responsibility. In fact, if you buy a knife period it is your responsibility. Quit blaming everyone else for your problems!!
Wouldn’t wranglerstars review count as research? There’s a few videos of glowing reviews of the benchmade bugout
@@AlexT-md9df I have bought a couple things based on Wranglerstar's recommendation. Many more based on Nutnfancy. But I take full responsibility for those purchases. It isn't Wranglerstar's fault if I don't like the item. If Wranglerstar changes his mind through use of the item or something unforeseen happening after his glowing review that is just par for the course. Again, not his fault. It's odd how different people are, I recently got a bugout, I don't like change so it'll be a bit before I make my final decision on if it'll be my new EDC, but people are so different, you hate the thing, that's your opinion, you're completely justified, a friend of mine loves his bugout, it's his perfect knife, again completely justified. This is just proof that everyone is different and needs to find what works for them, one size does in fact, not fit all.

We've witnessed a knife owners divorce .
I bought this for my son a few years ago and he positively loves it. The handle is made the way it is to save weight. I've played with it plenty of times and neither he nor I ever had problems with it being uncomfortable. That's the nice thing about so many good knives on the market though - everyone's preferences are different and there's something out there for everyone.
there absolutely nothing wrong with the knife, its all you. ive been carrying a griptilian for years, fiberglass reinforced nylon polymer, is not plastic, its quite literally one of the most advanced materials in existence right now. im waiting for you to trade in your glocks and ars m8 for 1911s and m1 carbines, seeing as you dont like "plastics"
Yeah the scales very deliberately designed and not just a cheap sheet of plastic. We’re finally seeing CAD being fully exploited in designs like the Bugout or the imho Sig P365. Before now most guns or knives could have been made with 1950’s tolerances and were derivative of early 20th century designs. Now we’re finally getting 21st products.
TheDallasdeadeye. lol FRN is defiantly not the most advanced material out there not by a long shot but I do agree with you FRN is just fine and they made the bug out thin so it'd be lightweight. Easy fix new set of scales in carbon fiber or G10
Glocks are shower guns and Classics belong in the Gun Room.
This knife however is fine. Used it for about 2 months and into my collection it went.
It is plastic, just very strong plastic with fiberglass in it.
I was given that same knife a year or so ago as a gift. I don't carry or use it for the same reasons you mentioned. I'm grateful to the friend who gave it to me, but I keep it as a showpiece only.
Btw, I've been a Seiko wearer since 1972. I'm currently rocking their Solar Divers chronograph. Love it!
The part where he was throwing a little temper tantrum during his weird closeup of just his hands 😂
I almost had to stop watching when he basically said he’s afraid to open it one handed because it hurts his poor little finger. Never heard a grown man complain 48 different times about the same exact thing just reworded.
Us Spyderco people are shaking our heads
I would agree to some extent, but the fact is that your knife should be comfortable to use so while it does come across as senseless bitching , I think his point is that it was uncomfortable to use.
I have been carrying my bugout for over 6 months now. I'm not gonna say it turns me on every time I pull it out but it weighs almost nothing at all. If you are worried about the bend and material then spend a bit extra and get titanium, micarta, carbon fiber scales for it. even after you get new scales for it you will still be about 20 bucks cheaper than even the cheapest 940. I carry this knife every day and use it for a ton of cardboard and tape because I am a stocker. I am taking it out of my pocket and opening it LITERALLY a few hundred times a week. I think that this fits an edc/ camp kitchen knife role and fits it well. I would love a 940 too but this gets the job done.
For someone completely illiterate as to pocket knives, this video and the comment section are a wealth of information. Thank you.
