You are an awesome teacher. I'm a long-time musician but fairly new to recording in Studio One. I've also watched your compression and equalization videos. Great stuff! Thank you!!
Thank you for making this video. I am a new DAW user, (40 years of using analog tape machines), using Studio One, and today was my first attempt at adjusting a track that was peaking out here and there. But with this video my problem has been fixed. And now on to the other thirty one tracks. I am using all analog effects, compressors and eq at this point so the only automaiton I am expecting to use is on the faders.
I was doing these things "manually 🤷♂️". By copying tracks and paning each track individually. I was also an idiot, essentially mixing individual midi tracks to create my fades. This just saved me so much time and headaches.
I've got Studio One about 3 weeks ago and have watched many of your videos. The level of help they have provided has been eye opening. Clear, concise and easy to follow.
Mastering has always been a challenge for me so I would skip it and export a mix. I play, write and record. Thank you for this tutorial on mastering. Studio One 5 Pro user and use stock plug-ins. Gonna work at this.
Only thing missing that you talked about in the video but forgot to go over was automating the mute on/off for sends and inserts. Liked and subscribed!
Thank u! Studio one is such an amazing daw and economic! Best thing I like about automationin studio one is that where ever you click, you can add its autonation! No need to manually add parameter! I have recently subscribed to sphere... Immensely economic deal... Just cant thank presonus enough ...when I was not able to afford cubases and abletons...studio one came as angel! Also thanks to your in-detail tutorials on cakewalk, I use that as well sometimes... Keep guiding us sir
Thank you my friend. I agree with you about Sphere, its great value for money. I hope to see you again in the comments. Please let me know what other S1 tutorials you would like to see:)
@@CreativeSauce yes yes yes please... Looking forward... Also, if you can share some light on details of sphere as I am still figuring it out... (its huge) plugins, packs, what not! So will be a help (I am sure many would want detailed insight on sphere, it is relatively new thing)
Hi Mike! I hope you are doing well. I'm a bit late to the table with watching this video but I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you! I've recently switched to Studio One from using Reaper where automation is dead easy. Your video has helped me out with automation in a big way! Thanks for spelling everything out so clearly. Best regards, Chris 👍🏻
Nice Video. One thing you did not touch on was if you want to delete the automaton and start from fresh. However I did learn a tone thank you so much .
Great video clearly explained. The different automation modes were explained and demonstrated very well. Im quite new to Studio One and when Im not working I am learning all things Studio One. As a hobbyist I cant wait to start using Studio One to make my ambient styles of music
super good bro. ive been producing since 13 and i didnt use automation until 3 years in. never took the time to learn the information... always keep that mindset of wanting to learn!!
Mike! Your the best! I learned how to automate tonight! I thought it was going to be so hard, but you made it relatively easy! Thank you so much; I love your videos!
If you dislike this video hit the dislike button twice.. I love that, if I decide to create content I will most likely borrow that. Lol So helpful, I have subscribed. I had set up Automation and apparently left it set to write and kept seeing random "write Automation" in my history so I was afraid to touch it anymore. Now I see why that happened: switch to read after.. Thanks!
Great stuff, clearly explained. I do wish you'd gone the one step further to show and explain the little magic hand icon in the upper-left and how it relates to creating automation though; I think that would complete the automation story.
Nice one as always Mike. Congratulations on your new set up and 50K subscribers. Missed your giveaway unfortunately but hope that went well too. Didn't know about the grey VCA line for fader positions - always learn something from your videos 😊 Now Studio One has retrospective record, key switch lanes and improving score I think I will be with it for sometime so keep up the vids please 👍
Excuse me... I tried volume fader with a Presence instrument (Violins Legato) and worked perfectly... BUT it didn´t work on Impact FX. The volume Slider moves reproducing the "Wrote"... but the sound volumen itself doesn´t follow the moving slider. The same goes to Panning What am I doing wrong? ⁉❓❓
Hi Mike. Thank you for an informative and very informative video. I followed your instructions to the best of my ability and everything went well (fairly obvious and simple), but when playing the song it comes right from the start and what was faded out does not work even though it appears visually as it should. What can cause this. Thanks in advance for the help.
Thanks, Mike! I really needed the in depth on touch, read, write, latch. You may have already done these, but, how about an in depth on the Presonus ioStation 24c, and mastering in Studio One 5 Artist.
So glad I stumbled upon your channel (and this video in particular). Excellent stuff! I wish I'd taken the time to learn this several years ago! Thanks! Quick 'basics' question: So if I want to be able to automate the dynamics of only a specific virtual instruments (say strings), I need to keep it on its own Kontakt instrument tab so it will have it's own fader in the Mix mode? I'd been in the habit of putting multiple instrument patches in the same Kontakt instrument tab (assigned to different midi channels) - which only gives me that 1 slider for the Kontakt instrument. Convenient, but doesn't appear to give me automation granularity for just a single string patch (for example).... Thanks again for the great information!
Great vid as ever! Quick question... I've used the 'Hide' function to hide a volume envelope in the track, and can't find how I can make it reappear! Any ideas gratefully received! 👍
Great video... one question. If I have 2 tracks that I want to automate at same time in Studio One 1) I presume VCA channel for those is the way to go 2) but it seems once I do that there are times when VCA only controls one of the channels instead of 2 - thoughts? Thanks so much. And yes, I just subscribed and liked : )
Definitely clarified a lot! Would love to see some more in depth stuff like eq sweeps where you need to automate several parameters at the same time, like frequency and gain. Is that just a matter of automating both separately, or is there a way to do both at once?
Thank you, very clear tutorial. Is there a way to auto clean up the nodes to reduce them while maintaining the necessary ones to keep the curve? Also is there an interpolation for the node itself?
thanks and it does work but not for all VST instruments, from my own experience Kontakt it's nearly impossible to automate (cutoff etc, there's no way to do that the way you showing), also some StudioLinked instruments, Studio1 just doesn't recognize it's controls, what to do in situation like that ? thanks
Nice, helpful video. I do notice odd things happen to my automated tracks in read mode when I am playing back a track and solo any of the channels. Pressing stop and play again seems to remedy this. Any advice on the cause? Cheers!
just a question, when you say 'I'll just press undo" what are you actually pressing (I've got a PC) - Oh and also - thanks for the tutorial, really helpful. ( iI think I worked it out Control Z, or go to Edit, undo last instruction)
At the beginning you talked about Cakewalk. Now it sounds you prefer Studio One. My simple question is, should I change to Studio One, and suffer through the learning to use it, or just stay where I am now: Cakewalk?
Thanks so much! So if I want to, for instance, make my entire track gradually get louder, then I either create a separate automation track for the main channel or I connect all my tracks to a VCA and then adjust the volume there, correct?

See you there!
By far...the best video on automation I have seen around. At last I see the light at the end of the tunnel. BIG THANKSSSS.
4 people forgot to dislike this video twice. Best tutorial out there right now about automation, tnx!
The best Automation Tutorial EVER! ♥ (in every DAW)

This is really the best video on automation in Studio One and I watched them all. Thank you so much.

So useful. So rare to find someone so adept in studio one who makes such great content. Thank you
You answered my questions and inspired me all in one video!! GREAT content..!! Thanks, Mike!
Very informative. At this rate, with all these tweaking options I learned about from this video, my mixes will never get finished. :-P

For me as a not experienced user of a daw (i started a few weeks ago) your videos are very helpfull. Thanks to you!!!
Just got studio one and had no idea of all it can do. I am very impressed. Think i made a great choice. Thanks
I had a general ideal of automation in studio one after watching this video I have very clear understanding now 👍🏾🔥👍🏾
U are an awesome teacher. Nice n slow n clear explanation. God bless u

Really fantastic video about automation. I learned so much in an easy way. Thank you very much!
Wow, he is amazing teacher, his videos are indeed helpful to me, easy to grasp. Thanks sir..
Great video clearly explained.
The different automation modes were explained and demonstrated very well.
Im quite new to Studio One and when Im not working I am learning all things Studio One.

New to producing. Watched this video and my second beat ever has 4 automations in it. So, that's cool. Thanks for making it very easy to understand!

Exactly what I needed to see. Thanks for a clear, to-the-point presentation of how to use automation in Studio One.
Thanks much, this was a full plate on automation.
I'll be looking for you down the road.
Really, REALLY usefull, your way to explain things is super efficent and the tuto is clean, many thanks 🙏
This is the best info on automation
Great video with really clear explanations of how to automate volume/pan/etc for instrument tracks. The manual is rather confusing on this score.
Great video - never knew how to use VCA properly before, but I do now!!!!
Just great Mike, i love the way you teach stuff and make it so easy to use, thanks a lot!!
Fantastic video.

Again its a nice tutorial...everytime you come up with new video it helps me alot...
The five peopl;e who didnt like this vid, please look at it again. he spells it out very easily'
Thanks Mike - very clear and helpful!!!

Really good, Mike. I would love a follow up video comparing clip, track and midi automation?
Great Instructional Video ...Thank You Too Much !
Is there any shortcut key for midi track write and read?
Ohh, so I just arm it and then i can record plugin movements !! This helped a lot. Thanks for explaining.
Nice one as always Mike. Congratulations on your new set up and 50K subscribers. Missed your giveaway unfortunately but hope that went well too.

Your videos are so great thanks Mike!
how can i automate a plugin to turn on and off?

YEAH! Totally nailed it ! Excellent presentation. Thank You! 🎸🎶
You are so very good at training. Thanks so much!
Wish I was home to try this out!! Thank you!

@@officialWWM Yes! I miss the free trial! :)
@@officialWWM is it better than TRacKs ?
(I used that in the past , and was easy to add some punch to the mix).
Thanks
You are the best Mike!!
Thank you!! Well explained and easy to follow even for my basic level of knowledge.
Hope you are well 😮😮😮
So VCA are a lot more useful than Grouping tracks because of controlling simultaneously different faders proportionally.
🙂🙃😃
sweet wish I would have seen this two years ago lol thanks man

Can you invert an automation lane? I have the sustain pedal recording in reverse problem
This is very helpful! Thanks for sharing!
Really enjoyed this tutorial Mike.
Studio one should send you a check 🤑🤑🤑 this vide has so much value in it a time saver also thanks much appreciated

Thank you! Would you say your favourite DAW is Studio One Pro, or do you usually use a different one?
For automating two Mono tracks simultaneously is a VCA fader the only way? It seems that clip gain envelope is ignored in groups.
Jeez something new everyday. I wanted to do real time (write) so bad on like shimmer strings or quick triplet orch string rises and stuff
How do you "undo" ? In my old Sadie Artemus system, there were tools for undo and redo. In S1, I only know to use CTRL Z. is there another way?
Definitely clarified a lot! Would love to see some more in depth stuff like eq sweeps where you need to automate several parameters at the same time, like frequency and gain. Is that just a matter of automating both separately, or is there a way to do both at once?

my "edit automation" shorcut is missing from the "shortcut list", can any1 help??
Thank you very much, now I also know how to do it, I love Studio One

How do you automate audio pitch bends
Great teacher!!!!
Easy to understand, thanks sir !

Is there a way to make virtual instruments in cakewalk sound more natural?
this was tremendously helpful - thank you!
