I've got Studio One about 3 weeks ago and have watched many of your videos. The level of help they have provided has been eye opening. Clear, concise and easy to follow.
You are an awesome teacher. I'm a long-time musician but fairly new to recording in Studio One. I've also watched your compression and equalization videos. Great stuff! Thank you!!
Only thing missing that you talked about in the video but forgot to go over was automating the mute on/off for sends and inserts. Liked and subscribed!
Nice one as always Mike. Congratulations on your new set up and 50K subscribers. Missed your giveaway unfortunately but hope that went well too. Didn't know about the grey VCA line for fader positions - always learn something from your videos 😊 Now Studio One has retrospective record, key switch lanes and improving score I think I will be with it for sometime so keep up the vids please 👍
Hi Mike! I hope you are doing well. I'm a bit late to the table with watching this video but I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you! I've recently switched to Studio One from using Reaper where automation is dead easy. Your video has helped me out with automation in a big way! Thanks for spelling everything out so clearly. Best regards, Chris 👍🏻
Mike! Your the best! I learned how to automate tonight! I thought it was going to be so hard, but you made it relatively easy! Thank you so much; I love your videos!
Thank you for making this video. I am a new DAW user, (40 years of using analog tape machines), using Studio One, and today was my first attempt at adjusting a track that was peaking out here and there. But with this video my problem has been fixed. And now on to the other thirty one tracks. I am using all analog effects, compressors and eq at this point so the only automaiton I am expecting to use is on the faders.
Thank u! Studio one is such an amazing daw and economic! Best thing I like about automationin studio one is that where ever you click, you can add its autonation! No need to manually add parameter! I have recently subscribed to sphere... Immensely economic deal... Just cant thank presonus enough ...when I was not able to afford cubases and abletons...studio one came as angel! Also thanks to your in-detail tutorials on cakewalk, I use that as well sometimes... Keep guiding us sir
Thank you my friend. I agree with you about Sphere, its great value for money. I hope to see you again in the comments. Please let me know what other S1 tutorials you would like to see:)
@@CreativeSauce yes yes yes please... Looking forward... Also, if you can share some light on details of sphere as I am still figuring it out... (its huge) plugins, packs, what not! So will be a help (I am sure many would want detailed insight on sphere, it is relatively new thing)
super good bro. ive been producing since 13 and i didnt use automation until 3 years in. never took the time to learn the information... always keep that mindset of wanting to learn!!
Mastering has always been a challenge for me so I would skip it and export a mix. I play, write and record. Thank you for this tutorial on mastering. Studio One 5 Pro user and use stock plug-ins. Gonna work at this.
I was doing these things "manually 🤷♂️". By copying tracks and paning each track individually. I was also an idiot, essentially mixing individual midi tracks to create my fades. This just saved me so much time and headaches.
So glad I stumbled upon your channel (and this video in particular). Excellent stuff! I wish I'd taken the time to learn this several years ago! Thanks! Quick 'basics' question: So if I want to be able to automate the dynamics of only a specific virtual instruments (say strings), I need to keep it on its own Kontakt instrument tab so it will have it's own fader in the Mix mode? I'd been in the habit of putting multiple instrument patches in the same Kontakt instrument tab (assigned to different midi channels) - which only gives me that 1 slider for the Kontakt instrument. Convenient, but doesn't appear to give me automation granularity for just a single string patch (for example).... Thanks again for the great information!
Nice Video. One thing you did not touch on was if you want to delete the automaton and start from fresh. However I did learn a tone thank you so much .
Definitely clarified a lot! Would love to see some more in depth stuff like eq sweeps where you need to automate several parameters at the same time, like frequency and gain. Is that just a matter of automating both separately, or is there a way to do both at once?
Thank you, very clear tutorial. Is there a way to auto clean up the nodes to reduce them while maintaining the necessary ones to keep the curve? Also is there an interpolation for the node itself?
Great stuff, clearly explained. I do wish you'd gone the one step further to show and explain the little magic hand icon in the upper-left and how it relates to creating automation though; I think that would complete the automation story.
If you dislike this video hit the dislike button twice.. I love that, if I decide to create content I will most likely borrow that. Lol So helpful, I have subscribed. I had set up Automation and apparently left it set to write and kept seeing random "write Automation" in my history so I was afraid to touch it anymore. Now I see why that happened: switch to read after.. Thanks!
Great video... one question. If I have 2 tracks that I want to automate at same time in Studio One 1) I presume VCA channel for those is the way to go 2) but it seems once I do that there are times when VCA only controls one of the channels instead of 2 - thoughts? Thanks so much. And yes, I just subscribed and liked : )

By far...the best video on automation I have seen around. At last I see the light at the end of the tunnel. BIG THANKSSSS.
I had a general ideal of automation in studio one after watching this video I have very clear understanding now 👍🏾🔥👍🏾
Very informative. At this rate, with all these tweaking options I learned about from this video, my mixes will never get finished. :-P
The best Automation Tutorial EVER! ♥ (in every DAW)
Exactly what I needed to see. Thanks for a clear, to-the-point presentation of how to use automation in Studio One.

Great video with really clear explanations of how to automate volume/pan/etc for instrument tracks. The manual is rather confusing on this score.
