I have been using Konstantinos for years and have always added multiple plugins. Thank you for teaching me this technique. Just subscribed. Thank you, Sir.
Very helpful and inspiring tutorial, thanks 😊 The Factory function in Kontakt 7 is awesome! However, there is one thing I can't seem to figure out and something I have not seen in earlier versions of Studio One and Kontakt. It's rather simple, but a bit difficult to explain in writing 😊: after creating several instrument tracks, assigning them to each channel in Kontakt 7 and activating the channels in Studio One, the control part of all instrument tracks are assigned to the first output channel of Kontakt 7. This means that when I adjust a controller on any of the tracks in the track view - for instance the volumen fader, all volume faders on all tracks assigned to Kontakt 7 will move correspondingly and in the mixer in Studio One, only the first channel is affected by the control movement. In other words, if I want to lower the volume in track 2, which is assigned to output 3/4 in Kontakt, I have to do it in the mixer in Studio One on the output channel, that is assigned to channel 3/4. It is not possible for me to do it directly on the instrument track in the track view. Am I missing something very obvious?
Solved! The instrument Track Routing is hidden by default in Studio One 6. When I unhide it, I'm able to change channel for each instrument track in the Inspector, just like before 😊
I've been watching your videos for long long time, and now I see i'm not subscribed??? oh well, this is a new channel.. great.. I love your videos, you go into great detail explaining even the minor things which most of the other youtubers ignore to explain. Keep up the good work.

hello, just a clarification on the configuration in kontakt in order to automatically assign a free midi channel. I searched a lot to implement it as in the video without having to do it by hand. you have to go to the "parameters" toothed wheel then in the "handling" tab and in midi channel assignment for load patch you have to choose "Assign first free". and it works. Thank you for this new video MIKE. Denis a french user who followed from Cakewalk to Studio one Artist.
Thank you so much. As always, a very clear and concise explanation - super useful. I would love to see a follow-up dealing with how to link keyboard controls to the functions in Kontackt - Studio One works great with most VST's but not with Kontakt (for me anyhow!). Keep up the great work - this channel is pure gold.

Or is it mostly up to personal choice? Thanks, Lou
Mike: Just want to say, I’m overjoyed to see this new channel! I subbed to your Cakewalk channel, but I’m getting into midi big and have been auditioning new DAWs. After Cubase crushed me (lol), I just started looking at Studio 1 and I think I’m already falling in love with it’s clarity. I wanted to watch a video to go deeper into its midi setup and found your new channel! Having you for a guide through Studio 1 has pretty much sealed the deal for me. Instant sub! Good luck with the channel. (and yes, I’m well thank you) 😊
you missed one important thing at the end of "assigning outputs"... you are klicking the instrument track but the correct (2nd or 3rd) mixer-track is not selected with it... it can be solved within track-information > Routing .... if you can't see it, rightclick the (i) for trackinfo and customize the view - check "routing" box. There you can assign the correct mixer-track to the instrument track.... :D
This was an incredible video! And your voice is so calm. Thank you! Do you have any tutorial for automations with Kontakt? - I struggle to use Studio One approaches with Kontakt (especially with Orchestral libraries which have many parameters)
Thank You Mike. I tried to reproduce step by step everty setup that you explained. However, I didn"t succeed because every intrument that I add in Kontakt, replace the former instrument. No way to have them in a selectable list throught the "slide elevator ". Then I still have many troubles with cacaphonic sounds produced by many copies of Kontakts each one in their own tracks and heavy CPU load. May be there is a specific setup of Kontakt elsewhere that I didn't find yet, to let me load many instruments in only one copy of Kontakt. I use Mac Sonoma 14.7.1 with Studio One 7 Pro 7.02 and Kontakt 7.10.7 Thank you for your excellent tutorial
Wow! Great video. I am considering buying Native Instruments plugins. I was wondering how to integrate them into Studio One. Though I have much to learn, your video greatly jumpstarted my understanding.
Thank you so much for this. I was wondering since I had a couple issues with Play or Opus creating multiple outputs in one instance is there somewhere someone can point me where I can learn that? As far as Kontakt, your instructions work flawlessly. Thanks Again.
You a life saver, Sir" am a big fan of Studio One and NI I hope Presonus company watch this video and update or make a studio one 7 were it's automatic make and separate mini channels in Kontakt without so many steps to go thru.
Love the information. Question. When raising volume in the track view all the kontakt instrument go up as one. Channel view they are separated but in track view I slide volume up or down in one they are all tied together. Super annoying and do you have a fix? Thanks.
Another great video Mike! I had been using the multiple instances of Kontakt strategy due to its simplicity. Is there really a measurable CPU gain using one instance versus multiple instances?
Its actually not clear cut, since it's kind of dependant on which libraries. Personally I do it coz I like the way it's organised. But for projects with less than about 8 libraries, I usually don't bother.
Thanks for this...this should save on processor use vs. opening multiple kontakt instances yes? Also, are there any advantages to using komplete control?
Hi Mike, thanks for this lucid explanation. I roughly knew some of this, but would struggle each time I could get the meters to work, with no sound being produced. This is the most helpful video I’ve seen in the year and a half since I decided to learn how to create and produce music. I follow your Creative Sauce channel, as well; however the videos that you’ve made in this new channel are helping me a lot more (due in part to me using both SO and Kontakt and upgrading both recently). If I may make a request, it would be very helpful understanding the relationship between Kontakt and Komplete, especially when loading in multiple Kontakt instruments into SO. The main reason for this request is that the lights on Komplete Kontrol keyboards only light up the keyboard to match the colored Kontakt keyboard when Kontakt is loaded as an instrument within Komplete. Having key switches highlighted on the keyboard is very helpful to me, and is one of the reasons I opted for a KK keyboard. I suppose I could simply load Komplete and open Kontakt, get the performance down, then drag the midi onto the same Kontakt instrument in SO. It seems like there would be a way to cut out the intermediate step, but I haven’t found it. I wish I could give you multiple thumbs up for this one! Thanks!!!
Thank you, and a great suggestion. I agree, the lights are very helpful - especially for keyswitches. I tend to load instruments via Komplete when I do this TBH.
My understanding is that Komplete Kontrol is mono-timbral. So, by loading Kontakt within KK, you gain lights and knobs, but lose multi-timbrality. So, this means you can use it for 1 Kontakt instrument at a time. But if you want to load multiple instruments into Kontakt (as the 2nd half of this video is demonstrating), that needs to be done directly through Kontakt, not within the KK wrapper.
Great video. Easy to understand and follow. Im assuming this saves CPU. Its not merging several instruments to record at the same time on 1 track but rather, the idea is 1 track and sub tracks to record seperately?
Hi I had a template in studio one for my studio drummer with each drum having its own channel but since the update that disappeared and I'm having trouble doing it again can you do a short video how to in the new Kontact 7 please
I've gone from spending quite some time learning this way of using one instance of Kontakt 7 in Studio One and have really got it down pat. Unfortunately I did an "update" to Kontakt 7 and now I'm lost again. Everything has been changed to the point where I'm having to learn how to use Kontakt 7 all over again. Is there a way of going back to Kontakt 7 to where it was before I did the update? If not, would it be possible for Mike to do another video on this subject using the updated version of Kontakt 7? It sure would be so much appreciated by a total newb to Studio One and Kontakt 7 😁
This is great? Really like and enjoy your style of instruction. I learned another way to do this in Kontakt 6 from Marcus. Looks like I'll need to upgrade. QUESTION: Can you do this with Impact XT? I know I can setup multi-outs (channels) from a single instance of Impact as well as setting up multiple tracks and assign each pad to the associated channels/tracks. But I don't seem to be able to record different pads on their associated tracks without having the other pads record on the same selected track. In effect, if I am setup this way and record arm two tracks (pads) for, let's say, kik (track 1) and snare (track 2) and try to record them simultaneously, I get both pads on both tracks. I'm aware of "Explode Pitches to Tracks," but I don't like it's workflow. Would prefer to set up a template with all the pads broken out and assigned to associated outputs "and tracks". Can Impact XT work this way? If so, what am I missing?
Can you help me to understand why you would do this? I have always just added multiple Kontakt instruments and have never bundled them together. Each trumpet has its own kontakt channel and instrument. Does this method save memory or loading times?
Thanks Mike. I would never have worked this out by myself. Oddly enough, I can't get it to work in S1 6 (I can only get a maximum of two instruments) but it works fine in S1 5. It might be as simple as just doing a reboot as I've only just installed ver 6. Can I also just add that I'm always very impressed at how you manage to record the audio for these tutorials without (seemingly) doing any editing / correcting; you just talk your way through it without any pauses or fumbles! And thankfully you don't do any of these sudden cuts and zooms in the video that make me feel like the presenter is trying to headbutt me! 🙂 Once again, a tutorial on drums with seperate outputs for each would be great. Thanks again.
Thanks Angus. That is really odd, only being able to add 2 instruments. Let me know how you go. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Sometimes getting through without mumbles and fumbles takes a few tries!
Hi Mike, thank you for what you do. I learnt a lot from this video however there is one thing that I’m stuck on. I have downloaded all the Presonus Symphony Orchestra instrument files onto my SSD and can access them through Notion however how do I get them into Kontakt? I can only see the Kontakt sounds and instruments and some other 3rd party ones but don’t know how to get Kontakt to see specific files. Hope you can help. Cheers, Geoff
Thanks for this great video! I am new to this and it was really helpful. One question though. What are the aux outputs (1-4) in Kontact used for? They just keep getting bumped down the line as you add new outputs, but are never actually used.
This seems to be a silly Kontakt issue, finally solved in Kontakt 7. It might be worth upgrading just for the logical consistency now! (Presumably, Auxes would be used within Kontakt as Auxes -- routing internal effects. But assigning Auxes as outputs which then move over and create actual outputs, while in S1 still being called Auxes... Ahhhh! So messy! Kontakt 7 moves beyond the madness, finally.)
I’m trying to switch to S1 from Pro Tools and it’s interesting because some things are much easier in S1 and smarter and then some stuff seems really weirdly designed to me in S1, after 20 years of pro tools.
Great video Mike. I currently subscribe to the East West Composer Cloud. Your video has me interested in Kontakt which I have never used before. Any thoughts on how the sound libraries compare and whether a Kontakt subscription would be a better value?
It's a tricky question Steve, as there are some good libraries in East West, si it depends on if there are some you are attached to. On the other hand, there are many more Kontakt libraries made by 3rd parties which are 1st class (Eg Spitfire). As a system though, I personally prefer Kontakt/Komplete.
Mike, great video, and I'm loving the new channel! Question: What exactly is the benefit of using a single instance of Kontakt vs. separate copies? I haven't seen anyone nail this down besides the general idea that multiple copies cost more CPU. Do they really? Is there some other benefit? Thanks and rock on with the videos!
Is there a way in Kontakt 7 to add multiple instruments from the new browser view? I like being able to audition the sounds from browser view but if I select it from that view, it just replaces the previous sound.
There are significant differences between Kontakt 7 and Kontackt 7 Player in terms of the GUI. Many of the icons in the full version are not available in Player. It would be great to do a version of setup with plain 7 given that the output and other information differ quite a bit and as a Player user, I'm spending a bunch of time figuring out the differences. This is a powerful tool, however spending hours on the differences between the full and Player versions is frustrating.
Thank you for repeating steps each time you show each new method. It's a great way of teaching because the brain gets jumbled with all the information and that repeat gets one back on track without the constant rewind.

Nicely done Mike ,-)
Great tutorial!
Excellent expanation. Much appreciated.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching Ben!
best teacher ever!
Great Job! Thank You so much.
What camera are you using, it looks amazing
Just got my first Kontakt plugin. They should rebrand as Komplikated. 🤔 I'll get used to it. The video is super-helpful though, much appreciated.
Great tutorial. Thank you sir
wow this is crazy, learned something here
Thanks and very well explained !
Once again, a tutorial on drums with seperate outputs for each would be great.
Well done Mike!! Ty. Curious, is there a way to create a "Track Preset" for multi instrument / single Kontakt instances?
Thanks for this tutorial Sir, this means your pc will not overworked due to many instruments?
thank you Sensei, subbed
Is it possible to color the channels in Kontackt and /or can they follow the colors in studio one?
that's so usefull! thanks!!!
thank you for that kinda video !!!
Mike, great video, and I'm loving the new channel! Question: What exactly is the benefit of using a single instance of Kontakt vs. separate copies? I haven't seen anyone nail this down besides the general idea that multiple copies cost more CPU. Do they really? Is there some other benefit? Thanks and rock on with the videos!
interesting question. The answer is some lines down.
Is there a way in Kontakt 7 to add multiple instruments from the new browser view? I like being able to audition the sounds from browser view but if I select it from that view, it just replaces the previous sound.
Do you have to use the NI Kontakt keyboard to use this function?
Hi Mike. I did that and when I enable outputs, and I get to 11,12 S1 shuts down. Please help.
Excellent!!! Thank you!!!
My pleasure!
I wrote my parts in Notion and dumped it to MIDI. how do I make it sound good with Native?
There are significant differences between Kontakt 7 and Kontackt 7 Player in terms of the GUI. Many of the icons in the full version are not available in Player. It would be great to do a version of setup with plain 7 given that the output and other information differ quite a bit and as a Player user, I'm spending a bunch of time figuring out the differences. This is a powerful tool, however spending hours on the differences between the full and Player versions is frustrating.
