You could have taken advantage of USB PD and gotten a USB-C to 2.5mm DC jack cable with 20V handshake. -No need to include the XGIMI power brick in the build -More power efficient since you have less high voltage devices using the AC inverter -The power station already supports it
The captions are nice but I think it's better to just rely on the transcript being uploaded to youtube so those who want to see them can, and those who don't... don't.
It is kind of odd he burned in the captions into the video when he also uploaded the captions along with the video. You can tell the CCs on youtube's end aren't auto-generated ones.
youtubers do this shit on purpose so it generates comments. comments feed the algorithm and help the video. in this case i don't mind giving the comment over it because this channel is awesome and if he has to play the obnoxious (society destroying) youtube rat-race game in order for more people to see his amazing stuff, so be it. i just wish youtube wasn't so gross.
@@thenullco Hell no, that's a horrible way to do captions. This is (almost) the universal way of doing captions, white text with a small dark border, no background. If you need more legible captions because of accessibility reasons, you can always use the built in version of YT to overwrite the ones on screen. Usually I'm all for choice, but captions should be a default. They don't get in the way of anything, they just help. Relying on YT to keep their captions available also isn't an option, since YT likes to change things around form time to time, so baking them into the video is a great option.
captions are really important a11y option, but at the same time they need to be able to be turned off. You can upload a transcript to youtube and people can use the more accessible built in captions if they also want to use screenreaders / braille devices.
As person who uses closed captions daily, I'm very pleased with the intention of adding captions to your video. However, there's no way to personalize and other ppl who doesn't need them might find them cumbersome and hinder their viewing experience. I'd prefer using youtube integrated CC so we can decide ourseleve if we want big, small, normal, the opacity, a background and etc... Still thanks for intention ! (Anticipating the replies, no, using youtube CC to overwrite the videos caption is not an otpion, what kind of madlad would want to see two captions one atop of another, that's terrible)
You can simplify this setup a little bit further. Since the dji power 100 does usbc charging up to 140w you could get a usbc to that barrel connector for the projector, rather than the dc > ac > dc with the ac mains adapter.
As a fellow geek and gadget guru I can only say that my ultimate goal is to be able to have the set up that you do to make these kinds of projects. Since I do not, watching you do what I can only wish too, is the next best thing. One word, Insane! I have a couple of 3D printers but not the good ones like you have. However, you did inspire me to try and use them more to make the things I always wanted to. Thank you for the great video, I'm looking forward to the next project.
Idk why everyone’s hating on the captions. They’re not my favorite but I didn’t really even notice them. Great project man and if you like the captions keep them it’s your channel.
“The only thing I had to do was wait for the sun to set” was a fun one 😂 Since I had already been thinking throughout the video about how silly an outdoor projector would be during the summer, everybody knows that the sun doesn’t set until late August! 😂🇸🇪🌞
While subwoofers arent that directional, you normally want it facing a wall to redirect the sound back into the room. Outside you will lose almost all of the energy if its facing away from you..
That amp is available as a regular flat board too instead of a panel mount. It could have gone in the center along the top of the shelf with the sub right above it, centered and pointing at you.
Also bass not being directional is a lie. It may not be as important to the soundstage as treble, but a trained ear can absolutely hear when a single sub is off center.
I'm thinking use this at night, of course, and get some dry ice and maybe some small fans and rig a way to do a cascading fog effect, at night. When a projector is aimed into fog the image is 3D. Then play some HD remastered "Silent Hill."
Next way to level this thing up is by adding the smallest possible homemade “computer” essentially that has the ability to run emulators as well as its own WIFI supply. Then you can have an N64, Gameboy, PS1/2/3/4/5, or whatever else your heart desires slapped straight onto this relatively small outdoor package that is completely self sufficient with a decent sound system, a projector, charging capabilities, and so much more. THAT would be amazing. Almost zero wires, complete freedom, easy access to all of your favorites, modular, mobile, and seamless connections to various platforms. Brilliant. Love what you have so far. Excited to see if you take a leap in the direction I’m suggesting 😎
I really like your videos Zac, but why are there captions on this one? (I have turned the youtube created captions off). Please no captions in the future, I find them distracting, and if needed there is a CC button on each video for those who need that help. Thanks for your cool projects!
UA-cam's autogenerated captions aren't always reliable as they sometimes have a dentence to mishear the words spoken leading them to be incomprehensable. If the creator wanted 100% reliable captions on their videos, they'd need to manually input them. Zac probably just decided to cut out the middle mad and add them into the video itself.
@@artcasual99 no, what he did was put a bunch of garbage with misspellings on top of his video making it look like we are watching pirated content. If he went through the work of adding transcripts to his video editing software then he already has the transcripts and could have just uploaded it to UA-cam so people with sanity could have turned them off.
Do the internal gaming system. Even if you take a current system and just deconstruct it to build into the system. The drawer system could be used as the housing and be interchangeable to make different choices of systems. PS5, Nintendo, XBox, Steam Deck. Lol.
This is so well made. I definitely want to see a part two. I'm curious about other projects you could make with this tech. As soon as you showed the ability to charge with a folding solar panel, I immediately thought how cool it'd be to have whats basically a folding awning, so you can have shade and protection during the day while charging it for use at night
Really cool! One future upgrade you could look at, since the whole setup draws less than 100W, is you could move the power to the USB-C on the power station. You wouldn't need those more bulky AC power supplies anymore, and it would be more efficient since you're not running the AC inverter on the power station along with the power losses that would come from converting the battery DC to AC and then back to DC again. That would also mean a longer runtime in the end!
Please get rid of subtitles.... UA-cam has built in CC if people want it, others like myself have a hard time focusing on the video because we auto read the captions instead.
i dont mind the captions, but i wish they were all spelled correctly lol. i agree that ideally they should be done through UA-cam’s closed captioning button and left as optional
HERES AN IDEA - Add A Laser Beam Output To The ZACBOX And Direct It To A Tree Trunk Located Behind The ZACBOX That Has A Mirror That Reflects The Laser Beam Directly INTO The Photo Cell On The Street mLight To Make It Turn Off! LOL!
I love what you’re doing. I think it would be cool to design the drawer as a “port” where you can create different drawers for different consoles/media devices. Using that form factor for a pi, dvd/bluray player, Wii, PlayStation slim, or whatever else you might want to use with your projector.
You could try the LattePanda Sigma for the mini gaming SBC, even though it came with an onboard mid-range graphic chipset, it also has an M.2 slot that supports PCIe 4.0 x4 for further expansion.
I think you had plenty of space for tweeters! But this is a really cool idea. If I had a need and the money I'd be looking to make my own! Also, the captions are a bit distracting, but thats just me.
would definitely like to see a part 2 or something on this project. a mini PC projector would be sick and you dont have to use the built in OS on the projector
Love the video. Would definitely watch a part 2. And I agree with everyone else, the embedded captions are annoying. If I want them I can just turn them on with UA-cam.
Remove captions please. Great video and one that I will mark as, "No, you ARE NOT building this!" lol Such an ingenious build. Sponsors benefit from videos like this. And well, you benefit from sponsors, lol. Adding a Pi is meh, unless you are going to do the image from scratch and document it. Then I say go for it.
i'd love to see a part two of you trying to add a whole gaming system. maybe use an sbc and install something like retropie or batocera and it could be a cool outdoor retro multiplayer system.

Awesome project You could have used USB-C Power delivery trigger board to power the amp, and probably the projector too, it would have been probably more efficiant :) Thanks DJI
Cool build as always Zac, thanks for posting! I hope not too many people put in the energy to clack their little fingers on their keyboard and trash talk your 3D printers like it's actually worth their time these days 😂
cool project, i was thinking you could put a storage device in that drawer to connect to the projector to play your favorite movies and connect to the pi to play games
I’ve been thinking about something I’ve wanted to do, but can’t afford all of the tools to get it done. Then of course to keep it all cool use some thermal pads in the middle of the two boards and a decent fan and filter to help with airflow.
Back in the OG Xbox days, I took my projector around to a mate's place and shot it onto the side of the neighbours house. Playing games on a white brick wall at over 25 feet was insane! Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best (drizzly rain and humid) and ended up getting mould in the projector. 😕
Oh part 2? I would go for one of the new laser projectors that shot the image for just below the screen that way your sound system will work better and less tripping hazards out side. I made one like this but it was just a set up that could easily fit in a box and one major repeating problem is tripping on the speaker cables

This should be higher up! Exactly what I thought.
Those "SDC" ports on the front actually output 12v directly as well (depending on what the projector/amp take)
@@rickmuk the projector is 19V
Yes, and plenty of existing DC->DC options as most laptops run at 19v
