Thomas Camacho I’m looking into getting a hand gun (my first ). I turn 21 soon... and I’ve been looking into this particular gun. Would you recommend it?

@@dakotahf I just realized i actually have the .40cal shield, not the 9mm. mine was also used but I cleaned/oiled and shot it once so far. It was loud af but it i can see myself getting used to the power. although since I just recently educated myself on what caliber means vs. mm in guns, i should of started with the S&W 9mm shield because that has less power than the .40cal. eitherway, im glad I got a gun that most people are reviewing highly of. I actually bought the performance shield today as well. It is .40cal too. Again, im still a novice but ive been reading and practicing handling the gun and I wanted two guns, one for concealed carry and one to be at my house. For recommendation, I would say go for it because Ive read good things about this gun. Before I irrationally bought the performance shield today, I was looking into glocks and in the store they showed me this really nice glock (i forgot what caliber/mm it was) but it fit nice and the gun was so clean looking.

@@dakotahf To answer your question yes I would recommend this, I just turned 21 and its my first hand gun. Shoots very accurately and has a great feel to it. Also its a great gun to be used with a conceal and carry permit. Very compact. Also the gun comes with two mags so its a pretty good deal. If you look around you will notice this is one of the top guns to buy anyway so yea its a good gun would recommend.

I've got a 9mm, and a 40.cal. Just remember.... IT WILL FIRE WITH THE MAGAZINE OUT, AND A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER!!! Be careful with that sucker, and ALWAYS check to be sure that the weapon is cleared before you go screwing around with it. It just takes a second. Nice selection for a first time owner Shields are the bomb.

Good video. Only one recommendation: after pulling the slide back, and locking it in place, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to lower the yellow seer deactivation lever. The seer deactivation lever that Smith & Wesson is implemented in their M&P Shields is a lever that is used to deactivate the trigger. Then rotate your takedown lever 90-degrees. release slide, and then you can pull off the frame without pulling the trigger. Doing it this way reduces wear on the trigger mechanism.

Good vid, one exception, you do NOT have to pull the trigger to remove the slide. With slide locked back, pull the slide release lever down, then grab the slide and pull to the rear (with the sear lever down) and the slide comes off. Without pulling the trigger.

with this video i just found out about the unlocking the slide and pulling the trigger. Seems much easier but is a bit more nerve racking if someone sees you doing it. I have to field strip for my CCW test. I'm going to find out what my instructor says about the 'pulling the trigger' during the field strip. I don't think he'd appreciate it too much. especially since its at the range.

Read the manual, use only 1 small drop of oil at ALL 7 designated locations, 2 on the barrel, the four rail slides and a very light touch of oil on the trigger bar were it touches the striker safety and the seer. Too much oil will leave you gun a mess and will collect/attract dirt that can/will foul your gun. Also you gun may be equipped with a little yellow lever that you push down to release the seer so that you don't have to pull the trigger to release the slide for cleaning. It is outlined in your manual, if you don't have the manual you can download it at the Smith&Wesson site, or call the customer service number (they are very responsive). It is a great way to prevent accidental discharges and worth getting in the habit of using if you have it. Also use a brass wire brush to clean the barrel, it will get to both the surface and the groves. If you don't have a cleaning kit, you can get one at Walmart for 10 bucks, well worth it. They also have cleaning patches and Hoppes solvent and oil. Good luck.

GREAT!!! I work for a security company and will be taking my advance gun class for conceal and carry permit. I don’t know if it’s part of my testing but I wanted to know before I took the class how to break it down clean it and put it back together. Your video was exactly what I needed. I am no stranger to a gun and I am a pretty decent shooter but one thing I have never had to do is clean it. So thank you very much for all of your help!!!

Thanks for the video. I was going nuts trying to field strip this Shield Plus Performance Center model I just picked up. It's the little things we fail to do that make us take an easy job and make it difficult; I simply did not turn the slide lock all the way down. LOL. The Performance Plus has a small lever that has to be moved/pivoted in the Magazine well in addition to the steps you mentioned. Well done.

If you don’t want to pull the trigger....while gun is empty, is pointed to the left, slide is locked back (the lock is on- lever on the left is placed up and down) look down the mag shaft and on the right side is a yellow curved lever that runs up and down the shaft that you rotate (move from right to left- using a pointed tip) from 12oclock towards 9 oclock that allows you to slide the top right off. Wish i could take a photo to show you.

The instructions that come with the shield say to lube the barrel hood and also about 1/4 inch of the outside of the barrel in front, and also where the pin is some models you have to flip up to disassemble.

Common sense will determine the lubrication points. Areas where Metal to metal contact and movement occur need lubricant as long as it will not effect the operation of the gun. A good chuck grease from a lathe chuck is an excellent grease. It is graphite based and repels water

LOL thats funny but Ill tell you a new M&P can be extremely tight till its been fired at least the recommended 100+ rounds and even then the slide release and the the takedown can be fairly difficult that is exactly why they came out with the new M&P EZ.

I just bought the 9 ez. That slide lever is tough as hell. I cannot release it without pulling back the slide. Not sure if it’s the design or it’s new. The regular shield 9, I can push the lever no issue. But it’s also had thousands of rounds through it.

@@alexusballantyne345 use both thumbs, if you cant release the slide how are you gonna slap a new clip in and chamber a round? idk why S&W made the slide release lever so tough

My future wife’s gun. She has tiny hands and is petite. I love it, but boy is it small! My hands wrap around it and it becomes hardly visible. This specific model is a perfect EDC. Breaking down this gun can be a little tricky and always trips me out pulling the trigger to get the slide off.

ALWAYS THINK SAFETY - Treat every gun loaded or not, as if IT IS LOADED. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction. Don't touch the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Don't point a firearm at anything you don't wish to destroy. My Grandad hammered these rules into my head as a small boy. Follow them and you'll be fine. Have fun at the range and stay safe.

Best to run a wet patch through the barrel and let it sit while cleaning the slide. Use a toothbrush to scrub the slide faster. Then wipe it out and run a bore brush and dry patches through the barrel until clean. Finish with an oiled patch through the barrel with a jag.
