Man, my grandma who's 86 and has memory problems has always been a walking jukebox, and he's always singing this song around the house and it sounds amazing
One of my mothers fave songs. I lost her back in March of this year at the age of 96. I was brought up with these movies . I feel closer to her by watching them.
I'm so very sorry about the loss of your mother. I think of mine every single day. Several of those terrific songs of her younger years are triggers that cause me to feel closer to my mother. Aren't we lucky to have such a wonderful way to escape into those fond memories!
I love this movie. I always thought they had an awfully nice big well-decorated house for a farmhouse. But it's Hollywood, so just enjoy. My Mama used to sing this while she was dusting. And 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'.
Only bad old movies, and this one--despite the nice song--must have been abysmal. She's singing the lyric that she hasn't seen a crocus, etc., and yet it's clearly SUMMER!
Indeed--dubbed. Most of those old musicals have dubbed voices for the songs unless the actor/actress was known as a singer. Marni Nixon in particular was known for dubbing songs in film musicals. She sang for Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady," Deborah Kerr in "The King and I," and Natalie Wood in "West Side Story."
The things I used to like, I don't like any more, I want a lot of other things I've never had before, It's just like my mama says, I sit around and mourn Pretending that I am so wonderful and knowing I'm adored I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm, I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string, I'd say that I had spring fever, But I know it isn't spring. I'm as starry eyed and gravely discontented, Like a nightingale without a song to sing. Oh, why should I have spring fever, When it isn't even spring? I keep wishing I were somewhere else, Walking down a strange new street, Hearing words I have never never heard, From a man I've yet to meet. I'm as busy as a spider spinning daydreams, I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing, I haven't seen a crocus or a rosebud, Or a robin or a bluebird on the wing, But I feel so gay in a melancholy way, That it might as well be spring, It might as well be, might as well be, It might as well be spring.
I was out for a walk this morning and for some reason this song suddenly came into my head so - UA-cam search and here it is! Notice than in 1946 gay meant happy.
My wife and I went to see LaLa Land, after 30 min my wife turned to me and asked ",Are you enjoying this"I said " No" . so we went home and put on a R and H musical.
This beautiful song is so wistful and personal that it does not take to dubbing, as is the case with both versions of “State Fair”. Such a pity that Sandra Dee was not cast in 1962 ; she had a nice singing voice, as we heard in “Tammy, Tell Me True”.
My choir is performing this along with other songs from musicals I've never heard of ((along with Sound of Music songs)) for our concert in a little less than a month...we just got the music not even a full 7 days ago.
I'm watching this movie right now on FXM channel. Free movies on demand. One thing great about movies on demand, the movies play for a period of time, any time you want. This one is showing till 8-1-2021. This is my 2nd time watching.
It's been a long time since i heard this ol' ditty. It's almost late on Easter Sunday. I thought i come here for a springlike tune. But I'm more of a summer fan as a SoCal native!
pen64 Wrong! She was dubbed by a woman named Anita Gordon who also lent her voice to Micky and the Beanstalk as the harp, and the movie version of "Paint Your Wagon."
Ms Crain was 19 or 20 when she made State Fair, not in her 30s, and played a young lady of marriageable age - therefore nothing incongruous here. When she did get married, she stayed married to the same man and had 7 children.
"In the 1945 film Jeanne Crain played Margy Frake, [1] Margy's singing voice being dubbed by Louanne Hogan". Dubbing was more the rule than the exception.
Then you'll really be disappointed. Even the ones who could sing, (Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jane Powell, et. al.) lip-synched to pre-recorded soundtracks during movie muscial numbers. Their singing with the orchestra was always recorded first, before they sang and danced either on a soundstage or on location. Then and today. They've done that since "The Jazz Singer".
@@artistmac A key difference is that the professional singers (Sinatra, Day et al.) who prerecorded and then lip synced their songs were not dubbed by other singers, as Jeanne Crain was.
Wonderful as Crain is here, she was no singer. Louanne Hogan dubbed for her. And does a very convincing job of it--you'd almost believe that's Crain's voice. But it's not.
Man, my grandma who's 86 and has memory problems has always been a walking jukebox, and he's always singing this song around the house and it sounds amazing
Sounds like you have memory problems to, a grandma is usually a woman.
I am 86 and this has been a favourite since I saw this film as a child
In a world gone mad, these songs are a source of joy and comfort.
And the movie's postwar American setting couldn't be timelier

I losst my Mom recently and I miss her more each day.
She looks like a portrait come alive! ❤ so nostalgic, so mesmerising ❤

When it zooms in on Harry’s message to her and she just rolls her eyes, that says it all about their relationship. Show don’t tell done right.
Jeanne Crain was so beautiful.
I know right? Giving me judy garland vibes here!
One of the best songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein
💯%
A beautifully done Oscar-winning song from a beautifully done musical film.
It's been a long time since I've seen it
My dad always used to laugh at the fact that as she was draped lazily in the window, she was saying "I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string"
😊
Hahahahha!!!! Sooo true!! 🤣😂 Aww 🥰 🤓🤪🙂😃 a smart dad you have!! ❤️ 🎞 🎷🎤🎹🎻🎺 🎼 🕷 😴 💤 😍 😴
Truth!😅
I think it’s more of an internal feeling she’s talking about
Perhaps an animator should have dropped a spider down alongside "Miss Muffet" and had it sing that verse line ... .
I,Ve been addicted to that song since 1945"""my number one of all song in a musical
It's a beautiful song, especially the lyrics. One of Hammerstein's best, I think.
Great 👍 movie 🎬 🎞 and song 🎵.
Such a beautiful music. That song became also a Jazz standart, thats why I came here :-) Greetings from germany. Stay healthy everybody!
Jeanne Crain was so enchanting!
Fantastic Career, pure class and charm. Soooo beautiful!!! ❤
Lovely early technicolor and lighting.
I'm using this song for my school musical audtion Monday
good choice!
No one ever asked you how it went. Did you get the part?
How did it go? Are you on Broadway yet? 😁😉
I know I’m 3 years late, but I hope it went well!
Did you get the part you wanted?
I like how the cows aren't moving at all. lol I love these old movies.
I like how the teats are sticking straight out. lol I love these old movies.
Filmed in MILTON KEYNES..!!
Perhaps the cows were not moo-ved by the song.
Only bad old movies, and this one--despite the nice song--must have been abysmal. She's singing the lyric that she hasn't seen a crocus, etc., and yet it's clearly SUMMER!
It looks like a painted backdrop to me, so of course they aren't moving.
1:02 The actor in the picture (Phil Brown) is the same one who would play "Uncle Owen" in the first Star Wars movie.
A great favourite song to sing in Care Homes. Music can aid memory recall for those with dementia.
this song has been covered by so many. and rightly so. great song.
One of my favourite songs. Beautiful melody and lyrics.
A really lovely tune I'd first heard back in the mid-60s as a piano tune and never heard again, but never forgot.
I love this film and the outfits are to die for!
I have never heard Jeanne Crain sing before; wonderful voice.
According to Wikipedia, her voice was dubbed by Louanne Hogan in this picture and later ones where she was sbown singing.

You have so many lyrics incorrect. Nice effort tho.😊

I'm young, La La Land is a good movie but i love an ol' Rogers and Hammerstein musical myself. I've been a fan of them since Cinderella.
another wonderful song by the legendary R&H
Great scene. Nicely done. I can't stay away.
This always reminds of my childhood, back in the Big Apple. Now I'm back in good old, tropical Philippines. And I'm 50.
Thank you for the romantic lyrics to this great song, “Suzanne c-j”. Most young people will never listen to songs from musicals. N☺️
shes so pretty omgg that dress is just 🤩
In 1955 I was 5 years old, we lived near them on Outpost Cove Drive.
When my mother was dying of cancer she used to take care of me.
What lovely decade!

This song really sums up my feelings toward spring. The best time of the year.
Agreed!!
In my humble opinion...absolutely, hands down, the most beautiful actress in Hollywood at that time.
One of my favourite standard song...
Winner of the best song Academy Award for 1945
Good for the soul. Back when my mother was young, America too.
LOVED HER!!
I Love her! I just did an audition for Cabaret. I did get a callback.🎉🎉🎉
Where did you find the sheet music to match this film? I'm planning on using this song as an audition for The Wizard of Oz.
@@AnastasiaWarden hello. I wrote the words and practiced myself. I did the physical movements and dressed similarly for my audition.
Beautiful!
I sang this song for the Senior 4-H variety show at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia.
Saw the film many moon ago - have also sung this song see what you think

Actually, Miss Crain is lip syncing here - a woman named Louanne Hogan dubbed the Vocals for her...
pen64 Wrong! She was dubbed by a woman named Anita Gordon who also lent her voice to Micky and the Beanstalk as the harp, and the movie version of "Paint Your Wagon."
Anita Gordon, b. 1929, age 16 in 1945, dubbed the 1962 film. Louanne Hogan, b. 1919, age 26 in 1945 did the 1945 film dub heard here.
it was LOUANNE HOGAN NOT ANITA GORDON DEVIN!!! Anita Gordon dubbed Pamela Tiffin in the 1962 movie
Oh, crap...here's an idea. Hire actresses who can actually sing.

Beautifully sung by Ms Hogan and superbly lip synced by Jeanne Crain
Amo essa música
I did not know she could sing. I just loved her in many western movies and also her act in the Paris Sisters song video "I Love How You Love Me"
