  • lyrics here....
Why should a woman who is healthy and strong
Blubber like a baby if her man goes away
A weepin' an' a whalin' how he's done her wrong
That's one thing you'll never hear me say
Never gonna think that the man I lose is the only man
    among men
I'll snap my fingers to show I don't care
I'll buy me a brand new dress to wear I'll scrub my neck
And I'll brush my hair and start all over again
Many a new face will please my eye many a new love
    will find me
Never have I once looked back to sigh over the romance
    behind me
Many a new day will dawn before I do many a like lad may
    kiss and fly
A kiss gone by is bygone never have I asked an August sky
"Where has last July gone" never have I wandered through
    the rye
Wondering "where has some guy gone"
Many a new day will dawn before I do
Many a new face will please my eye
Many a new love will find me never have I once looked back
Many a new day will dawn before I do
Never have I chased the honeybee who carelessly cajoled me
Somebody else jist as sweet as he cheered me and
    consoled me
Never have I wept into my tea over the deal someone doled me
Many a new day will dawn many a red sun will set
Many a blue moon will shine before I do
Many a new face will please my eye many a new love will
    find me
Never have I once looked back to sigh over the romance
    behind me
Many a new day will dawn many a red sun will set
Many a blue moon will shine before......
Many a blue moon will shine before I do

Shirley Jones was on a school trip to NYC when she auditioned "on a lark" for Rogers. He immediately crossed the street to get Hammerstein. A star was born. She had planned to be a vet.

I'm sorry love. I got out of a 3 year, very painful, abusive relationship in July. One of my alzheimers clients loves musicals and we've watched this one several times over the course of these last few months. They calm him down when he's raging. At first it was agony hearing it and now it's comforting. That's so cheesy but it's true. Makes me feel like I'm moving on to a new stage I guess. I'm sorry about you're ex but you'll get through it. Let your heart be light.

Way back when these big musicals came out the songwriters were simply supreme. Rogers and Hammerstien, Cole Porter, Iving Berlin and many others,Their writing made these musicals stand out and sent us all home from the theatres and cinemas singing the songs, songs which were destined to live on for years. I am an 85 year old guy, and I can recall lots of the words and tunes from these epics. I wonder just how many of todays modern tunes and music will last as long?

This was my high school 'theme song' - when I tired of one I tried another! But when the love of my life, my first husband, a Army Lt., was killed in 1965, it didn't work anymore but with two little ones I was plenty busy and tried not to think. Eventually I remarried but never found that 'feeling' again but then again I could never be 18 again!
I was blessed that I had a grandmother who loved the Broadway musicals and took me to the Theater Under the Stars productions every summer (in Atlanta) and the movies when they came out - she bought two season tickets just so I could go with her and created my everlasting love of the Broadway stage.

I have the DVD as part of an R&H box set. I would just like everyone to get a look at the whole number. Over time I have found that the people who hold the rights are very strict and have any full presentation taken down. This goes against the general trend of media companies seeing posts as promotion, but it's their choice.

It's a shame that so much of Agnes DeMille's choreography was cut out of this. It was created for this sequence and not in the stage play until after the movie came out. She based it on 19th century ballet, which most young ladies of any breeding would have studied to perfect their posture and movement.

In addition to her performance in the film, Shirley also did a terrifc job singing this number on the ED SULLIVAN SHOW! This rendition is available on UA-cam.

What gift of genius inspired Rodgers and Hammerstein to write this and other astonishing musicals ? Their names probably unknown to most people under 30, their work will live on

I love In My own Little corner from Cinderella, I even sang it in a concert. My fave musical of theirs is Oklahoma and Sound of Music though. and probably a lot more people under 30 love them, though maybe without knowing it.

      @flan453 10 років тому +2

Well done. I love Oklahoma! as well. But the Sound of Music is hard to beat for its charm. When I was a younger I thought The King and I was their best work. I was also surprised to discover that 'You'll never walk alone' a favourite English football anthem, is from Carousel ! It is a very moving song and always brings tears to my eyes

Who butchered this scene? One of my favorite dance numbers, that shows the magic of Agnes De Mille's choreography, happens here, but a major chunk of the scene is missing. Why was it edited? Boo.

musicaltheatergeek79 The complete scene is in the film in it's entirety and is one of my favorite scenes in the film. But this snippet on youtube was clearly butchered and that was the point I was making.

Mark Gailmor It's too bad they cut parts of this number out! I believe they cut it twice! 😑 I love the choreography here also! They sure don't make them like this anymore!

I'm back to tell everyone that the complete number with all the dancing has been recently posted, in HD and with great sound. It's listed on You Tube as: Shirley Jones-Oklahoma! (1955)-Many a New Day. The same for Kansas City and the entire Dream Ballet with Out of My Dreams. Enjoy!

  • @rockshot100
    @rockshot100 4 роки тому +1

Shirley does something not seen elsewhere, most only focus on vocals but here she interacts with the other cast members there. After all essentially she is talking directly to THEM, not merely preforming a solo alone in the room. I wish she would have at least given a slight nod to the Oklahoma accent at the time, don't forget she is supposed to be just a farm girl. Liz Taylor did this perfectly in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She did not try to copy the accent, just had the right tone of it.
