Arryk wouldn't have been able to get past the guards and ser Lorent in that condition either. Better to keep some honor and go down next to the brother

He can always surrender and ask them to interrogate him to check if he is the real Erryk later. For example, just ask him some questions that only the real Erryk would know, like who he trained or talked to yesterday at Dragonstone and what they talked about. Or they can ask Erryk to show them the way to his own bedroom in Dragonstone. Arryk just arrived today and would not know the answers for these kinds of questions.
Even saying that, nothing says he needs to guard the queen. If he can't kill her, I find it unlikely he'd have stayed to sabotage them so knowing his original goal was unachievable he'd have went back to Cole.
Someone needs to make an edit where each twin has a green or black shield above them so we can follow the fight better, it keeps cutting away and it makes it harder to follow

This. Early GOT had a lot of moments like this where important scenes ahd no music or minimal music just to highlight the dialogue or the scene itself (Ned vs Cersei in the garden, for one). It got to a point by the later seasons where every scene had a music in the background that it kinda detracted from the scene.

He was the only person to pledge himself to her, without any family tie or personal reason. Just did it because he believed she would be a good and just Queen. And brought her Viserys crown, basically all she has left of him.

On top of that Ser Erryk brought the Jaehaerys crown to Rahenyra. He was the most loyal of all, period.

The knee wound is present in both twins, right as Ser Florent appears Arryk gets cut in the leg too, both are injured which is why when Ser Florent asks “Which one is Erryk?” Rhaenyra has no answer because the one distinction between the two was now gone.

I listened to Bronn's story about the Kingsguard plenty of times, the part about the brothers cutting each other down really stuck with me and now I got to see it in live action, really awesome to see.

I keep rewatching this and I think the show runner is wrong. Erryk has the gash on the right knee. Aryyyk pushes his fingers into the gash then ends up killing him after. Make it make sense

The leg wound continuity problems aside, i feel that Erryk won the fight because a. Arryk already knew it was a suicide mission, so it doesn't make much sense to fall on his sword and not try his damndest to have a go at an armorless Ser Lorent and the queen. b. On the other hand, Erryk made a final gesture of loyalty by killing himself because there would always be a doubt of him being Arryk undercover. c. If Erryk won the fight, then it would be Arryk who says 'You parted us' which makes sense as Erryk was the one who left the Kingsguard and his brother to join the Blacks.

although the two are kingsguards and are considered one of the best fighters in the realm, their fight is a bit sloppy, with a lot of grappling. Which in my opinion makes it all the more organic. U gotta remember that while yes both are seasoned and good fighter, they are also brothers, twins no less. So i think while they were fighting each other, they wer also fighting themself, fighting their inner conflict, and emotions, struggling to chose between love and duty to their lieges. For love is the death of duty.
I think the green twin was the one who survived the duel, only to fall upon his own sword. I know it’s never specified, show or books. But if you follow the duel, the black gets cut in the right leg, the green gets one on the left. When the one is strangling the other you see the one being strangled (the same one that kept taking swipes at Raenyra) kills the twin with the cut on the right leg, we see him grab the right leg wound for reprieve and then kills him before the black twin can recover….makes the scene sooo much more impactful when the Green twin turns to her and says…”You’re grace…Forgive me” not only just impactful but would also make sense, though yes you could also take the route the book was implying “nobody knew which one survived, so they’d have been killed as a precaution anyways”. I like my interpretation better, because it shows in full view the horrors of wars and the affects of brother vs brother more specifically

Erryk (Rhaenyra's KG) had a bushier beard, more unkempt than Arrik's (Aegon's), which had a pointier looks. A bit hard to notice as the fight goes on, but the shape of their noses also helps (Arrik's points downwards whereas Errik's doesn't). Errik won the duel. He became a kinslayer and couldn't live with it. And Rheanyra says "Errik".😅
Ignoring what the showrunner said and answering your question: The queen had a protector in front of her, and the rest of her queensguard behind Arryk, who was also very wounded. I believe he felt his mission was not honorable and a failure.

In the end, Ser Arryk and Ser Erryk dealt each other mortal wounds, and died in one another’s arms with tears upon their cheeks."
Yeah, but sword fights don't last an hour. Even if both had been fully armored. The book is written from a maesters' (read nerds') perspective, that has never swung a sword himself. Things being exaggerated or distorted in the retelling is definitely a theme of the book.

I dont have a twin, i do have 4 brothers though a couple of us less than a year apart(Irish twins) but i cant imagine the pain these 2 men felt having to fight like this(ive obviously gotten into fights with my brothers but never a sword fight or fight to the death) my brothers and i are close. And i wouldn't hesitate if i saw one getting jumped by 10 ppl to hop out of my car and start fighting with him. We win together or lose together. This was brutal to watch, for many reasons, and after hed slain his brother and fell on his sword i understood it completely. Just a very tragic event in a show full of tragedy.
Did they ever establish if Mysaria prevented this assassination by warning Erryk? I know they suggested it when she seemed to recognize Arryk arriving but it's not definitively made clear. Did I miss something else?
Erryk is the one who died but won in the end because after his death, arryk killed himself after the guilt of killing his brother. Erryk fulfilled his role protecting his queen thus in the end, he won and his brother lost not fulfilling his objective of killing the queen. Arryk losing his brother cause him great pain thus pretending to be the erryk in front of the queen and deciding to kill himself rather than trying to finish the job in respect to his brother erryk giving his life to protect the queen. Arryk is also injured so he could no longer fight anymore and he doesnt want to serve the queen as a fake erryk which is why he killed himself to make it seem erryk did his duty in protecting her.
It’s so weird how Erryk got slashed in his RIGHT leg and Arryk got slashed in his LEFT leg. But then near the end of the battle, Erryk (who was being choked) gouged the leg wound thats now on the RIGHT. It was confusing.
You think they would have tried to make the kings/queens guard armor different to prevent any confusion, especially since everyone knew of the brothers.
So heartbreaking man. I have a brother who’s 9 years younger than me. He’s my only brother. When he was a baby there wasn’t a happier person on this planet than me. He brought me so much joy. Growing up I wasn’t a good brother. I picked on him, made fun of him and didn’t do anything for him. Projected my insecurities on him because growing up I went to a small Baptist school with the same 20 kids in all of my classes for 7 years. As a minority in the south, I was always made fun of and treated badly. When we grew up, my brother hated me. He was always very close to my mother and since my mother and I always had issues that increased his hate for me. I think he loves me deep down but he’ll never act it or show it. Anyways a couple of years ago he went out, got into a fight and came home with a swollen face and a black eye. I was absolutely heartbroken. I wanted to help him but also avenge him. Real brotherly love never dies.
It's sad how both sides lose exactly the same thing each time they take a blow at each other, they each lose a twin brother, each lose a dragon, each lose a son.

These characters were created even before the Dance was fleshed out. I'd been waiting for this meeting as soon as I hard Fire and Blood was being adapted.
Now this was the Shakespearean fulfillment I was waiting to see from a show like this. The perfect combination of fraternal passion, violence, and tragedy all rolled into one overwhelming scene. The falling on his own sword was the perfect way to seal that deal. The Bard would be smiling.
One of the twins told daemon that they had both been pledged to the King'sguard at 8 and 10yrs old. But the kingsguard are chosen for theyre skills and loyalty. This really confused me. Does anyone else understand?
Imagine if Arryk was the one to win this duel and then went pretending to be his brother, waiting for the next chance to strike down a now better guarded Rhaenyra. Perhaps laying low, working as a spy and or somehow being won over by rhaenyra over time. The continuing to pose as Erryk on the side his brother picked, to honor him and his oath, or out of guilt. This way all these two characters amounted to was the old "who's who?" trope, which wouldn't even have worked this well if either of them had cut their beard or if the one serving Rhaenyra changed to a new Queens Guard armor.

The knee wound is present in both twins, right as Ser Florent appears Arryk gets cut in the leg too, both are injured which is why when Ser Florent asks “Which one is Erryk?” Rhaenyra has no answer because the one distinction between the two was now gone.

I listened to Bronn's story about the Kingsguard plenty of times, the part about the brothers cutting each other down really stuck with me and now I got to see it in live action, really awesome to see.
"Showrunner Ryan Condal also confirmed it was Erryk to Decider's Meghan O'Keefe, who asked point blank for clarification on which Cargyll won the duel. "That is Erryk at the end, who's the last survivor, who falls,” Condal said. "So, you know, Arryk is dead. The infiltrator is dead and then Erryk falls on the sword."

I keep rewatching this and I think the show runner is wrong. Erryk has the gash on the right knee. Aryyyk pushes his fingers into the gash then ends up killing him after. Make it make sense

Except that contradicts the scene itself. EDIT : to clear the visible confusion, i'm not saying Arryk won, i'm saying there is a continuity error in the scene that explains why so many think Arryk won. She's more complex in the books. The show have clearly made her the protagonist and removed many of her flaws. There's clear villains in the books and whilst she isn't one, Rhaenyra isn't a hero. I hope they delve more into her paranoia and how it affects her down the line.

The leg wound continuity problems aside, i feel that Erryk won the fight because a. Arryk already knew it was a suicide mission, so it doesn't make much sense to fall on his sword and not try his damndest to have a go at an armorless Ser Lorent and the queen. b. On the other hand, Erryk made a final gesture of loyalty by killing himself because there would always be a doubt of him being Arryk undercover. c. If Erryk won the fight, then it would be Arryk who says 'You parted us' which makes sense as Erryk was the one who left the Kingsguard and his brother to join the Blacks.

For example, just ask him some questions that only the real Erryk would know, like who he trained or talked to yesterday at Dragonstone and what they talked about. Or they can ask Erryk to show them the way to his own bedroom in Dragonstone. Arryk just arrived today and would not know the answers for these kinds of questions.

although the two are kingsguards and are considered one of the best fighters in the realm, their fight is a bit sloppy, with a lot of grappling. Which in my opinion makes it all the more organic. U gotta remember that while yes both are seasoned and good fighter, they are also brothers, twins no less. So i think while they were fighting each other, they wer also fighting themself, fighting their inner conflict, and emotions, struggling to chose between love and duty to their lieges. For love is the death of duty.
How are they always wearing full suits of plate, yet never helmets.
As the enemy also had Kingsguard so without the helmet gets them recorgnised from afar.
I think the green twin was the one who survived the duel, only to fall upon his own sword. I know it’s never specified, show or books. But if you follow the duel, the black gets cut in the right leg, the green gets one on the left. When the one is strangling the other you see the one being strangled (the same one that kept taking swipes at Raenyra) kills the twin with the cut on the right leg, we see him grab the right leg wound for reprieve and then kills him before the black twin can recover….makes the scene sooo much more impactful when the Green twin turns to her and says…”You’re grace…Forgive me” not only just impactful but would also make sense, though yes you could also take the route the book was implying “nobody knew which one survived, so they’d have been killed as a precaution anyways”. I like my interpretation better, because it shows in full view the horrors of wars and the affects of brother vs brother more specifically

Erryk (Rhaenyra's KG) had a bushier beard, more unkempt than Arrik's (Aegon's), which had a pointier looks. A bit hard to notice as the fight goes on, but the shape of their noses also helps (Arrik's points downwards whereas Errik's doesn't). Errik won the duel. He became a kinslayer and couldn't live with it.

Ignoring what the showrunner said and answering your question: The queen had a protector in front of her, and the rest of her queensguard behind Arryk, who was also very wounded. I believe he felt his mission was not honorable and a failure.

Yeah, but sword fights don't last an hour. Even if both had been fully armored. The book is written from a maesters' (read nerds') perspective, that has never swung a sword himself. Things being exaggerated or distorted in the retelling is definitely a theme of the book.

I dont have a twin, i do have 4 brothers though a couple of us less than a year apart(Irish twins) but i cant imagine the pain these 2 men felt having to fight like this(ive obviously gotten into fights with my brothers but never a sword fight or fight to the death) my brothers and i are close. And i wouldn't hesitate if i saw one getting jumped by 10 ppl to hop out of my car and start fighting with him. We win together or lose together. This was brutal to watch, for many reasons, and after hed slain his brother and fell on his sword i understood it completely. Just a very tragic event in a show full of tragedy.

Did they ever establish if Mysaria prevented this assassination by warning Erryk? I know they suggested it when she seemed to recognize Arryk arriving but it's not definitively made clear. Did I miss something else?
Erryk is the one who died but won in the end because after his death, arryk killed himself after the guilt of killing his brother. Erryk fulfilled his role protecting his queen thus in the end, he won and his brother lost not fulfilling his objective of killing the queen. Arryk losing his brother cause him great pain thus pretending to be the erryk in front of the queen and deciding to kill himself rather than trying to finish the job in respect to his brother erryk giving his life to protect the queen. Arryk is also injured so he could no longer fight anymore and he doesnt want to serve the queen as a fake erryk which is why he killed himself to make it seem erryk did his duty in protecting her.
It’s so weird how Erryk got slashed in his RIGHT leg and Arryk got slashed in his LEFT leg. But then near the end of the battle, Erryk (who was being choked) gouged the leg wound thats now on the RIGHT. It was confusing.
Because it was Arryk being choked, Arryk who slew Erryk and fell on his own sword for repentance.
You think they would have tried to make the kings/queens guard armor different to prevent any confusion, especially since everyone knew of the brothers.

So heartbreaking man. I have a brother who’s 9 years younger than me. He’s my only brother. When he was a baby there wasn’t a happier person on this planet than me. He brought me so much joy.
Growing up I wasn’t a good brother. I picked on him, made fun of him and didn’t do anything for him. Projected my insecurities on him because growing up I went to a small Baptist school with the same 20 kids in all of my classes for 7 years. As a minority in the south, I was always made fun of and treated badly.
When we grew up, my brother hated me. He was always very close to my mother and since my mother and I always had issues that increased his hate for me.
I think he loves me deep down but he’ll never act it or show it.
Anyways a couple of years ago he went out, got into a fight and came home with a swollen face and a black eye. I was absolutely heartbroken. I wanted to help him but also avenge him.

Now this was the Shakespearean fulfillment I was waiting to see from a show like this. The perfect combination of fraternal passion, violence, and tragedy all rolled into one overwhelming scene. The falling on his own sword was the perfect way to seal that deal.

Imagine if Arryk was the one to win this duel and then went pretending to be his brother, waiting for the next chance to strike down a now better guarded Rhaenyra.
Perhaps laying low, working as a spy and or somehow being won over by rhaenyra over time. The continuing to pose as Erryk on the side his brother picked, to honor him and his oath, or out of guilt.
This way all these two characters amounted to was the old "who's who?" trope, which wouldn't even have worked this well if either of them had cut their beard or if the one serving Rhaenyra changed to a new Queens Guard armor.
