This video is a demonstration of Etude 2on page 39 from the book,
The Ultimate Hand Technique Workshop.
In this demonstration the snare Etude is played using only then snare drums over a hi-hat and bass ostinato. Then, a full drum set version is played to illustrate how you can use the ideas in each etude in the book to create solo, improvisation and phrasing ideas.
The Etudes in the book are inspired by rhythms played by Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Steve Gadd, Peter Erskine, Gary Chaffee, Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Alan Dawson, and many other master drummers.
This Etude 2 on page 39 presents a variety of advanced rhythms and advanced hand techniques such as the Moeller stroke 4, Moeller stroke 3, Moeller stroke 2. The Etude also includes finger control technique, singles stroke rolls, double stroke rolls and Gary Chaffee stickings such as 4b, and 8b among other materials.
This performance is full over the beat and over the bar-line figures that are very interesting and will provide new ways of playing that are note always inside of the beat and the measure.
