This video is a demonstration of Etude 5 on page 42 from the book,
The Ultimate Hand Technique Workshop.
In this demonstration the snare Etude 5 is played on the drum set. This is to illustrate how you can use the ideas presented in this etude to create solo, improvisation and phrasing ideas.
The Etudes in the book are inspired by rhythms played by Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Steve Gadd, Peter Erskine, Gary Chaffee, Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Alan Dawson, and many other master drummers.
This etude on page 42, presents a variety of advanced rhythms and hand techniques directly inspired by my favorite drummers. We have singles, doubles, and a variety of diddle combinations.
The challenges are in abondance here. If you have the book and are fooling along, note that I am playing A four times. So, the fork is AAAA - BB - CC - DD.
One big challenge is section C, we have two beats of finger control, two beats of doubles, and two beats of singles, then 4 paradiddles, and we flip the exact phrase but now leading left-handed.
So, this is a bit hard to do well. Landing on the left lead smoothly will takes practice. As I practice this today, and saw the video, there are a few times here where things are not as precise as I wanted, but I will keep practicing and getting better. This Etude, and all the other etudes in the book, a great coordination development course.
This performance is full over the beat and over the bar-line figures that are very interesting and will provide new ways of playing that are note always inside of the beat and the measure.

I would like to know what series of Sonor drums is this one. I got a Sonor Bop Kit and it looks the same as this one.
