I was just there I was 3 when the film was made and have been gone from Sheffield for over 40 yrs but still go back and call it home, its an awesome sight the Peak District is...
0.42 Monsail Dale viaduct - I dived off it in the early 90’s with a climbing rope tied around my waist and when I finished swinging my friend untied the other end and lowered me to the ground! (...and then we went on to the cafe at Grindleford station for pint mugs of tea!)
Great! Magnificent! Was married in High Peak registry office in 70's. Roads were still like that then. Robert Shaw - great narrator(and actor). Was the bad guy in 'From Russia with Love'. Remember him as William Tell on early 50's ITV
Took me a minute to make the connection. The narrator, Robert Shaw, beloved to me as Quint (Jaws), was a Brit? Who knew?! Gorgeous film, I heartily agree about the stunning colour.
Still as beautiful now, just need to know where to look ;-)
I have the whole film on DVD, an utterly beguiling and lovely film of a long vanished England.

Granite...in the Peak District? Nope..only some basalt known locally as toadstone. But lovely video. Captures the era so well.

I lived near all those places I was 16 when this film was made Thank you lovely memories
I wondered if it was Robert Shaw ... yes, he was a great actor and narrator.
What a fantastic piece of film though ~ loved it.
It was and he narrated North to the Dale's for the BTF unit.
1st national park and 1st for cycling! We
Wonderful. I'll have to start talking like that when I make my videos ;-)
Worth watching for the 1950's Eastmancolor alone.
Relax in a coach that's drifting slowly over to the wrong side of the road :-)
Oliver Postgate! The chap who does the commentary- I think it's him.
if only the roads were like that now :(
Yes, I can still remember the acrid taste of molten iron in my throat. Still here though!
oh for the return of care free days
Poor kids, breathing in all that pollution
