I once had Angular cheilitis due to vitamin B deficiency due to my diet. Nothing helped until my mom, old school nurse, told me about the vitamin B. I started B complex and cheilitis went away!

Hi. just wanted to say that I too suffered with this problem and had my blood work done and my B levels were very low. I have been taking Liquid B Complex, and I don't get this anymore. Also have to use good moisturizing lip balms too. I never leave home without it!

Only thing that helps me is using yeast infection cream before I go to bed. Taking minerals and vitamins didn't help....Also, if I feel it coming on and I use a bit of cream and no problems at all begin.

In the oral medicine clinic in dental school, we would routinely test our patients with this condition for iron or B12 deficiency. Also just improving the occlusal vertical dimension by changing worn out dentures can help without the need for Botox. As denture teeth wear, the lower facial third tends to collapse increasing the depth of the skin folds there.

Thank you for covering this subject. I've mentioned my cheilitis to every doctor I've had for the last 20 years and they always say "stop licking your lips". I ask if they see me licking my lips and they do not. I have Sjogren's. Excess saliva is not my problem. That you took the time to go into more detail and provide more options and contributing factors is something I really appreciate.

I had angular chelitis last year and I rarely ever get it. I had just moved overseas and I think I must have been nutritionally deficient in something. It improved after starting multivitamins and probiotics. Not sure which one worked thou. I was liberally applying mineral oil based lip balms too. Nothing worse than letting it dry and crack even further

I have experienced this for the first time. It started as a I thought just a dry lips, then it became cracked & so painful. I ended up having to try & self diagnose as the doctor just told me to ‘drink more water’. I am breastfeeding & I have to drink lots of water anyway! I finally got the doctor to give me some other cream, but it does keep coming back. So I’m glad to watch this video! Your videos are amazing & so helpful. Thank you for what you do! ❤️

I kept using lipbalms that made my lips worse and then I read that people could be allergic to Beeswax (hey, Burts Bees!). Now I avoid all products with beeswax, which includes lots of lipsticks too, and my lips are never chapped. I love Nivea's lip butters and CeraVe ointment.

I’ve been dealing with this for months 😢 haven’t been to the dermatologist and have tried many different ointments.
    Edit: 11/17/20
I finally decided to see my dermatologist about this and let me tell you, it’s been a week and my lips/mouth are completely healed! What I thought was Cheilitis was Irritant Contact Dermatitis.
    Dermatologist recommended the following:
*It worked for me but might not work for everyone but it’s worth a try.
STOP using mint/cinnamon flavored toothpaste and use a mild berry flavor with NO Fluoride. This change alone helped a lot because my lips would get irritated right after I’d brush my teeth.
Secondly, I was prescribed Mupirocin Topical Ointment 2% and Triamcinolone Topical 0.025% Cream. Also, stop using any lip balms and use Vaseline when needed. I also switched my face cream to CeraVe.
I hope this could help someone.

After doing my own research (I did not want steroids), I tried switching to a sulfate free, fluoride free, flavor free toothpaste and it cleared up in days. Honestly, doctors sometimes just look at the symptoms not the cause.

Dr Dray: Thank you so much for this video. I had this for months and months after a routine dental visit somehow. I went to the Derm 4 or 5 times after trying many of the things suggested from research. I was feeling disfigured, self conscious and frustrated and had tried everything. Finally, she gave me a steroid cream in teeny sample only. It worked like a charm but only after months of visits, co pays and suffering. I haven't quite felt the same about the doctor when she refused to give me another sample or script as I worry about another episode and am frequently out of town for extended periods. I did switch to an SLS free toothpaste and later got filler in that spot and so far so good. I urge doctors to have some faith in your patients of long standing to have these medications on hand to be able to mitigate the implications of this condition. You are one of my favs for the straight scoop. Many thanks.

Oh, my... I've suffered from this condition since my teenage years. I've been controlling it by daily applying moisturizer on the area (the Vaseline brand in particular works best for me.) Now, I never knew why I would be so sensitive on this area until now. Turns out I'm both a drooler when sleeping and also a constant lip licker. 😅

I have had this problem for about 2 months and could not figure it out! I am a skincare lover and have been slathering my face with a propolis serum every night. I've done everything. Stopped using lip products. Only using Vaseline and it has not helped at all. Everyone kept saying it was because I needed to drink more water and I knew it wasn't the reason. I just ordered some ointment and will forgo that propolis serum. Hope this can heal my mouth before my wedding. Thank you so much! ✨💓
