Cultural, RACIAL and ethnic groups? You know, it would help the world a lot if we humans would limit ourselves to cultural and ethnic differences. How someone looks does not define a person in itself, does it. Culture does. Sometimes people's color (not race, please, there is only 1 human race) is the first thing you notice about them, but how one looks does not mean anything in itself, does it! If you adopt a kid from, let's say, China, does it mean that the kid has an inborn Chinese "mentality"? No. It would be a very good idea for all of us not to focus other people's looks.

I never knew what the Hofstede Cultural Framework was before this course, but now that I know what is it, it seems very important when trying to understand culture. I like how informing the public on cultural diversity can also bring everyone together, as we can understand each other better. Seeing the different approaches in Hofstede's findings, I found it very useful when learning about what culture diversity is.

During my college career, this still remains one of the most interesting videos I have watched. I consider Hofstede's Cultural Framework to be vital knowledge in understanding culture and I wish I would have understood it much sooner. In knowing this framework, I have a basis in understanding other cultures and how they compare to my own.

American business culture is different than other business cultures around the world. It is imperative in the United States to understand the cultural background of different people from varying backgrounds to better manage and run a business. Analyzing the six different topics can provide great insight into business decision making.

It is fascinating to me how all the elements within a culture can vary so greatly just based on where you live, individualism, power distance, indulgence, etc. I think it is very informative knowing how cultures operate, in case you are ever in a business situation when its vital to have an understanding of it.

Hofstede's Culture Framework in correlation with culture in different societies. The importance of knowing culture norms, and social norms in different countries can make or break your experience overseas. I love the debate between individualism and collectivism- I side with a collective society, even having grown up in the US.

Hofstede's cultural framework is important to understand as diversity continues to increase as time goes on. It provides a deeper understanding of many cultures and can be looked up at any time for reference. Understanding each category can provide a lot of information for a specific culture and can be useful when trying to show respect.

Hofstede's cultural framework is fascinating because it classifies individuals based on their fundamental traits, experiences, and knowledge into various dimensions. This enables companies to gain a better understanding of how their product, market, and ultimately their success will be able to scale in other nations or even in different regions within our own.

This framework doesn't include people with disabilities. Disability doesn't discriminate. Anyone from any of these "groups" could live with a disability. Moreover, the video isn't professionally captioned. The delivery of this framework philosophy omits individuals who rely on the printed representation of English. UA-cam auto-generated captions place a barrier because they do not include punctuation, capitalization, or spell-check capabilities.

I believe this is a good video on Hofstede's theory about how cultures work. Even though he was only looking at one company, I believe he did a great job nailing down some key aspects about different cultures. He hit the nail on the head with individualism and collectivism, and how the U.S. and Europe are more individual, while Middle East countries are more group-oriented and collective as a society. This video is good to explain why some countries do the things they do; great video!

This video is so good and has very good information. The subject talking is this video reminds me of what college is like. In college, there are so many cultures but somehow we go to the same class and help each other out no matter where we came from. Even though sometimes our culture gets in the way its always good to learn about the different cultures and know the way they think and also do things and just be more informed about the different cultures.

The video discusses Hofstede's cultural framework and its six dimensions, including power distance, individualism vs collectivism, and uncertainty avoidance index. It highlights the importance of cultural diversity in workplaces and the limitations of the model.
[00:00] Understanding cultural diversity is crucial in today's workplaces and schools
    - Cultural diversity contributes to collaboration, dispels negative stereotypes, and makes the world more interesting
    - Hofstede's cultural framework is a useful approach to understanding cultures
    - The framework consists of six dimensions, including power distance index, which varies across cultures
[02:37] The four cultural dimensions are individualism vs collectivism, uncertainty avoidance index, masculinity vs femininity, and power distance
    - Individualistic cultures prioritize self-realization and competition, while collectivist cultures prioritize group goals and loyalty
    - High uncertainty avoidance cultures prefer stability and clear instructions, while low uncertainty avoidance cultures are more willing to take risks and value thinking outside the box
    - Masculine cultures prioritize achievement and toughness, while feminine cultures prioritize nurturing and tenderness
    - Power distance refers to the degree of acceptance of unequal distribution of power in a society, with high power distance cultures accepting and even expecting hierarchy and low power distance cultures valuing equality and challenging authority
[05:17] Attitudes towards gender and time orientation vary across cultures
    - Masculine-oriented cultures have defined gender roles and prioritize performance and material success (e.g. Japan, Latin America)
    - Feminine-oriented cultures prioritize quality of life and relationships, with both genders swapping roles (e.g. Scandinavia, Switzerland, New Zealand)
    - Long-term orientation emphasizes perseverance and growth, while short-term orientation focuses on immediate success (e.g. traditional Eastern cultures)
    - Indulgent societies value gratification of human needs and desires, while restrained societies suppress gratification and regulate it through social norms (added in 2010)
[07:57] Understanding cultural diversity is crucial for successful communication and relationship management
    - Hofstede's cultural framework is a valuable tool for understanding cultural differences
    - Limitations of Hofstede's framework include assuming a one-to-one correspondence between culture and nation-state, cultural bias in research, and exclusion of certain social classes
    - Different countries have varying levels of indulgence, which can impact societal norms and individual behavior

This is one of my favorite videos from this course. I enjoy learning about different cultures and I am glad that I attend a school that welcomes diversity. I like how Hofstede's Cultural Framework is explained in this video. I felt like the examples given in each dimension were accurate. Coming from a Hispanic background I can confirm that Latin America is a masculine-oriented culture.

Personally, I had never heard of Hofstede's cultural framework until taking this course. And, it seems like a 'good enough' way of categorizing cultures, but I don't know how sold I am on the idea itself. If they replicated this research experiment to include more companies and participants than what Mr. Hofstede did, I would be inclined to believe it. However, in skeptically saying that, I do think that the fifth point of long-term vs. short-term orientation is most prevalent in my own observations in the workplace. If different employees, especially a manager and their employee, that can put a HEAVY strain of their effectiveness as a team. Of all of the six points, I think the planning perspective one is the most important (Long vs Short term).

Hofstede's cultural framework is undoubtly useful in business. I still think more could be added to it though. For example, Hofstede limited himself by using only employees if IBM. It would be interesting to see if his predictions are also valid in other industries.

The Long-Term Orientation vs. Short-Term Orientation dimension is interesting to analyze. An example from the video was that one with a long-term orientation would be willing to take blame for a faulty product. In these countries, there is probably more correction and adjustment because the people believe in a future goal. They improve what they have to suit future needs. On the other hand, countries that have a short-term orientation are more likely to terminate efforts if something goes wrong. There is more waste in these countries because they will scrap an idea if it is not fulfilling the requirement.

I think any attempt to systematize cultural differences will be subject to some limitations, but I don't think that decreases the importance of trying to develop such models. The bias in Hofstede's research seems likely to affect his conclusions, but I still think the model is useful as long as you acknowledge its limitations when using it

I believe the Hofstede Cultural Framework is useful for understanding how culture influences how businesses operate. However, it is important to keep in mind that it generalizes people based on cultural trends, and does not consider individual differences. For example, most Americans are indulgent and short-term oriented. I am an exception to this trend because I practice restraint and I am long-term oriented.

Even though Hofstede culture framework has some limitation, but I agree with his six different dimensions to see the culture differences. I particularly see the differences between two “Long-Term vs Short-Term Orientation” cultures. Majority people in Asia try to save money for their kids for education, wedding and even property to pass out to their next generations; so, their next generations don’t have to work hard as they did. On other side, western culture prefers short term success and more focused near future rather than far.

I think Hofstede's cultural framework is a great model to compare why nations think so differently from one another. I found the individualism vs collectivism especially interesting. Although I am from Hispanic decent, I was born in the United States and as the video mentions I follow the individualism idea. Being independent and taking care of one's family is the most important thing for me, and although I have noticed people from Mexico do find themselves relying on a group for survival more than themselves, it is a principle I would never see myself following. Overall, it is compelling how the United States and Mexico can be neighboring countries, yet they are very different from each other.

The dimension from the Hofstede video I find most interesting is that of Short vs Long term orientation. The remark that "Short Term cultures value tradition only as much as it fulills social obligations" really hit home. I believe that trait, which the Hofstede model associates with western cultures, is a double edged sword. Few barriers to innovations that give an advantage, but a lack of caution to changes that might haev serious costs over the course of several generations.

This video interests me because I think someone new to international business would not always think of this aspect to it. When thinking of business, most people probably don't consider their culture a factor to how their business operates because that is just how businesses in their culture operate. However when the cultures are different and you are doing international business then it plays a huge factor in how successful a business may or may not be. Hofstede's Framework also, as the video mentions, is useful outside of business practices in understanding other cultures and getting rid of stereotypes/negative perceptions.

Hofstede's cultural framework has six dimensions and are practiced all around the world. The dimension that fascinated was Individualism vs. Collectivism. In an individualistic society the norm is to take care of yourself and your immediate group of people. On the flipside in a collectivist culture its about the group not just you. The goal is to complete a task that will propel the group in the direction that they are seeking to go.

I enjoyed how this video took Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory and showed how countries created their values. The idea is very simple to understand that countries cultural values are created by the interactions within the country. Many countries are just now receiving foreign investment long enough for us to see how foreign impacts can actually alter a countries value as well. I believe that there is more that can be said about countries and their values beyond just the Hofstede theory, but the theory works well in showcasing it simply.

I had already learned about Hofstede's Cultural Framework in another class. I find it very interesting about how spot on it is on most countries cultures. It is more impressive that this research was originally just based on Americans and European people and one industry and company that was IBM. I was born in Mexico but have grown up in the United States and It's interesting how I identify with Mexico on some stuff and with United States on some others.

I found this video interesting because it does a good job at breaking down the differences that should be highlighted when comparing another culture to ones own. Having the the country recieve these numerical scores to compare to another culture do show the some of the differences in the values of cultures, which is important when visiting a foreign culture and to be respectful. This was an especially interesting video to watch since I hope to work in other countries in the future, by having this outlook and possibly applying the framework to compare a new country to my own counrties' scores, I can see how much adapting I will need to do and what changes to highlight so that I can be successful in my travels.

the part of the video that I found interesting was the Indulgence vs. restraint restraint dimension of hofstedes cultural model because it explains how factors like social norms and freedom of speech play a part in how westernized countries choose to spend money compared to eastern european and asian countries. very informative video.

Hofstede'c Culture Framework is a really beneficial tool in helping our understanding of other cultures. While most of the scorings did not shock me, seeing a number in each category was beneficial for my understanding. I was so glad to learn about this framework and concept and I think was very well explained and summarized here!

Learning about other people’s culture is important because we come from different backgrounds, and this can bring innovative and beneficial ideas to the table. Hofstede’s cultural framework is an approach that helps us understand different cultures. This video gives great examples about the 6 different elements and how they can differ amongst countries. Although Hofstede’s framework may have limitations, I believe the research findings are pretty accurate. I certainly agree with the statement that people in the United States take on the individualism approach.

It's so important to understand cultures and how they differ from each other. Hofstede's Cultural Framework does an excellent job of simplifying a complex concept. I was somewhat aware of this framework from a previous class, but now I have a better grasp on it. Overall, this is beneficial for everyone to learn.

Hofstedes cultural framework really provided a more simple breakdown of how other countries differ and what their ideas entail. It is a limited view, given it's from a single company, but it just goes to show that even working together, the idea of different perspectives could work and should be embraced. The idea that interests me was uncertainty avoidance because some countries are clear and safe while others promote new things.
