Thank you so much. One of the first high quality treatments of culture on UA-cam. Too many amateurs expressing personal opinions. Thank you!

    1. Individualism v Collectivism
    - some societies value the performance of individuals
    - some value team performance
    - implications for financial rewards (indiv bonuses v profit sharing)
    2. Power distance
    - extent to which inequality is tolerated and whether there is a strong sense of position and status
    - high PD = accepts bureaucracy and respect for authority and rank
    - low PD =suggests a flat org structure and emphasis on personal responsibility/autonomy
    3. Masculinity v Femininity
    - Decision making style
    - Masculine = hard edged, fact based, aggressive style
    - Feminine = consultation and individual analysis
    4. Uncertainty Avoidance
    - Attitude to risk taking
    - Level of anxiety
    - Low levels: willingness to accept risk, rule breaking, chanfe
    - High levels: more support for rules, data, etc.
    5. Long Term Orientation
    - Some countries emphasize short termism
    - Other counries take a much longer term perspective
    - Key implication is the impact on investment decisions and risk taking
    6. Indulgence v Restraint
    - Indulgence stands for a society that allows free gratification of basic human drives
    - Restraint stands for a society that supresses needs and regulates by social norms

Thank you for saving me from reading a paper about it which could potentially take 2,5-3 hours (I am a slow reader).

A new dimension that I want to add is childlikeness vs maturity (childlike or mature). Childlike cultures value more the innocence of children, and mature cultures value more the experience of adults. Childlike cultures put more emphasis on children rights and mature cultures put more emphasis on respecting adults. Childlike cultures view children and adults as equals and mature cultures view adults as authorities.

At 7:25, does a higher Uncertainty Avoidance mean they are high risk takers or low risk takers?

It has to do with cultures and what they value and nothing to do with gender. Masculine cultures would value ambition power and financial stability a masculine culture would be the USA and feminine cultures value things like taking care of people supporting others countries such Netherlands’s or Finland would be considered feminine culture
