    "It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory”, which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.
    Scythe is an engine-building game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor. In Scythe, each player represents a character from one of five factions of Eastern Europe who are attempting to earn their fortune and claim their faction's stake in the land around the mysterious Factory. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.
    Each player begins the game with different resources (power, coins, combat acumen, and popularity), a different starting location, and a hidden goal. Starting positions are specially calibrated to contribute to each faction’s uniqueness and the asymmetrical nature of the game (each faction always starts in the same place).
    Scythe gives players almost complete control over their fate. Other than each player’s individual hidden objective card, the only elements of luck or variability are “encounter” cards that players will draw as they interact with the citizens of newly explored lands. Each encounter card provides the player with several options, allowing them to mitigate the luck of the draw through their selection. Combat is also driven by choices, not luck or randomness.
    Scythe uses a streamlined action-selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay moving at a brisk pace and reduce downtime between turns. While there is plenty of direct conflict for players who seek it, there is no player elimination.
    Every part of Scythe has an aspect of engine-building to it. Players can upgrade actions to become more efficient, build structures that improve their position on the map, enlist new recruits to enhance character abilities, activate mechs to deter opponents from invading, and expand their borders to reap greater types and quantities of resources. These engine-building aspects create a sense of momentum and progress throughout the game. The order in which players improve their engine adds to the unique feel of each game, even when playing one faction multiple times."

    Hello Everyone!
    Hope you enjoy the start of the playthrough. Wanted to mention a mistake that I made involving moving workers. I didn't move workers from my home base to where my 'character' was a couple times when I should have. Around 18:30 is a good example of me missing an opportunity to move the automa worker from their home base to where their character was. Thankfully this didn't impact gameplay as the automa couldn’t cross rivers yet. I made the correction in video at the very end. Cheers! :)

    Hi Adam, nice playthrough, this is one of my top games, and is awesome see you play against two automas.
    I think your next moves as a strategy could be a trade for two oils to upgrade and decrease the cost of deploy a mech to 2 ore, later move 2 worker to the mountains, in two more turns deploy the mech for seaworthy and a few more turns later enlist for a coin bonus and a mech for +1 move to try to reach the factory though the lake before the automas.
    Easy peasy, hehe. The objective i think needs to be surround the nearest lake.

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  6 років тому +1

      Hey Gustavo! Now this is the type of feedback I love. Great thoughts on what to do next, I will certainly keep them in mind. The objective needs to be surrounding the same lake which is doable. Cheers!

    Great you discovered your slip with the workers. Another quick note (example: the very last Character movement). The white Automa would have chosen the Character, picked it up and then placed it back on the same space. While this doesn‘t change the board state at all, it does count as a movement. Can become important later, when there‘s another action shown after a slash. The Autome would have performed the move action and thus does not proceed to the next one.
    Looking forward to the next part!

    At 13:10, the end result of Automa's movement was correct (no worker changed position), but the explanation is not. The chosen worker must move into the hex that's in the neighborhood of the most allied units. Even if the Automa had unlocked river crossing, this hex would be the one it’s already in because it’s adjacent to the character *and* the other worker. The automa rules say that moving a unit into the land it already occupies should be considered as a valid move, so the worker stays there and the movement is complete.

      Rolling Solo no it didn’t, but I’ve only played a single game against the automa and I think I might have made the same mistake you mention in the pinned comment. That's why I came here in the first place, to check my rule understanding with someone else, and your video sure helped. :)

    Hey been enjoying this series a ton! As someone that only has retail base Scythe, is there a recommended order to getting the expansions/promo content? Should I prioritize certain sets or items? Thanks!

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  5 років тому +1

      Brian! Happy to hear it. :)
      I went after the small promo packs as I could find them. No particular order there. I do think following the release order for the expansions is a good idea. But the great thing with Scythe is the expansion content is all plug and play. So you add in what you want to mold the game as you choose. I like that release order mentality but as there are three out already you could go after whichever one is the most interesting to you. Thanks for watching! I also have an unboxing for Rise of Fenris releasing in the next day or so. I keep it high level to avoid spoilers as there are legacy aspects and campaign play. Cheers!

      @@RollingSolo same thing in 16:00...move workers is valid. Will be move in the hex of character

  • @stacie_everdell
    @stacie_everdell 2 роки тому +1

    Thanks for this play through. I found the hardest part of running the AI was identifying which is the valid unit and which is the valid territory. You explain identifying the valid worker well for the first worker movement by the Automa 13:25, but it is still not clear on how you identify a valid territory. In the rules book, this is explained as the 6 hexes surrounding an automa unit, that does not have an enemy unit. But can it have another automa unit?
    Also helpful is to stick to the game terms of unit, worker, mech, character. ;)

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Stacie! In my earlier days I was a bit wild west with terms. I've gotten better over the years at this haha

  • @Randi-Rabbit

    New to Scythe, found my way here as I only play solo, a couple of questions if I may? 1. How many Automa can/should you play? 2. What size Table are you on? I'm currently thinking of getting a 2.9ft x 2.9ft gaming table, would that be big enough or should I got 4ft x 4ft?

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  4 місяці тому +1

      I think going against one is best when learning the flow. 2-3 is likely the sweet spot with 2 being best for playtime. I use a 3x4 and no game has ever had issue with it. 3x3 is too small. 3x4, 3x5 or 4x4 are best choices depending on if you prefer square or a rectangle.

    "do this and then this worker moves here, and then this would happen over here normally but now it happens here, so there is nothing that happens to this worker instead"
    I appreciate the work on this, but I would offer the constructive criticism that you slow down (as much as is feasible) and give things on the board specific names and not use so many pronouns. Your narration became white noise after a while

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  5 років тому

      It's also difficult because 'bonus' is a generic word which relates to much of what is happening in encounters for example. The final rulebook will have all the terminology nailed down. :)
