    Encounter Tokens and Large Action Markers come from MeepleSource!
    "It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory”, which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.
    Scythe is an engine-building game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor. In Scythe, each player represents a character from one of five factions of Eastern Europe who are attempting to earn their fortune and claim their faction's stake in the land around the mysterious Factory. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.
    Each player begins the game with different resources (power, coins, combat acumen, and popularity), a different starting location, and a hidden goal. Starting positions are specially calibrated to contribute to each faction’s uniqueness and the asymmetrical nature of the game (each faction always starts in the same place).
    Scythe gives players almost complete control over their fate. Other than each player’s individual hidden objective card, the only elements of luck or variability are “encounter” cards that players will draw as they interact with the citizens of newly explored lands. Each encounter card provides the player with several options, allowing them to mitigate the luck of the draw through their selection. Combat is also driven by choices, not luck or randomness.
    Scythe uses a streamlined action-selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay moving at a brisk pace and reduce downtime between turns. While there is plenty of direct conflict for players who seek it, there is no player elimination.
    Every part of Scythe has an aspect of engine-building to it. Players can upgrade actions to become more efficient, build structures that improve their position on the map, enlist new recruits to enhance character abilities, activate mechs to deter opponents from invading, and expand their borders to reap greater types and quantities of resources. These engine-building aspects create a sense of momentum and progress throughout the game. The order in which players improve their engine adds to the unique feel of each game, even when playing one faction multiple times."

    @50:00 you can not leave your worker on the lake. On page 16 under Seaworthy :"If a Mech transports workers onto a lake or if a character of mech transports resources onto a lake, you may not leave those workers or resources on the lake after moving off of it, nor may a worker move off of the lake without the assistance of the mech."

    One more minor thing. Playing 2 automas was interesting to watch but obviously this wasn't their original intention. Because of the read order thing, an actual player in the north seems massively disadvantaged as he will be disproportionately targeted by both automas. Anyway, good refresher for Automas which was why I was watching. Getting ready to play Fenris and I wanted to play a game or two first and needed to remember how to play. Thanks again.

    Great set of videos! Your gameplay always helps me especially when I need a refresher course or two. One note: when the yellow faction beat you they were at space 14 on their power track and used 7 power. That would have put them on 7 remaining, not 8, which would have nullified their combat against the white faction around minute 29. I know the video is over a year old but thought I would point that out. Again, thanks for uploading these awesome videos, much appreciated!

    I know this video was a year ago but I was just watching now. And for the end game scoring you multiplied each controlled territory by 4 points and I believe it they should have been multiplied by 3 which would mean you actually beat the white play by one instead of losing by one. But maybe there is some other modifier i missed. Still a great video series makes me want to track down a couple more Automa decks!!

    Whenever a Automa loses a worker it goes back to its home, not the player mat. Pg 10 of the Automa rule book: "Everything else, including reducing power, returning workers to the home base, and letting the loser gain a combat card is done as in the normal combat procedure."

  • @charlesdarlage8657
    @charlesdarlage8657 6 років тому +1

    Sorry, 1 more. When the defending white Automa defeated the Yellow Automa in combat, it should have received a combat star. It does not matter which one initiated combat only who won. Pg. 23 of the rule book under the Winner section: "The winner also places 1 star token in the combat space of the Triumph Track..." It never specifies only the attacker gets the star. Jamey Stegmaier confirms this on BGG. Really enjoyed the videos, thanks.

    The Reading Order seems like it should have a variation. Like four double-sided cards to denote which of the 8 potential directions you could read from? This would stop the Canadians being disadvantaged, not sure would it mess with automa mechanics though? Gonna try it and see.

      @@RollingSolo Hi guys - have been playing board games for a number of years now bbut new to this game. So enjoying these videos which are so clear and instructive. Also reading the comments is an education in itself!
      With regards to this point I think any solo game that uses the 'reading order' rule is fine as long as the factions are picked randomly. This ensures an infinite number of interactions to deal with depending on your position on the board.

    You where far ahead on white, was it not for the central hex white controlled at the end. That made the difference for white pushing you to bronze. For what it is worth, that demonstrates how important the central hex it (and why it might be worth to battle over it).

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  6 років тому

      100% That central location is key to gaining a lot of ground. Plus I wish I had been there first. I missed out on one potential factory card I never got to see!

    • @asyncritus
      @asyncritus 3 роки тому

      Actually, due to a mistake in the scoring you actually came in second. You gave everyone 4 points per hex controlled instead of 3, meaning that white had 10 fewer points and you had 8 fewer points. End result - you beat white by one point.

  • @krg1605
    @krg1605 3 роки тому +1

    Hi - just playing this game and finding these videos SO instructive so thanks! I must admit that there have been several instances, particularly in the final video where my interpretation of where the Automa pieces go have slightly differed to yours but that's no problem as we all make mistakes and it makes no difference really.
    But may I ask you one question about one particular move as I was unsure if I was right or not so need clarification.
    When you moved the white mech around 12:00 you said it can only go back on the same hex due to the constraints of the rules. But can't it also go on the the hex just above it where the white worker is? The only stipulation is that it can't go on a hex that contains one of its own COMBAT units. So isn't the one with the worker on within its own neighbourhood and also closest to the factory?
    I appreciate this is 2 years ago, but if you (or any other commenter) could clarify this, this would help me greatly.....
