  • In this video I will be building a cabinet for our recent shop addition, the SHAPEOKO CNC!! Excited to get this puppy to work but first we have to make sure that it has a happy home.
    A special shout out to @myerswoodshop and @winstonmoy for the amount of knowledge that helped me along the way with this project!

    I've watched so many builds lately and I liked this one for that real moment of "I fucked up" around 11 min mark. Things like that really help me as a novice to understand I'm an ok builder and as I go along and learn there will be PLENTY of mistakes and "not to get bogged down by them". Great build and motivation!

    Why people spend so much on a enclosure to reduce the sound of a small cnc when 80% or of the noise comes from the trim router?? All this noise can be eliminated while at the same time the horse power can be doubled, the torque can be quadrupled, the runout reduced dramatically, the size of the available bits increased from two sizes to more than seven and the service life extended almost indefinitely by adding a water cooled spindle. They cost less than $300 and just the material for a basic enclosure can cost way more not including the $100 for the trim router.
    Do yourself a favor and ask around the Shapeoko group on Facebook. The testimonials will help you understand why this might be a better solution for your needs.
    Here is a video comparison of the noise level between a water cooled spindle and a router.
    ua-cam.com/video/hALI4XpfmQ8/v-deo.html

    • @InTheGrainCreations
      @InTheGrainCreations  3 роки тому +2

      I gotta say the noise levels aren't even that bad in general. What has been very nice about the cabinet is the dust control. We all know that you can't always have your dust boot on every project or every bit ( like my surfacing bit) so its nice to have it all trapped in one place. I understand that argument you make, why spend so much money on a cabinet when you could just spend money on a better router that will open you up to more options in the long run. My biggest reason though was the challenge of the design and build. I haven't built too many cabinets, let alone designed them around something that already exists and have needs of its own. Could have spent less but now I know I can, plus it's nice to see in the corner of my shop every time I walk in!

The other item if u want to make it quieter buy a brushless or water-cooled spindle. the next item is the secondary waste board i had the same issue but they have bits that are longer so you wouldn't need that. also the swearing in the video there is a way to tag that its not recommended for children. Well I can tell you my reasoning.. if your open to others ideas/reasoning.
      For someone who has been woodworking for years its easy to watch through a video like this with nothing but sounds of tools going the entire time. However one of the biggest reasons I'm making these videos is to inspire people to do things they haven't done before. That's why I'm not overly informative, yet I still show enough of the process for a skilled craftsman to derive some value as well. So I place music throughout the video to at least make it a bit fun for a novice. I am still learning video editing and do agree with bringing down the music levels to something a bit less overwhelming.
