- With their new KISS Sidewinder rebreathers, Jonathan and Todd join up with @DIVETALK hosts Gus and Woody to tackle the Grand Traverse at Peacock Springs in Wes Skiles State Park, Florida. The Grand Traverse is a 4,800 foot dive in a cave from Peacock 1 all the way to Orange Grove, passing Olsen Sink and Challenge Sink along the way. It's a traverse adventure!

Your videos helped me get through Opiate withdrawal. 4 days of hell and sleepless nights but the only thing keeping me going was the Playlist of all of your videos. Thank you so much. Your videos have a nostalgic feeling like when you were watching animal planet back in 2006 to 010. Though I could've sworn you had a segment on TV around that time but it was small from what I remember. Maybe I remember another universe but I know I'm not bugging out.

How long did it eventually take you to make the whole traverse ? 3-4 hours ?
It took us over 3 hours, but we were going really slow to do the filming. I have a friend who said she did it BOTH WAYS (double Grand traverse) without surfacing in the sinks in between in about 4 hours.
Met Bruce a few weeks ago. His shop is truly one of a kind.
My two favorite dive shows together... amazing!! You must come to mayan cenotes in Yucatán, México, and made one more special show together!!

I've done this dive, it was awesome. Carried 2 Genesis 100's and 1 aluminum 80. Had a ton of air afterwards, even after deco. A rebreather is a little overkill for this, but Olsen & Challenge make for good bailout spots if needed.
I love Peacock, the water is fresh and clear normally.

Yeah right.... standing right next to Woody's all pink set up! This was one fun dive (non-diver here), beautiful formations & fish @ 17:36, & exemplifies how it should be done.... responsibly.

I like how you informed everyone that on all traverses you need to set up your exit strategy. So your first dive is at the exit point. Very important.
I lost a friend who made that very mistake. Was doing a traverse at night in the Tallahassee area. Had dove the cave many times so did not run a line at the exit first. Near the exit his less experienced buddy became confused and turned back. He tried to follow his buddy but had to give up and turn around. He ran out of air a few hundred feet from the exit, while his buddy ran out of air close to the original entrance. RIP, Dr. William Mayne. After that a few very experienced well know cave divers died, and I gave up the sport. I figured if it could happen to someone as experienced as me, and some way more experienced, it certainly could happen to me.
@@magaisacult2023 Sorry to hear about your loss. That really stinks. It's easy to get complacent, I feel I've been guilty of taking short cuts, and hearing more and more about simple things that could have avoided a catastrophe from happening, makes you realize how these simple procedures have to be applied regardless of how simple they might seem and what level diver you think you are. I think of that book "close calls" which high lights how many times expert divers have had some type of incident. Hopefully you didn't altogether give up diving though, I love ocean diving just as much as the caves too. Again sorry for your loss.
