  • Shoulder Clinical Examination - Medical School Clinical Skills - Dr Gill
Personally, I find the shoulder examination the most complex examination possibly as there are so many variations and special tests. Some of which overlap and some will relate specifically to a patients presentation.
Often in a medical school syllabus, only select special tests will be used. In this shoulder exam demonstration, we include the Hawkins-Kennedy Test looking for impingement. This is dovetailed with examination for bicipital tendonitis as this is another possible cause of impingement type symptoms.
This shoulder upper limb exam follows the standard "Look, Feel, Move" orthopaedic exam approach, and overall order as set out in MacLeods Clinical Examination
Watch further orthopaedic examinations for your OSCE revision:
    The Spine Examination:
    • Spine Examination - Ba...
    Knee Examination
    • Knee Examination - Ho...
    Hip Joint Clinical Examination
    • Hip Joint Clinical Exa...
    ________
Please note that there is no ABSOLUTE way to perform a clinical examination. Different institutions and even clinicians will have differing degrees of variations - the aim is the effectively identify medically relevant signs.
However during OSCE assessments. Different medical schools, nursing colleges, and other health professional courses will have their own preferred approach to a clinical assessment - you should concentrate on THEIR marks schemes for your assessments.
The examination demonstrated here is derived from Macleods Clinical Examination - a recognized standard textbook for clinical skills.

The only bad thing about this video is that it's only 6minutes long :( Dr. Gill is a genius! It's really cold here and my body was very tense, but after this video I finally managed to relax my body.. but now I want to go back to bed and sleep lol

Great video as always! Just a suggestion; perhaps in one of your videos you could get one of your assistants to ask a question at the end of the examination? It may make the scenario look a bit more realistic. Just a thought 🙂.

if there could be a league of ' dr. Gill type doctors ' that people could find , maybe I wouldn't hate going to the doctor ! are there others like you ( especially in New York ) ? and if so , how do I find one ?

After all these videos, I think I’d like to see one where you show concern when they can’t perform a function on one of the tests and how you’d proceed with the rest of the exam.

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 роки тому +2

The examination would remain the same. You are doing a complete work up. There are a few special tests, such as checking for ascites in the abdo patient that you only really do if you suspect it

If the pain relief sufficient currently?

    • @terribletcm

@@DrJamesGill Thank you! Turned out to be comminuted. Pain was a solid 9/10 on entry, and is now a manageable 4-5 with painkillers, though can spasm to a 9 every once in a while. Surgery tomorrow afternoon. Hope the doc knows how to make easy work of it!

That’s good. Bone pain is nasty. Shattered my elbow a few years ago.
You’ll need to focus to diet when you get out, a lot of calories and minerals to help to repair
