In this week’s Made to Drive episode we recall less wintry weather in the heartland of the country as we join Cy Schmidt for a late afternoon cruise along the backroads of Ohio in his 1969 Mercury Cyclone CJ. The last two letters designate the V8 under hood as a special one, and at this moment we can’t think of many verbal twosomes possessing as many promises of giddy smoking-tire fun as the words “Cobra Jet”-and the base car, the Cyclone, was named after a fence-ripping, cow-tossing fit of natural aggression to begin with.

I agree, this channel is more about purism. These cars are more unique than the latest Ferrari or Lamborghini and the owners simply share their passion instead of showing off. It just doesn't feel like they are talking about a car, but more about a work of art.

I'm more of a British/European sports car guy and never had much interest in American muscle cars. However I can appreciate any good car story. This car may not be my thing but I love it when an owner loves his car like this guy loves his Cyclone. A great car story is a great car story, no matter the make/model. And Petrolicious is best when conveying the relationship between a car and an owner who clearly loves it. It's getting boring to say every week, but another fantastic video by Petrolicious!

I think half a car is its story. A car can look great, be great, feel great, work great, but devoid of ... context, story, life, it's just a hunk of metal, plastic, and rubber. Whether your story, or someone else's, the car becomes much more with it.

Wow...the horsepower available is crazy. Yeas so is the price. Can't afford a muscle car today like you did yesterday. It's a house mortgage payment for a car nowadays. Weird how the owner brought up people on their phones, not paying attention, cuz he's right on the money about it. Two days ago, I was sittin at a red light in my 1988 Ford F-250 4x4 that my Dad bought me when I turned 16 in 1989. It had the 7.5L 460ci with a 5spd and Dana 70 posi rearend, never put a dent on it, just scratches from brush when I used it to tow my 74 Bronco in and out of huntin camp. Some POS illegal immigrant was lookin down at his phone, and rearended me while doin approx 40-45mph...bent the frame, insurance totaled it, and if he hadn't have been knocked out and bleedin in his car that day, I would've beat him into a coma with the 4ft tire iron I kept behind the seat, cuz that truck was worth more than he's worth, he had no license no insurance and he didn't even speak English, according to the cop at the scene...That truck never stopped runnin, never needed to be worked on, and it had 198,000+ when that bastard hit me...it never let me down., in 30 years, not once...

I love Cobra Jets on anything. That engine note is unlike anything a modern V8 can emit.

My first car was a 1969 Mercury Cyclone I found abandoned in the back of a used car lot.

Put disc brakes on the front at the very least & keep the old parts. Drive the dam car and stop being afraid!
