Makes it a lot easier to work on if you remove the front wheels and let the truck down a good foot , that’s what I did when I did the head gaskets on my 94 lightning
Doing my 1989 Bronco XLT with the 351W and this was really helpful. My injectors were all cracked and looked factory so I upgraded to the EV6 fuel injectors (4 pinholes). Thanks for the heads up about the potential for lighting my wire on fire!
How'd it go? I'm getting ready to pull the heads tomorrow on my 86 which already has the carb manifold but getting rid of all the emissions junk and swapping to a Holley. Hoping the heads reveal the reason for a pan full of coolant instead of a cracked block. haha
Yeah, if I was keeping this truck and had to work on it again, I would probably pull then engine myself. As it is, I am going to sell this truck since I got my Excursion.

I bypassed that smog pump on my 95 f150 302 it has 329,000 original drive train. Might have been easier to just pull the motor as far as you are going into it

Are you having trouble with the egr delete at all? I deleted mine and cannot get rid of my CEL. I'm also having an issue where the truck fires right up instantly on a cold start and then when hot I have to pump the gas pedal to get it to start.
I am getting a error code that comes and goes but I am not worried about that since this is a shop truck. Not having an issues with starting though. Not sure what would cause that.
I have a 96 f150 ex cab 4x4 that came with a 5.8l on f250 suspension from the factory.I have over 230k on the motor and it still runs good. I know eventually i will need to rebuild,so good video and thanks. How did you work around taking off the smog control? just cover the holes?My fear is it will mess with air gas mixing and run bad.

i just inhereted my dads 96 f250 5.8 4x4 about to do the same thing. did removing that emission crap that goes to exhaust manifolds cause the engine light to come on? i want to take em out, but we have deq here.. thx. and awesome video
I left the EGR in place but blocked the port behind it going to the throttle body. I dont think it has caused a problem because the engine light does not come on all the time. Mine does something but I just realized that the heads I had rebuilt were not done right. Look for video on me installing new aftermarket head this week.

BTW, I also had to replace my heads after I did this video. The shop did a bad job on the driver side and 3 of the 4 seats backed out. I went ahead and bought some aftermarket aluminum heads but did not get a video for it. Run like a champ now. Still not getting over 12 miles/gallon thou.
Not a good idea to provide photo or video evidence of committing an illegal act. Very serious penalty to remove emissions equipment. While its not very probable you would ever get inspected, normally, unless your state requires inspection of emissions equipment )like Cali), but posting the evidence for all the world to see could lead to unwanted attention from authorities. Don;t blame you for removing, but I would never admit it on video.
i am very sorry , you tried to help people like me to do the same job on their ford, but the music you having on the video is annoying , such videos are helpful with more explanation and details than music,
@@markw1791 It wasn't to be rude. He is offering a refresher for many of us who haven't turned a wrench on an OBD1 Ford for a couple of decades. He has good info to offer, and hearing what HE has to say is why we are here. The background distractions do him a disservice, as well as make the vid nearly unwatchable.

Great video! A fuel injector guy told me once to wipe Vaseline around the seals on the injectors when you go to pop em in.
Im in process of stripping down my 5.8 but rebuilding it with a intake manifold and 4 barrel carb since its in my 1995 F150 , wish me luck :)

I have a 94 f250 plow truck..it has been a 30 year wonder...Same motor and Ford dependability...Original Trans ..Dana 50 front...been a great truck..
You should have put a set of GT40 heads on there

Might just as well pull the motor and change the oil pin gasket in the pump and transmission seal. And the rides and mains get it over with

did some things im not doing but otherwise it looked fairly easy. just want to replace my heads an put new or used ones on.

What symptoms did you notice that led you to rebuild the heads? And did you buy rebuilt heads, or have yours rebuilt?
So all the rockers exhaust and intake sides get torqued to 25 pounds and that’s it no gaging it ?
Did you get those vacuum lines figured out in that box
I believe so. Still working thru other issues in the fuel system right now.

What kind of bumper is that? It looks way better with out the black plastic trim on it
I think this is a XLT bumper but not sure. It was on the truck when I got it.
What about air pump and both cylinder Heads air pumps plugs on the back log the head. How did you. Plug it
I just used a couple of pipe plugs with thread sealer.

It’s a 351 Windsor not a 351 Modified…A 351 Modified is way easier to work on!

I put in a thin plate between the EGR and the throttle body. I am still working on why it is running very rich but it runs smooth.
If you keep the stock heads, you can find some bolts to simply plug up the crossover tube holes on the back of the heads

It could be rockers or even a small exhaust leak.

Where did you purchase the pully in place of the pump?
I picked it up from a local speed shop. I believe they sell them at most auto parts stores. It is a Air Pump replacement pulley.

yeah, the video is very helpful. I made a mistake on my vacuum lines and was able to go back in my video and see where they went.

actually at the end of the day I ended up leaving that stuff in the truck. it tends to cause check engine light to come on.
