Congratulations on your engagement, Kevin is a lucky lad to have such a wonderful soulmate. Ps. good on you for thinking of the kids, you are such a treasure.🌷
Im glad to see this project again. The removal of the EFI system is a bigger project that I would have anticipated, but it’s something I was curious of how it was done.
I would highly recommend upgrading your alternator to the 3G version, the 2G are known to not charge very well. All you need is put some 3G plugs on your existing alternator wire and grind off a bit of the alternator bracket as the 3G one is a bit bigger, but it will bolt up once that is done. I did it myself and have had no troubles with it. It also opens up other upgrades like putting in a new radio or any other higher power draw upgrades you might think to do.
The 2G is known to start fires, in fact, the replacement wiring harness warns it can catch on fire so its best to get them off ASAP, I put a 3G on a 73 Econoline, learned they must use a serpentine belt tho, it will burn up a V-belt, must run at least 2 v-belts when using on a vintage engine.
@@brandonjohnston7746 I have a guy who builds mine, while you can find 200 amp 3G alternators on ebay, you will not find the guts to build one, they have been discontinued, which has me skeptical of what is sold online as a 200 amp 3G, I believe they just swap the pulley to spin them faster. I can tell you the durability of the 3G is like no other, my wheelchair cable, 2 gauge, fell on my exhaust, welding itself to it, boiled over my battery putting the alternator in over charge, I don't know how long it was like that, did not damage the alternator, won me over. I was going to put one on my 89 E150, but my shop guy told me it is not a 2G as it should be, its a special order large case found on RV's and Ambulances.
Love the chemistry between y’all, it’s legit what I’m looking for. Also I see a couple times you got to play the classic mechanic game, “why am I bleeding?” Great video as always
i did a similar upgrade on my 81. had a 302 with an 86 efi bank fired system like this one had. i put in a weiand stealth intake, holley sniper kit, billet speed fx hei distributor, and also full length hooker headers with thrush welded mufflers turned down before the rear end. perfect old-school sound in my opinion. and my truck used to have the crappy aod trans and i put in a 5-speed from a 92 flareside. the 302 was from a 94 mustang so it has the roller cam in it. talk about waking up a truck. been running great for the last 5 years while only having to replace the o2 sensor after the first 11 months. anyway, love the videos and the work Mook does on vehicles. oh, almost forgot, get rid of the oem oil pump shaft and go with an ARP pump shaft to save yourself the future trouble of twisting the oem shaft in half like i did from having a heavy foot lmao keep them videos coming :)
GOOD EPISODE! I learned quite a bit about installing aftermarket fuel injection from this video. In the mid 80's fuel injection was near magic and Edelbrock made one that gave Chev 350's a really solid kick in the pants. Again, back then FI was considered "near magic". Damn I'm a fossil!
So from working on these 2G alternators myself and digging through forums, I'll give yall some helpful info. If the battery is dead and you try jump the car, its known to fry the 2Gs. It's best to recharge the battery, not jump. Its often typical to change both the battery and alternator in THIS type of setup. They also only go as high as like 110 amps depending on the model, usually around 75 amps for most. That's why people generally recommend installing a 3G and upgrading the gauge of wire for the charging system circuit.
Been missing you, Mook! Great to see you on here again. You never fail to entertain even folk like me who are really not that ‘into’ motor mechanic stuff.

Mook thanks for sharing your video. Kevin is obviously a big help. And your not scared. Your one of the best duets on the tube. Got a little more to do. Thanks for sharing!
That was a mud dauber nest. If you open it up it's full of zombie spiders. The mud dauber anesthetizes them so they stay alive but can't move. The larvae feed on them. There will be every kind of spider that lives in the area in there. Cool stuff. I thought you might like to know that since you like sliders, LOL!
I hate spiders, but Holy God of Chocolate, that's horrifying. I mean I just kill 'em, ZOMBIFY them and eat them alive? Wow, that's......nightmares for months for me.....😱😭
Hey Mook and Kevin 🖐, way cool to see Mook out in the garage on her truck. It's always good to family in the shop helping and having a good time. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good videos. Have a great weekend 👋
I love what you're doing to the truck replacing the wayyy outdated fuel system! This is exactly what I've been wanting to do to my 91 F250 with the 460🤠These 87-91 Ford trucks don't get as much attention as they often deserve...I can't wait to hear it run again!
I definitely agree. Hell, my dad actually has 3 ford trucks from that time frame (an 1987 Bronco, 1988 F450, and a 1990 F350) and all three are running
Kinda funny, I swear the only thing that works on my 1993 F150 IS the EFI system! AC? Nope... Heat? Sure, if you want the fan on full blast. Power windows? Eh, kinda? The drivers side window seems to want to fall into the door, rear gas tank leaks, front one is plastic so it should last another 30 years before turning to dust, and don't get me started on the rest of the truck, especially the oil gauge, which is just having a moment and flailing wildly around, it works when you're cruising but at idle the oil pressure is "AAAAAAAHHHHH!".
I bought Hooker ceramic coated headers for my 95 351 project truck, would not clear the frame on passenger side, couldn't tighten them at all. Summit support was great, took them back and I tried Headman, those slipped right in from below without even needing to remove the starter. Sadly they didn't have a ceramic coated version. Cool project you have going
Totally unrelated to the video, but I really hope you see this Mook. Just found Junkyard Digs/ your channel today because of that suicidal CBR golf cart contraption (which is awesome) and saw the Cutlass detail video. You two are fantastic and I wish you both the best. Honestly that gave me a proposal idea for my own girlfriend so, thank you both for being awesome in the most wholesome of ways.
i have an 88 f 150 with the same lame fi. i am rebuilding the top end and you inspired me to upgrade the fuel system. you might put a 3g upgrade on the alternator to put out 130 amps instead of 95.
Love your truck Mook, I imported an 87 F250 XLT LARIAT 460 into Australia, it’s wire with a red band and red trim too, I love the trim. I went with an 87 to avoid the prehistoric efi, I too have aftermarket efi, cam, manifold etc to fit to it, I’ve just fitted sniper to my 79 Vette, the Effie has atomic, I’ve had that before the sniper
That red interior is in emaculate condition bright red carpet isn't faded most of them are faded to pink from the 80s good looking old Ford Mook @Junkyard Mook
Looking forward to updates on this undertaking. I feel the pains of EFI conversion. I bought a Holley commander 950 circa the mid 2000's. In the last 3 years I decided to redo things and do FiTech. It taught me A LOT about what a "bolt on and go" fuel injection system really demands from a vehicle.
If I remember correctly a 4.0 90's Ford Explorer belt is the correct length for the air pump delete. (I had a 89 myself) In those years there is a aluminum piece in the column that actuates the ignition switch that cracks and breaks causing them not to crank as it can't push the switch hard enough. Tilting the column up might temporarily help.
Thank you Mook for your great content. If Kevin is going to keep outsourcing his hosting, he should totally outsource it to you, you make a great host, plus you work on cars and trucks. Great Job. 👍
Superduty bolt kit for the bed. Everything becomes accessible from above. Dorman 924311. You will have no regrets and they will work at least back to the 1973 model year with a slight modification to the width of the frame on the rear bolt only.
While in this case it did not work, it is always surprising how often whacking something with a hammer/pliers/chunk of wood can temporarily clear up an issue in older vehicles. My buddy had an old Rabbit with a dedicated starter-whacking board.
A lot of guys used to use RTV on top of the cork valve cover gasket (so it would adhere to the cover), and use grease on the side of the gasket facing the head (axle grease will seal in motor oil). This was to facilitate more convenient (and less messy) valve adjustments, as well as not needing to replace the gasket every single time.
You put a fuel pressure regulator on. So turn the key on and adjust the pressure. Check grounds and it has to have the vacuum hose. And drill the header and run a O2 sensor in.
I know I'm late. Mook, there's a really easy way to keep the twin tanks and keep modern EFI. Use a low pressure carbie pump in the second tank (or an external clicky clack) Then run a double T or pair of T barbs in the vent or the primary tank. Then you can pump the fuel from the second tank into the first, without needing one of the un reliable tank selectors.
It is so good to hear you are on the mind, I think it is amazing you are a mechanic I have two daughters and I tried to "show" them a few things on my F150 1996 with that straight 6, i loved it have been looking for another, I sold mine years ago 😭. Mook I always look forward to your videos. Your random corkiness is something that always makes my day I am looking forward to the next video that is a very nice truck. The shenanigans in your videos adds something special that is for sure.
Nice swap. I carb swapped my ‘90 F150. Used Ford intake from an ‘83 Mustang GT, used Holley 1850, new cheapo HEI dizzy, she runs goodly. So far, my AOD hasn’t self destructed. I did use the bracket for the TV cable. I’ve got an M5OD with all the goodies that will go in her eventually
Hey Mook, glad to see you and your brother working together, you make a good team. Kevin helping was a bonus 👍!!! Can’t wait to hear that classic run on its own. It’s going to sound awesome. Great video 😁
That’s a nice truck I’m glad you see You back working on it again, can’t wait to hear it going again, also congrats to you and Kevin if you didn’t see it on his channel!
Should've put the PCV in the driver's side valve cover if you're going to keep that vent filter on the passenger side valve cover. The way it is now there won't be much if any crankcase venting as you'll have no air flowing. That little detail aside, great video and looking fwd. to the next one!
Nice work y'all. The old dist pickup also triggers the injector timing through the ICU on those years, if I recall correctly. Also controls dwell angle. Dwell got moved to the ECU with the black ICU modules.
Regarding the factory bed mount bolts, one can use Torx head bolts and U-nuts in place of the original style shoulder bolts & nuts that are so prone to becoming one piece. I have done this with a couple of OBS truck beds and sourced my bolts & nuts from late '90s Rangers. Remember to also use a proper anti-seize compound when reinstalling the bed.
okay i have the 91 version of this exact truck.... this alone helps me so damn much and just want to say YOU GO GIRL (talking to mook) pushing that truck by your self even a few inchs is a feat!!
If headers that are made for both the engine and cab touch the cab like that, I suggest checking the cab mounts for potential sag. If the cab mounts check out, complain to the header company that they didn't bend the headers right! Also, Ford engine mounts have come apart, effecting headers, but maybe earlier ones. T289 chained his engine down. I don't care much about power anymore, since I stopped speeding, but if that is 2wd, the headers might save weight in the nose and thereby help traction compared to the cast iron.
Looking forward to seeing this completed. Been wanting to update the EFI on my 95 150 5.8. Factory injection on these are so limited and restrict most bolt ons. Thanks for the content as always and glad to see ya back Mook. Oh, and congrats to the both of you on the engagement.
95 will have a roller cam, the two 95 5.8 I have had out lasted the bodies 95 Bronco 280k miles 95 E350 400k miles, both motors and transmissions live on in other vehicles.
Hey mrs digs congrats on your engagement from this side of the video you guys make the perfect couple and I wish the two of you a happy healthy marriage now that being said I love your videos please keep up the great content
I've got a 90 F150 4x4 extra cab and had problem with fuel it ended up being the switch on the dash. I had to test it a lot cause it wouldn't do it every time and that's with the switch being out and on my bench. Then I couldn't find the right replace switch with the right face so I had to take apart the old and the new switches and modify to fit and that took care of it. I would have like to have seen all of the removing of the fuel lines and everything you did. Sorry for this being long. You done the right thing by going with the long tube headers I'm putting on the shorty "bolt in" headers and one side is not the same as the other right is smaller and mine was a true dual exhaust now I'm stuck until move funds are found for new exhaust it could use it but it still had some life left but the new shorty's still look good under the hood 👍
I put one of the FI Tech setups (when these bolt on efi setups had just come out) on my 302 Ford ranger and used a HEI dizzy setup and lit right off, made things so easy to wire.
Ready for the next one guys, stay after it she's gonna rip 👌 love your channel Mook you two are perfect for each other, can't wait to see where this truck goes
Ford eecIV multi port fuel injection is one of the most supported systems to make power with out there. Putting that carburetor intake on there sacrifices a lot of runner length and torque production over the factory stock intake too

To be honest I wanted more carnage haha 🤪
JUNKYARD MOOK ROCKS...SHE'S CRAZY AND COOL!!!!
Good to see the pickumup back in the garage!!
That’s a nice truck I’m glad you see
You back working on it again, can’t wait to hear it going again, also congrats to you and Kevin if you didn’t see it on his channel!
It's always good to see Junkyard Dad™ and Junkyard Bro™ in a video 😊
Should've put the PCV in the driver's side valve cover if you're going to keep that vent filter on the passenger side valve cover. The way it is now there won't be much if any crankcase venting as you'll have no air flowing. That little detail aside, great video and looking fwd. to the next one!
Glad ya axed the smog pump . I have an 89 f350 that I've been thinking of doing the modern FI on , it's good to know I can scale the harness back alot
Nice work y'all. The old dist pickup also triggers the injector timing through the ICU on those years, if I recall correctly. Also controls dwell angle. Dwell got moved to the ECU with the black ICU modules.
That seems like a nice, clean install. Most folks don't have a lift to raise the box. Great job guys.
Good to see you again good luck with the trucks see you soon
Congratulations to you and Kevin on your engagement.
Thank you Mook, oh yeah and you too Kevin - can't wait for part 4
Yeah I've had an 87 and a 94 F150 and anything before 96 is crap once they get miles on them. They can't really compensate for engine wear
Hey mrs digs congrats on your engagement from this side of the video you guys make the perfect couple and I wish the two of you a happy healthy marriage now that being said I love your videos please keep up the great content
This is an awesome project, been waiting for Mook to get back to the Nova but this will do nicely!
The new hairdo looks great Mook. The ol’ford coming along, looking good Mook👍🏻
Congrats Mook! You guys are an awesome pair !
Yes! Mook's back love that truck ❤❤
Got it close to running. I am sure you guys will get it done next time!
Ford eecIV multi port fuel injection is one of the most supported systems to make power with out there. Putting that carburetor intake on there sacrifices a lot of runner length and torque production over the factory stock intake too
