It's just easier to say Disneyland is in a suburb of L.A. and that is the truth. But people from places like New York City are used to seeing suburbs as boring, powerless, not as sophisticated as the city and detached from the city. They would say "My best friend lives OUTSIDE New York City": I would say " I was raised in the Los Angeles AREA". L. A. and its suburbs form a network and share power. The TV stations are in the suburb of Burbank. Our nationally televised parade that is on the same level as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is in the suburb of Pasadena. So for someone who sees things that way, you don't have to strain to make them understand that Disneyland is not in L.A. city.
My son worked in Burbank for a few years. While he was at work, I explored. It was easy to get a bus a few blocks from his apartment to downtown LA and walk all over the downtown. Bonus: the bus went through Chinatown, part of Griffith Park, Los Felices, and other neighborhoods we'd never visited before. When I asked to go to the Huntington Library and Gardens, my son drove us to Pasadena where that amazing place is located, despite its Riverside address. Afterwards we parked at the Pasadena train station for not much money and took the train for a last-chance run into downtown LA. Because that train is elevated, we got to see huge swathes of the industrial side of the city, something neither of us had considered because nobody talks about manufacturing in LA. When he and his wife moved closer to the Bob Hope Airport, they had to drive me to the subway station in North Hollywood. Wow. A clean, safe neighborhood and trains filled with friendly people!

Great tips. I have some two cents of my own, as someone who has been living here for 20+ years and counting: 1. About the weather. Yeah, we do get overcast days, particularly in May and June. But that's not what I would warn travelers about. LA weather can get HOT... very hot in the summer and early fall months. We will always have a couple days of the year where the thermometer hits over 100 degrees (40C for non-Americans). In some really bad years, the temperatures can hit as high as 110 degrees. I once returned from a trip to Canada. A Canadian family by me told me they wanted to bring their kids to Disneyland. They came in October, and unfortunately, it just happened to be one of those years with a really long summer; even though it was October, it was still like 95 degrees outside. I don't know how well people from colder climates can get used to walking around in 95 to 100 degree weather outside all day. 2. I disagree about public transportation. LA subway is extremely limited, and while it does take you to some tourist sites, unless you plan on only visiting those limited tourist sights near the subway stations, you will need a car to get around.
This, especially if you're heading into the SFV for things like burbank, Calabasas, or topanga overlook, expect temps to be anywhere from 5-15⁰f hotter.

I think there’s tons of friendly people in both LA and NYC, I’ve had wonderful experiences with strangers in both. Talk of entire cities being “unfriendly” is so ridiculous and overblown.
@@YellowProductions I’ve always live out in the country. Big cities like LA are fun to visit, but get overwhelming after a few days. Griffith Park / Observatory was like a little slice of heaven to me.
Quadruple check your parking spot for highly conditional no-parking signs. There's specific days and times where parking isn't allowed and it varies block to block. When I lived in Pasadena I had to move my car all the time to avoid parking tickets in front of my own house. And really look up and down the street to be absolutely sure you didn't miss any signs. Have gotten so many tickets in LA. There's these little 3 wheel parking enforcement cart thingies cruising around and giving out tickets all the time. But if you're just ubering and walking, then no worries really outside of the normal big city pick pockets, etc. I much preferred Bob Hope (Burbank) airport over LAX when I did have to fly in/out. I've also taken Amtrak a ton of times between LA and San Diego, including the Anaheim stop he mentioned. For me that's way less stress than driving. If you have the time.
We are friendly, we just don't make small talk with strangers. And there are many places to walk, but you can't walk from one to the other, have to drive.
3:55, While beaches have the best air quality, the best time to see LA & the mountains smogless (or nearly) is the day after a rainstorm has clearerd away or during sustained winds after high winds day. Clears that smoggy inversion layer over LA right out. In fact, as I write this is one of those sustained windy days and the veiw of the mountains from San Pedro (the Port of Los Angeles) is quite a beautiful one today.
I'm an LA native and I get super anxious when people talk about my city, hoping they do it justice. Good video, and made me proud to live here. On the topic of culture, we have an amazing car culture, we have incredible artistry and social movements. LA is amazing. I think we're friendly people
stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Move out of LA (like everyone else) and u will experience friendly. There is a law for everything u do (in la) once u leave your house. You are not treated as an individual, but a class or race of people who has to pay for the transgression of one wayward person (make sense). Don't forget the homelessness spurred on by (god forbid) illegal immigration that no one is allowed to do anything about. Keep drinking the koolaid.
People in LA DO walk but just because we walk DOES NOT make it a good walking / pedestrian friendly city. Having grown up here in LA with a working class family, we took the bus and walked out of necessity. It’s not a great place to walk for leisure. Also the “walkable” neighborhoods are always in the wealthier places.
Some things: I love "we have bad weather. See how we have some clouds?" Yeah, we can get wind/rain/heat, but we don't have snow or hurricanes. "Nobody walks in LA" doesn't mean "there isn't a single area where people walk." It means that most people are going to need a car to get around. Our city is sprawling, and our public transportation system is weak. I work two miles from my house and it would take me hours to get there if I tried to do it on a bus. I'm fortunate enough to live close to the Red Line (now the B Line), so I can actually take the subway downtown. But I rode it today for the first time since COVID, and holy cow that thing has gone downhill. The cars were filthy. You don't need to go to Skid Row to see people who are homeless. They are everywhere, including people surviving by riding the subway all day. I love that you said "LA isn't expensive" while standing in front of the Griffith Observatory, where parking is $15 an hour.
I lived in SoCal for several years. Think of it as like a more horizontal NYC, with the population density but much less 'tude. I remember the people of SoCal being quite friendly. I then moved to NorCal; many seemed uptight and bitchy around the Bay Area. I then moved to Texas hoping for friendlier people, and nuh-uh! There are plenty of pissy people and poor customer service in Texas' major cities. LA County, OC, Ventura...it's where it's at, y'all!
I'd say weather it is nicer comparing to other states. Also, you can get a ride from Downtown LA to Disneyland. The metro bus will take you straight to Disneyland, a bit of long ride but leaves you right in from of Disneyland. Check it out, I used the service a couple times. 👍
This was a great video! Your friend from Yellow Productions was super knowledgable! I really liked that he basically said everything I thought of LA, I've visited twice. And yeah, I didnt get sny smog air, it was pretty nice to me. The trains are convenient to take if you are in Hollywood. I didn't find L.A so expensive and I'm from NYC. Just stay away from the places you know will be expensive like Beverly Hills/Rodeo Drive, or Calabasas. DTLA is great for an evening out! L.A Live has alot going on for entertainment: shows, Lakers games at Staples Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Grammy museum. It def gets cold at night ughhh! I'm wondering if it's ever warm at night some time during the year. And yes ppl in LA can be much friendlier than ppl in NYC lol
Neither tbh, for L.A. the cost of living is super high and not worth it not to mention the price of gas being anywhere from $4 a gallon to $5 a gallon and the homelessness is ridiculous. For las vegas, as far as I know, is that as soon as you leave the strip things are bad, but idk much about vegas tbh.
I'm visiting LA this February but I opted for a direct flight from the midwest to the John Wayne Airport. I get in on a Friday afternoon, whats the best way to get up to downtown or Holywood? Take a Lyft?
Yes, renting a car or taking a Lyft would be best. TBH, I Iive in LA and I don’t think it’s a great place to visit. Lots to see in SoCal but LA is a big, hectic, expensive, and disjointed city. Unless you need to be here for a specific reason, there are much nicer places to visit in SoCal… i.e. Palm Springs, Laguna Beach, Joshua Tree, San Diego…
Watching as a local 😁 people think we aren't friendly? I'd say for the most part we're easy going, approachable, and helpful. We just want to have a good time 🤙🏼
Skid row area is interesting. Though it has gotten worse over the years, in the early 2000 I use to walk around it cause there are some beautiful old buildings there
@@YellowProductions It's nice to have a break from the sunshine every once in awhile. Shortly after moving to SoCal from the Midwest, I worked with a native Californian who said she liked when it rained. I didn't because I was used to so much rain in the Midwest. Eventually I realize what she meant.
I lived in California for 20 years and moved back to the East Coast. Seeing dried up brown mountains and browness everywhere along with Mars-like skies from forest fires gets tiring. I like the sound and smell of rain and that smoky smell in the air during winter!
I’ve been to LA a few times and I know that the public transportation is horrible they run late a ton and skip stops it very confusing. If you are familiar with nyc transportation LA is the opposite and make sure you watch your stops almost got killed on fig.
Actually there are ways to get to Disney land by bus in downtown LA you take the 460 which stop at 7th and flower which is right there at the 7th street metro center which is where all the subway trains meetup
This is a bus that take you from Downtown L.A. to Disneyland. Its the bus 460 and it free till the end of 2021, but get ready to sit comfortably because it will take over 2 hours.
I actually was caught up into two myths. I thought the people were going to be mean but they were really cool. The weather was actually cool last month. We asked someone where is the weather we hear about all the time. People give them slack about the healthy food but the Veggies were really good they tasted more natural. Didn't see a ton of overweight people because they were more active walking, biking, surfing, and the food. In Malibu it was mainly local establishment. Branded fast foods you had to really want it bc it was 30mins out.
The best way to explore LA is ride the subway, get off at every stop, and walk the area around the station. You’ll quickly realize that every stop has its own culture.
I would never suggest to anyone visiting LA that they go near the subway. Rent a car, and try to connect with someone who lives in the city. Los Angeles is a very hard place to understand unless you've lived there for many years. A guide can help.
To be fair, those studios that you mentioned that DO still produce and have tours are in NORTH Hollywood.....on the other side of the Hollywood Hills....and nearby to the east, a little.....the exception being the Gower Studio complex...on the corner of Gower and Sunset...formerly the Columbia Pictures Studio where The Three Stooges Shorts were produced...among others.
There is a metro bus that goes all the way to a block away from the main entrance of disneyland off of venice blvd. So there is one way although not great
I wonder how the homeless problem is in LA. When I was last there in 2019,there were miles and miles of streets, especially in downtown LA,full of homeless people. And also along Venice Beach.
I grew up in So Cal for the better part of 30 years and can absolutely say people can be friendly but most people tend to keep to the people they know. There are definitely neighborhood where everyone knows everyone but i think that is decreasing in general. Also traffic is as bad or worse than you think. There are a ton of unsafe places in LA, and rent/housing is sky high. Honestly if you can, leave. The only great things about so cal is the weather and the beach. If thats enough for you to stay great, but if not, leave now!
i really want to move to la i was looking at the west or Sacramento it’s going to be so hard for me first you need a good job and good qualifications which I don’t really have or you have alot of money dope don’t have that too and or marry someone to get a green card but like you say it’s going to expensive even if I were not to go to LA it sill going to be so hard to get into the usa i’m from the uk as well and i would like to take my family with me my mom and step dad and my sister but my mom is on a lot of meds as well COPD medication and asthmatic medication virtually impossible I might have to let go of the dream
True! Way back in the 80's I was staying out by Disneyland and had gone into Downtown LA to meet someone at the New Otani Hotel 🏨 in Korea Town. As I recall I had to take an RTA Bus known as the 'Freeway Flyer' to get back out there! I think we took the 5 Freeway and it took awhile! So Yeah No Do like Mark says and concentrate on the area you're in LA and OC are 2 entirely different destinations Both worthy of ample time to explore them!

I'm grateful for videos like this, but the more I watch, the more I'm becoming both under and overwhelmed about my trip. I'm also worried because I don't drive & that ubers will cost a fortune due to traffic when public transport isn't an option
I couldn't help but expect when Chris was saying, "People are much friendlier in Los Angeles than in New York City," I was waiting for an off camera, "Eh go F yerself pal." That would have been complete comedy gold! Excellent video lads.
One thing i would say about LA as a brit, is our introduction to LA was the riots and gangland trouble around crenshaw etc. So from that people are of opinion that the whole city is one big ganster land, Especially people of my generation who grew up in the 80s in UK. Think that would have been a myth 11 :)
Los Angeles gets way too much hate. I personally wouldn’t want to live there but it’s really not as bad as people say. I was just there in the summer and had a great time
Fwiw paramount is still in Hollywood. There are rental lots in Hollywood like ren mar and Raleigh studios, and sunset gower (originally Columbia) . CBS at Beverly Fairfax and formerly Columbia square . And the prospect lot is in Hollywood
They still do filming in Hollywood so not a myth. I was here the same time as y'all and we couldn't go to a speakeasy in Hollywood because it was shut down for filming 😒
As an L.A County native, I agree with Chris. While we do have the most random weather, it’s mostly sunny year round. Also, Anaheim (Disneyland) is a completely different county and a very long drive if you are staying anywhere North of L.A. I live in South L.A close to Long Beach and it’s a 25 minute drive with no traffic. I couldn’t tell you how long it takes with public transportation tho, we all basically drive everywhere.
I live in Ventura County and it’s about an hr and a half drive depending on traffic. A 45 min - 1 hr drive to get anywhere ‘touristy’ is pretty standard for us. Malibu and downtown LA are around 45 min, SB is an hr, Big Bear is an hr and a half. I personally don’t find it to be that bad but it could be because I’m just used to all the driving. Lol.
Having lived in LA for the last 2+ years...I disagree with most of this. There's a lot to love about LA, but I don't think many of these myths are too off-base.
I feel like the Summer Olympics should just stay in LA, instead of going from city to city bankrupting them. Well, it did do well in Atlanta back in 1996.
I was raisedin Los Angeles area (born in Switzerlandz0 today San Francisco must be the most unfriendliest and ruderst city, yes in my experience on living here 10% friendly and really so, but unfortunately this has deteriorated as a city of zombies, very unmannered, uncultered, and very rude! Food is good there, but you don't want the 90% of the people on the menu! Really it has been quite rude and barbarous as well!
The best month for enjoying Southern California beaches is August. There's no overcast, the waves are fun size and the air and water temperatures are perfect! 👌
Actually there are 2 studios located in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles; Sunset Gower Studios and Paramount Pictures Studios. And there are many celebrities and stars who reside in Hollywood and you can go see them at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
I will explain friendly in LA...We will have a half hour conversation with a perfect stranger about the weather but we can not tell you our next door neighbors name. I am glad to hear that the people of LA are very friendly and that there are some exciting things to do in downtown LA. I do want to visit LA at some point as I have not been there yet (I don't count my layover at LAX two years ago).
Thanks Scott! It was fun to collab with Mark!
Wolter's world and Yellow Productions are my two favorite travel channels on UA-cam. Keep up the great work guys!!!!!
I think there’s tons of friendly people in both LA and NYC, I’ve had wonderful experiences with strangers in both. Talk of entire cities being “unfriendly” is so ridiculous and overblown.
Griffith Observatory is one of my favorite places in the world!
Awesome Eric!
Great points Sandro!
Really impressive presentation! Quite informative. Thanks!
Yes, I waited for years for this video to come out. This will help my trip. Thanks.
This was such a cool format! I can’t wait to see more videos like this.
I freaking love yellow productions. Watch his videos almost daily
Chris is awesome. I used his videos for buffets in Vegas. I'm liking the collaborations
thanks!
I'm an LA native and I get super anxious when people talk about my city, hoping they do it justice. Good video, and made me proud to live here. On the topic of culture, we have an amazing car culture, we have incredible artistry and social movements. LA is amazing. I think we're friendly people
Thanks James! Glad to hear you think I did LA appropriately! Means alot from an LA native
LA people are mean, nasty, and diabolical for the most part. Tons of scammers asking for money all the time.
So car culture is a positive aspect now? Interesting
stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Some things:
I love "we have bad weather.
Wow. Great video. Very informative. Hoping to visit sometime soon. 👍
The best thing about Los Angeles is that it’s a fairly close drive to either Santa Barbara or San Diego.
But not a close walk.
True true!
Right on!
I'm a native Californian, 3rd generation....have lived in TX, it sucked!
Weird my experience was the complete opposite. The people of Norcal, Texas, and NYC are very nice to me. In LA pure evil.
Yep. I love Los Angeles 👌❤ it's the entertainment capital of the world!
@@susannyysti869 Texas is soo boring.. I've been there and the weather felt depressing there.. lol
Love seeing you two do a video together! Great collab!!!
Thanks Means to Travel! Fun to collab with Mark!
Thanks Eliz!
I'd say weather it is nicer comparing to other states. Also, you can get a ride from Downtown LA to Disneyland. The metro bus will take you straight to Disneyland, a bit of long ride but leaves you right in from of Disneyland. Check it out, I used the service a couple times. 👍
Great tips Ariel! Get loss in the city! Love it!! ❤
Good video, good advice. Takes me back. Extra points for quoting the song Walking in LA!!
ya as a Canadian i think i would still have shorts on at night if i was in California , 15c is still hot lol more so in southern California
Yeah I know I do even when it's "cold"
I have shorts on year round in California!
@@YellowProductions When I lived there I did too!
And yes ppl in LA can be much friendlier than ppl in NYC lol
whoa! Chris busted all the myths I kept in mind! Good job, fellow travelers!
Thanks Andrew!
I'm looking at going to L.A/Vegas next year for to see about where's a good place to live, very excited :)
Idk abt los angeles. But for vegas try summerlin, henderson or enterprise, Or the aliante area
Can't wait to travel USA with my wife greetings from Mexico
Chris gets 4 and a 1/2 Tophers for debunking these myths.
I'll be back next year to stop in LA before boarding a cruise to the Mexican Riviera
Aww.... Thanks Tosh!
California has its own language
Watching as a local 😁 people think we aren't friendly? I'd say for the most part we're easy going, approachable, and helpful. We just want to have a good time 🤙🏼
I loved the people in LA. It was great. Pretty much everyone I met was super nice
That's why it's a myth! :)
So happy to see both of you collaborating
Skid row area is interesting. Though it has gotten worse over the years, in the early 2000 I use to walk around it cause there are some beautiful old buildings there
I’ll take some slightly overcast weeks over rainstorms and snow any day. Sounds like it’s still amazing weather to me! :)
Yeah it was cloudy for a 3 days and then went back to normal with sunshine (:
The weather is still pretty good even when it's cloudy :)
Sounds awful to me. I love 4 seasons
New York has very friendly people.
I’ve been to LA a few times and I know that the public transportation is horrible they run late a ton and skip stops it very confusing. If you are familiar with nyc transportation LA is the opposite and make sure you watch your stops almost got killed on fig.
Also dont expect you can hop on amtrack and travel all of ca. They have you get off a lot of places and take busses in between. Its insane
All true. I’ve lived in the area for more than 70 years and love it. If you come, have fun and view this video again for the great tips.
Wow 16 cities gives me some kinda hope .your video helpt ya boy out
💐
Actually there are ways to get to Disney land by bus in downtown LA you take the 460 which stop at 7th and flower which is right there at the 7th street metro center which is where all the subway trains meetup
This is a bus that take you from Downtown L.A. to Disneyland. Its the bus 460 and it free till the end of 2021, but get ready to sit comfortably because it will take over 2 hours.
It's cloudy but apparently it's still t-shirt weather. My friend in Idaho tells me snow is expected.
2:49 ...but the June Gloom *is* perfect weather lol.
Great vid, especially the Casey Neistat shoutout 😍 one fav creator’s channel mentioning my other!
so cool thank u for this!!!
The best way to explore LA is ride the subway, get off at every stop, and walk the area around the station. You’ll quickly realize that every stop has its own culture.
Great tip Vanessa!
@@YellowProductions Bad idea. Stations have become homeless shelters and people smoke meth in the trains.
I would never suggest to anyone visiting LA that they go near the subway. Rent a car, and try to connect with someone who lives in the city. Los Angeles is a very hard place to understand unless you've lived there for many years. A guide can help.
I'm pretty sure there are too many stations no one would ever wish to get off and walk the surrounding area.
Don't do this on the blue or green line.
Great appearance by Yellow Productions!😃
Thanks trueblue!
What's that bag Chris has? The strap looks really familiar.
Chris is the man, yellow productions is definitely one of my favorite channels.
Thanks Eric
Thanks Eric! Mark is the man too! :)
Been to L.A. many times, know my way all around that city and have an excellent group of best friends out there as well
Thanks for posting such a useful video!
Actually, you can take the 460 bus from downtown LA to Disneyland. The catch is it takes over 2 hours each way, so that's a big chunk out of your day.
That's a long bus ride!
There is a metro bus that goes all the way to a block away from the main entrance of disneyland off of venice blvd. So there is one way although not great
Great video!
4:21 - Don't forget Koreatown - it's a great walking area. It feels like an actual city.
Great tip Nicholas!
Save the human feces, I agree
Fun! I love the collab!
I wonder how the homeless problem is in LA.
When I was last there in 2019,there were miles and miles
of streets, especially in downtown LA,full of homeless people.
And also along Venice Beach.
It hasn't improved much
These are the areas that have always been like that. Its nothing new. Its just more visible nowadays in other areas.
I love downtown LA it's amazing to see I will be in LA in April
Will you visit more Balkan countries? Saw that you already have been in Solvenia and Croatia
All the unfriendly Los Angelinos moved down here to San Diego . . .
Did i just see you in Savannah, Georgia today?
Yes

460 Metro bus DTLA to Disneyland .. this man tryna have y’all at Union Station on the Amtrak lol
Ever been to Paramount Studios? It’s in Hollywood. Gower Studios? Raleigh Studios? There are at least 20 motion picture and television studios in Hollywood proper.
Hah
I do agree that people in LA are really friendly, it's more friendly than Miami
/ Broward area
There is a way to get from DTLA to Disneyland on a bus. It just takes a long time cuz it's a bus. The 460.
It'a faster to take the train from Union Station to Anaheim.
I like how he says DTLA isn't bad but does it from about as far away as you can get from there and still see it, haha!
Hah! I was in DTLA just a couple weeks ago filming Little Tokyo and the Arts District... and I've got plenty of other videos in DTLA :)
might be a "grass is greener" situation but i always thought it was to hot and dry here. not having ac when its 112°F is not always fun
That would not be fun
Another place to see movie/tv stars is Santa Monica near the Pier. Well that’s where I saw them during my internship.
They still do filming in Hollywood so not a myth. I was here the same time as y'all and we couldn't go to a speakeasy in Hollywood because it was shut down for filming 😒
That’s a location shoot and the exception to the rule. The actual studios aren’t in the Hollywood neighborhood
Lol.
@@BubblyViolin11 yes! Plus our drives are nice and sunny, while listening to some Phantom Planet driving down the 101 and PCH :D
Having lived in LA for the last 2+ years...I disagree with most of this. There's a lot to love about LA, but I don't think many of these myths are too off-base.
But also LA is extending its rapid transit system especially when it is hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Great Video and nice colab.
Thanks Travel Best Destinations!
thank you for this
I’m going to East LA next month to stay with a friend. Kinda nervous
It was fine?
The best month for enjoying Southern California beaches is August. There's no overcast, the waves are fun size and the air and water temperatures are perfect! 👌
I've walked all over california and downtown LA. The busses have no shocks I've taken the train to long Beach
Actually there are 2 studios located in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles; Sunset Gower Studios and Paramount Pictures Studios. And there are many celebrities and stars who reside in Hollywood and you can go see them at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Thanks for the tip on the Cemetary :)
No, there are way more LARGE studios than that in the Hollywood Media District. About six more on large lots with soundstages.
@@YellowProductions I was hoping you'd take it as a quip. I like your channel.
