You can actually out run a galleon in a sloop you need to go against the wind and then you can out run them

My only suggestion is to be hyper aware of your surroundings. Example, I was on a voyage recently and ended up sailing between two gallons that were in the area. One was port close to a rocky outcrop near an island, the other to my starboard. The starboard ship decided to give chase, quickly closing the distance. I ran with the wind a bit until our ships were other side of the rocks where the port Gallons was. St this point I raised sail a bit to tighten turn while moving and sailed straight for the rocks. I hoped they wouldn’t follow, but if they did there would be a surprise on the other side. Sure enough they chased me through, and as I exited the outcropping I quickly tacked towards the second gallon sailing right past as they didn’t see me coming. However, it did alert them as they too tried to set sail and take me. It was at this point however the starboard gallon made it through the rocks and ran smack dab into the second hostile. I made it to port at the outpost close by, turned over my haul of pigs and chicken and then watched as they tore each other apart and laughing the whole time.

Definitely some friendly players out there! I was on a solo sloop solving a riddle on an island when a duo sloop pulled up. I waved to let them know I was friendly. After some hesitation, they jumped off their ship and started doing an Order of Souls mission. I continued trying to solve my riddle. A couple of minutes in, I saw they were being bombarded so I went over and helped them kill the skeletons and captains. I didn't make a move toward their skulls when the captains were defeated. They grabbed their loot and left without touching me or my ship. A little while later, I pulled up to the outpost with loot - about 1.3k worth of gold. One of them boarded my ship and shot me in the back. I jumped off the side of the ship, ate a banana, and got back on. When I did, the guy saw my name, realized it was me, and spammed "Sorry!". He walked past my loot which included a captain's chest and a skull...and didn't touch it. They both got on their ship and waved at me as they sailed away and I turned in all my loot. They had me outnumbered 2 to 1 and could easily have killed me...they had already turned all their stuff in so they had nothing to lose. If it hadn't been me, who had helped them earlier, they would have killed me and stolen my stuff. So, the moral of the story? Being friendly to others can sometimes be beneficial...even if those other pirates are usually hostile. Still...be wary. Have fun on the seas! Don't kill me if you see me ;) lol

Mortar Chelle Hello everyone, JesseTatto mentioned keeping the cannons pointed to the sky to indicate friendly intentions. I did that yesterday, hoping to invite other pirates for social gatherings instead of just “kill and loot”. If you see a pirate w a nametag of IrishBrigade on a sloop w cannons high. That’s me, I’m friendly and do not start fights. It would be fun to sail w other sloops (safer in numbers) and go on quests. I don’t even care about a share in the loot. Just to chat w other pirates would be cool.

your gunpowder barrel tactic if storing them below deck is a TERRIBLE idea. 9 times out of 10 you will get shot with cannon balls. If that cannon ball splash damage knicks that barrel, BOOM your ship is done. the safest place for gunpowder barrels on the ship is going to be the crows nest. Yes it takes time to climb the ladder and grab a barrel, but if they explode, its the ONLY place on a ship that they will cause no damage.

If your boat is near an island while your looking for a chest or supplies, raise the sails and then turn instead of having to use and then proceed to raise the anchor. This is effective when say another sloop or even a galleon is coming straight towards your sloop because all you have to do to start moving to lower the sails which takes around 2-3 seconds max instead of raising the anchor for 5-10 seconds.

Just don't use the anchor at all. With fully raised sails both ships eventually just come to a full stop.
A good Galleon crew can raise sails approaching an island, disembark and let the captain drift in to a good resting space without ever wasting time dealing with the anchor.

Trick them into sailing off the map. I did that to escape a galleon and used the anchor trick to turn around fast while they went to far into the red water and sank really fast.

If you have all “Shores Of Gold” tall tales completed, it’s possible to start the final tale and obtain the Shroudbreaker. From there, it’s possible to sail in to the Shroud and not die. It’s a rather cheap strategy, but if you have a good haul of loot, it is still viable.

  • @ell635

Nice video, I came across a Galleon crew that were a very well oiled machine, they worked together incredibly well. We’d finished the Skeleton Fleet and I’m not sure what it rewards now but back then the Final ships left all the loot and we have about 6 Skeletons Captains Chests and 6 skeletons Captains Skulls If memory serves.
We were heading to an outpost to cash in and a Galleon exited the Outpost. We decided to proceed with caution when suddenly the Galleon turned our direction so we began to flee. A Pirate got fired from their cannon into water trying to dock if we continued in our same direction so lucky we’d turned. The Galleon pursued us. We tried every outmanoeuvre in the books, sailed close to islands, anchor turned, sailed near rocks, sailed against wind, guarded our ladders and prevented boarders.
We even tried to board their ship but they diverted course incredibly well anytime we attempted this. Anything we did they didn’t stop pursuing and we were certain that they knew what treasure we had otherwise the pursuit would’ve been given up at some stage considering the evasive lengths we took.
Eventually I needed to patch a couple holes in our lower deck and felt the Galleon crew might use this time to attempt to board as they were trying everything in the book. The holes needed patching regardless of my concerns, so I told my friend to guard the ladders whilst I’m patching up the ship. He didn’t and he stayed on the wheel, and low and behold I hear our anchor dropped. My heart sank. This Galleon crew didn’t give up, and eventually they won the day. Our first and only mistake would be our last in terms of saving that treasure,
I was infuriated yet astonished at how well the Galleon crew had worked together. Sails turning, anchor turning, everything was done with minimal time because they did it together. I hope few of you experience that or else this videos tips can not save you. But these are good tips from this video. Be specially aware and watch the horizon like a paranoid hawk if your hauling lots of treasure or even just a few important items you can’t afford to lose.

I just out smarted a galleon crew, my friend and I went into the red ocean. I had my friend repair and dump water, I helped when I could. Didn't expect the galleon to follow us in but when it did, I waved a cheerful wave as I watched and recorded it sink. Helpful tip, a sloop can withstand the red ocean (out of boundaries) a lot better than a galleon can.

I have a nice 2 man sloop strategy that can work against a galleon if executed well. Before you get into a battle be sure to prepare by getting a gunpowder barrel from the skeleton forts or on some islands if you are lucky. Dedicate one player for offense and the other for defense. The offensive player will stay in the crows nest with the gunpowder barrel with him while the other steers the ship and angles the sails.
Now when you are about to engage in a battle, maneuver your sloop to get into the enemy ships blind spot. Try to do this while a decent distance away so they can't shoot at you. Most of the time they will try to turn in an effort to get you out of their blind spot and their boat will be relatively still while it's busy turning. Since the sloop can turn very easily, you can slowly circle in on them in their blind spot unless they are extremely coordinated but most crews cant communicate as efficiently as a 2 man sloop anyways. Try to always stay in their blind spot while circling around them while making each approach closer to them than before.
By now you are close enough to start the attack. If the enemy ship stopped turning try to stay in their blind spot but it isn't nessasary at this point because you circled close enough to close some distance without the enemy having enough time to shoot at you to cause serious damage.
Now when you are close to their ship, ram your sloop into their ship from the front or preferably the back so the player on the crows nest can jump off and board their ship with the gun powder barrel. If you ram the side and the offensive player jumps off, there is a chance that he will over shoot and fall into the water. Now the player steering the sloop will break off and repair the ship then get the sloop back in the enemy ships blind spot.
Once the offensive player is on their ship, he immediately goes to the bottom deck then shoots the barrel causing more damage with the damage the sloop caused when ramming the boat.
The enemy can't shoot the player with the barrel because it might explode killing them all and if they use a sword, they might not hit the offensive player because he won't stop moving until the barrel is detonated.
Now the offensive player simply protects the damage at the bottom deck and tries to distract the enemy by lowering their anchor, killing them with a blunderbus, and maybe a sword. The offensive player also must try and use the enemies resources so he is always at max health and ammo.
While all of this is going on, the player with the sloop repairs their own boat and gets in their blind spot and starts raining down cannon balls uppon the enemy ship.
The enemies must choose to repair the hull, or move the ship out of the sloops way and eventually the ship will sink.
It doesn't matter if the offensive player dies because he will respond at the sloop which is close by and he can just shoot himself out of the cannon towards the ship.
This attack will last at most 1-3 minutes and the enemy crew will most likely panic because of everything that is going on. The most important thing is communication between the 2 players because you don't need a gunpowder barrel to sink their ship it's just a *bonus*. It is possible to just corner the enemy ship into a nearby island which can cause the enemy to beach themselves which at that point is game over.
This strategy is one of the best for 2 players when perfected and doesn't take a lot of preperation and choose the best pvp player to be the offensive one. Also make sure the offensive player knows the layout of every ship so he can replenish supplies. Hope you enjoy my strategy and congratulations if you made it this far.

Don't drop the gunpowder over the back and hope they run into it. Make sure they are following, and your course is true, jump off while holding the gunpowder and swim with it so you can adjust and have a better chance of hitting them. If you let go directly in front or swim into the hull and die you can respawn on your boat and make your get away while they are dealing with the damage.

I hear you explaining the differences between a sloop and a galleon and how the sloop is more agile. And equipping weapons and clothing? Here’s a real tip when engaging a galleon, get behind or in front but keep enough distance to make it harder to get barrel bombed. Slip behind lower your sails get some shots off then lower your sails and reposition. It’s important to maintain distance and not sit still for too long. When engaging other sloops you can raise your sails slightly, turn your wheel half in one direction, this will put you in an auto turn rotation allowing you to get cannon shots off without worrying about steering. Keep in mind this sets you into a position to get barrel bombed so don’t hold this maneuver too long, and keep an eye out for players jumping ship to board or bomb.
Want to set an ambush? Leave your lights on and don’t paint your boat, approach a ship with sails in wrong position then pretend to flee, when they maneuver to approach you set your sails correctly, slip in behind and get to work, make them pay for assuming your an easy target.

If pursued in a sloop, keep an eye on your map to make sure you don't run out of sea and set a course. You're best bet is to go downwind or crosswind, even if pursued by a Galleon. What you want to do is have a gradual slow turn 5-10 degs and then go sit on the sail angle and keep your sail FULL with constant adjustments - you want to make your pursuer to also have to make constant adjustments. Only leave the helm to correct course - a good tactic is to slow turn the other direction occasionally, again 5-10 degs, then again sit on the sail angle and keep it FULL. This works because your pursuer has not only to keep an eye on you but make sure he matches your turns to keep his sail as full as yours - every time he fails to do that you put distance on him. Versus Galleons do the turns a bit more often and even try to engage tacking. Again, you know your plans, you can keep your sails full (sitting on the angle and only leaving to adjust course) your pursuer has to try and keep his sails full to match you but he doesn't know when and how often you're turning or tacking. That's your goal - keep your sails full while making your pursuer lose his by always changing the angle of the wind on the sails. Eventually you'll outrun them all. But again - don't forget to keep an eye on the map to know where the sea ends and plan your next direction that you're gonna use the wind with.

When I first started out from day one, it wasn't until I was rep 10 with all 3 companies, that I when to Sharktooth cove (i think that's what it is called), I met two galleons, they both ganged me. I out maneuvered both of them and took one down using the advantage of rocks and critically aimed cannons. I destroyed the other by boarding it and defeating all four players in a sword fight. I took control of their galleon and wrecked it into the island then blew it up with their own gunpowder barrel. The respawned of course, they tried to recover, but i hopped back on my sloop and began firing on their ship. They eventually sunk, it was an epic battle. My friend, never pass those up, there are only soooo many groups of fools who dont know west from east out there.

I know this video is outdated but I just came across it and I give you a big "Thank You" by subscribing and liking.
My perspective on Sloop vs. Galleon? I love the gunpowder barrel strategy. I also made this strategy up which is (kind of) genius but difficult to achieve:
Go into the Open Ocean, somewhere were Galleons can freely move. And depending on your luck, The Kraken will appear.
As you know, Galleons cannot move in inked water. Sloops can, but they struggle to. Therefore, you made your escape - And while The Kraken is sinking the ship you can get gunpowder barrels to blow up the hull and eventually take their loot secretly (which is optional) as well. Or, another option is to just flee while the Galleon's crew is sCREWed (purposely) by our Lord and Savior Sea Monster.

Do not store powder kegs in the hull becase someone can hit it with a cannon or if they board you they can blow it up. Store it in the crows nest instead that way they are less likely to hit it and even if they do it will do virtually no damage to you.

Wanting to point out when on a sloop facing a full gally, most of them are on the island, if one is guarding the gally, rams are key to sinking them. Recently me and my friends stole a skull fort from a gally using rams which made them all flood towards the ship leaving the vault and the mega keg safe. If you can kill that one person guarding the ship, camp the repairs 2 holes can sink a gally if you just camp the repairs.

Sometimes in a sloop during a fight If I have the other ships anchor dropped. I raise the sails all the way and turn the steering wheel all the way in one direction. The sloops spins and i am able to shoot my one cannon on each side multiple times and if the other boat raises the anchor I drop the sails and the chase is on if they survived that long.

  • @joshlance6926
    @joshlance6926 6 років тому +1

When u are at an island leave sail up and anchor raised. Much faster get away to just drop a sail vs raising the anchor by yourself and more time to repair the ambush. Saved me a dozen times already.

  • @crow_boi3387
    @crow_boi3387 6 років тому +1

when storing gunpowder kegs, DO NOT leave on ANY deck of the ship, even the very bottom one, as this is probably where thy will try to hit you l, and if that thing explodes, well, your screwed. so instead, keep these keg in the crow's nest, so not only will they not see it and shoot it, pick it up and use it against you, or just hit it by mistake. plus if you keep you treasure there, then chances are that enemies won't see it in time before you shoot them. one last thing, when you park your ship, raise your sails, this makes you harder to spot. and dropping them back down again is rather quick and easy, so why not?

I think a sound tactic is also just to stay alert. I know that sounds simplistic but, unless you have a good reason for it, the fight you avoid is the best fight of all. Keep your eye on the horizon. Check out your destination by telescope before you get there, just to make sure some bugger isn't hanging around to ruin your day.
Also, if you're being chased, try sailing into the wind. I've noticed a sloop goes quicker into the wind than a galleon. Maybe the smaller size means less drag or something? I don't know how, I'm not a scientist, it just works.

    • @ballinchicken8267

I know this is an old video but there are two big errors. Don't ever put tnt barrells anywhere other than the crows nest. Don't shoot tnt barrells when swimming under the enemy ship.... Just let them float up to the ship, as soon as they touch the ship they explode. If you have multiple crew members just sacrifice yourself to ensure the barrell explodes. Pretty good overall tips though.

QUESTION: Could one argue that the sloop is as tanky as a galleon? A galleon has two floors that must be sunk, and sloop has 1 and 1/2 floors that must be sunk (u could say one floor really). The water fills up at the same speed on a galleon as a sloop, yet the galleon as you say "Can take more wholes than the sloop," therefore the galleon has the potential to sink much faster than that of a sloop. I am curious what you think of this idea @JESSETATOO_GAMING

Ok so I have some load outs that can fit certain play styles and players.
1 cutlass and pistol, the standard load out, a cutlass if you need to reload your pistol or run out of ammo and the pistol for medium range damage,
2 cutlass and blunderbuss, a more aggressive play style, the blunderbuss serves for more heavy PvP/PvE combat, the cutlass is to make sure you have a backup if you miss. (Somehow with a blunderbuss)
3 sniper rifle/pistol and blunderbuss, a very risky load out which is mainly PvP exclusive, this has you board an enemy ship and one shot the first person who comes in your way, just remember if you miss both shots or if you didn't kill your target your as good as dead.
pistol and sniper rifle, the common (or my most used) skull fort winning combo, the sniper rifle to take out gunpowder skeletons and the pistol incase you missed or need a backup, as we all know the ammo crates on skull forts this is the most effective combination
    Hope this helps.

aaaw man!!! SUB! love the video... here is my tip ♥
1- as SOLO, if a galleon chase you, got to a storm, they cannot survive twice a storm since most of the time people on galleon never get supplies to repair the ship... and at the same time they cannot see you once you make quick shift around and they will lose the sight of you... if you go out to the storm and they still folowing you? turn back and repeat... and they will be crush over time... and you happilly sail away with your loot on a clear sky ♥
IMPORTANT!!! keep an eye on your map at least once and focus on maintain the direction straight! galleons they will totally miss direction and get lost on the storm...

Sailing against the wind when a Galleon chases you is very convenient, even if they do try to head you off by attempting to catch the wind. just board anchor keg and distract, aslong as your ship has a long enough time to sail without you, without crashing of course

I had cannons raised while playing last night but I was still attacked twice. Lol. But I am glad I watched this video. I was chased by a galleon and Jesse, you are very correct. A sloop cannot outrun a galleon. But I had enough distance to get to a larger group of rocks north of chicken island. I was dancing in and out of the narrow spaces as the galleon decided to go around. They grew tired of that, never had a shot and sailed away. I also had my first “quasi” victory yesterday. While on crooks hollow, a sloop sank my parked sloop. I swam to his ship and killed him stole a captains chest and hid it on the island. I wasn’t thinking, I should’ve ran his ship aground but he probably would’ve returned onto his ship before I could get the job done and get his loot. Still, it was my first victory at revenge and nice not getting always getting killed by the more experienced players. Haha. This is too much fun.

I do not recommend using two guns, especially when boarding. You will either die in CQC or run out of ammo before you can run down to the box.
Dont try to cut in front of a galleon, they will always sink you, or it they are running with the wind, will over take you in a heartbeat.
Try using your empty ship as a decoy so that you can swim aboard and cause mayhem by letting it sail out to sea.

never put them below deck, as soon as a cannon hits near that barrel it detonates causing unnecessary damage. put it in the crows nest, or very tip of the bow on a galleon (i believe on the galleon the bow is long enough for the barrel to not damage the ship upon detonation)
edit: i mean the explosive barrels

  • @TheMalkavianPrince

5:18 LAWL, anyone who flanks a galleon like that is going to have a bad time, hitting upper deck like that when you have a shot on their lower deck is practically useless until they're already full of holes, and tailing that close, you're liable to get turned in on, accurately fired on (knocking you off/outright killing you) and/or boarded from above, and anchored..
Best tactic I've found for dealing with an anchored Gal is to 1/4 - 1/3 sail, and tack back and forth in figure 8s/circles behind or, if you're feeling adventurous, in front of them, giving you enough speed to make it hard to be boarded, but not so much that you can't turn out of harms way before fully pulling into their broadside, and potentially allowing you to get a headstart on getting around them if they raise anchor/turn to broadside you.
Similar tactics can often work for dealing with a moving Gal, but more often than not you end up having to use your small/low profile to you advantage as much as your manoeuvrability, and just hope they are random matchmade players that are a worse shot than you and ignore repairs to try to board/shoot you, rather than a well practised premade group.
Finally, hiding powderkegs below deck is a good way to get insta sunk, ESPECIALLY if they get caught in the radius of one placed under you, or someone boards you and gets below deck - they ALWAYS go in the crowsnest, or on the sail spurs, where they can't damage your own ship, as climbing the mast takes long enough to take 4 pistol rounds to the back, which is way more than it takes to kill you, and once up there you either have to jump down to deck - almost half killing yourself, jump overboard with one and hope you can detonate it before being shot/they get out of range, or drop it over the edge and hope you can get a shot on it from there/get down to shoot it before someone picks you off.

Tactic: Once stopped IF your rudder is midship (centered) and all sails raised...... raise anchor and ship will stay in place. This helps with 0 degree turns and to be able to just drop sails and go. This is for non storm applications. Tactic: 0 degree turns with all sails up; also backing ship up when wheel is turned fully port or starboard left/right. Hope this helps someone!🤔😯🙃

Im trying to solo on my sloop, but damn is it tough, having to manage your speed/sail direction while being ready to adjust course at a moments notice, add another player or a storm/kraken/meg damaging you while you're trying to aim your cannons or make repairs and bail and it really becomes an absolute nightmare. I honestly feel like soloing is not a viable option in SoT atleast not unless you're a multi tasking god , and even then you better be okay with spending alot more time to make alot less gold than you would in a crew of 2 or more.

There are many islands that have trigger happy skeletons that will always shoot at you if you go near them, so keep in mind which islands have these and use them to your advantage. Also a good technique I often use when being chased is to look for other ships more often then not trolls will be trolls if you lead them to someone else they'll more than likely lose interest in you and go after them.

I don't really trust friendly players that much, I once spent 2 hours getting loot and as I was about to reach the outpost, the megalodon showed up and my teammate started shooting it, another ship showed up and said they'd help, we both anchored our ship, they killed us, and took a good 10k coins and 2 hours worth of treasure...

If you hide kegs in the crows nest it can’t do damage to your ship
